  1. I just took delivery of an Elegance Outdoor in Cappuccino ( I really wanted light blue but they don't make them in that colour anymore). It's not really a golden metallic colour, which I expected, it's more of a brownie greeny colour , in fact, if it hadn't been for the paperwork , I might have thought it was actually Jungle Green!! I picked the colour from the brochure, but overall , quite happy. Ordered the black interior too, just to be on the safe side. It doesn't look distinctive in the slightest, but it's probably a safe colour. At the end of the day , it's personal preference, good luck with your choice
  2. I've been building prospective Yeti's on the configurator , literally for months and at the weekend noticed that the Matterhorns can no longer be added. Did I read somewhere that the Monte Carlo spec had Matterhorns? Maybe they're all being kept for them.?
  3. Thanks for the replies, it sounds like it maybe was just the car I tested so I'll keep the Yeti on my list. Now I just need to test drive the Petrol Qashquai, Golf SV , Octavia Scout and the BMW Active Tourer , then hopefully I'll be able to make a final decision.
  4. Sorry, my technical knowledge is almost non existent , but Im wondering if it's possible that the removal of the standard boot floor and including a spare wheel/new smaller floor could possibly mean a reduction in soundproofing , which results in 'hearing' some whine/whirr? (Which I've assumed comes from the Turbo) If e.g. There are numerous 1.2 owners (with factory spare), who never hear any whirr/whine noise , then it was maybe just the one car I drove, or maybe it's me! I thought the turbo was located somewhere near the exhaust? Of course it may not have been a noise caused by the turbo, but an annoying noise/whirr there definitely was , when I accelerated I don't want to order a new car costing over £20K to find that it's noisy when I accelerate, so am trying to get the views of actual owners, so I can decide whether to take the risk whether to buy one or not
  5. I test drove a 1.2 Elegance with spare wheel(not sure if it was factory fitted or not) at a local dealer, really liked the car, BUT, every time I accelerated I could hear what I thought was a noise from the Turbo, a kind of whirring noise and it drove me nuts. I assume it was a noise coming from the the Turbo and wondered if the 'noise' was heard because of some lack of soundproofing which was as a result of the fitting of a spare wheel? So, for any 1.2 DSG owners out there with a factory fitted spare, the question I have is : do you hear any such Turbo noise, when you accelerate? I currently have a Fabia 1.2 SE 69bhp and absolutely love it. It's a bit small and loses power quickly going uphill but it's a great wee car and I never hear any unexpected noises when I accelerate(I know, it doesn't have a Turbo). I previously had a Grand CMax Poweshift with spare wheel and sold that after 5 months as it had a really noisy Turbo whine as soon as I accelerated at 1500rpm. So I'm seriously interested in buying a Yeti but I'm worried that the car will come with this turbo 'whine/whirr' and it'll drive me nuts (again!) Of course it might just be me, but I've driven a Forester, Qashquai, Verso, CRV, CX5 , Rav4 and have never heard any Turbo whirr from them. I've also driven my sons Fabia 1.2TSI 86PS with spare, no sound of Turbo whirr. Anyhoo, I would really appreciate feedback from 1.2 Yeti Owners, thanks in advance, cheers.
  6. YA BEAUTY !! My 140bhp DSG Elegance in Muscovado with onyx interior, Annapurna Alloys, Sat Nav, upgraded stereo, rough road pack, park assist , tyre pressure monitor, heated windscreen, spare wheel, floor mats, IS HERE !! Of course, typically, I'm just in the middle of a really busy work period and I'm working the next 6 weekends, so I dont really have much time to do any driving at the mo, DOH! Since I normally get the bus to work, my lovely Yeti has done no more than be reversed into my driveway!! However, I'm off today and its off to the shops. My normal shop is about half a mile away, but I'm going to drive 5 miles to another shop, just to have a drive in the Yeti ! Tomorrow I'm going to drive to work and then hopefully drive a wee bit to pick up my daughter, so I might get a few more miles in. First impressions are good. The colour looks great, its not as dark as I thought it was going to be. The doors sound "just like a VW" when you close them and the stereo sounded great when I switched it on for two seconds. I'll report back in a wee while, when I've done a bit of driving and I'll add some pictures. I just wish I wasnt so busy and so tired, I cant really enjoy it as much as I wanted. Bad planning on my part. Incidentally, I managed to find one dealer out of three local ones who has agreed to give me a wee bit discount off the price of 4 steel wheels for my winter tyres, so he'll be getting my service business, despite the fact he's outside Edinburgh where I work. The ignorance of the parts departments regarding these wheels was staggering. They really werent clued up at al land seemed totally confused as to what the difference was between the two sets of 16" Steel wheels for the yeti. Big thanks to 'The Plumber' and James from Allams for their help with this. When I phoned one of the dealers , he couldnt find the wheels and I told him I was looking for 7Jx16 ET45's he asked "where did you get that info from", I answered "from the Skoda Forum" , I was met with a resounding "ermmmmm" and then " we havent sold any of these , dont know anything about winter tyres". I couldnt help thinking "its about time you blinking well did" Anyway, enough grumping for the moment, I'm just about to set off to the shops,(what an exciting life I lead!!)
  7. Big thank you to 'The Plumber' for his advice. I'm currently awaiting delivery of my new SM and decided to follow the plumber's example and order the same Nokian tyres as he's got! I know its not very original, but they're made for Arctic conditions and should be OK over here. I'm waiting for two local delaers to give me a quote on 4 16" Skoda Steel wheels and I'll get my local non franchised dealer to fit them since they've always looked after me OK Keep up the good work 'Plumber', most appreciated
  8. Contacted Skoda Customer Services to ascertain whether there was ANY chance at all of changing my order "Oh sorry sir, once your order is in , you cant change it" I explained to him about this forum , about the 4 week 'rule' and how some lucky beggars had been able to change their orders, the reply was : "Well, thats what we've been told..." Expectation levels met I'm afraid................
  9. No idea, was just told by the dealer (last week), that it was now being built 'next week', (which is now this week). Didnt really think to ask about week numbers. I was originally told my car was showing as a build week 41, then, after asking about options, I'm told the car is being built 4 weeks early, which may be true, its just really frustrating as I really wanted the folding mirrors....
  10. Guys Quick update, James just replied to me, so thanks very much to him for taking the time out to speak to one of us who isnt even his customer. What a great ambassador for the Brand. Unfortunately, IF they're building my car this week, then I'm doomed to live without theelectric folding mirrors, which is something I really did want , but dropped off my 'must have' list in order to buy the Yeti. Its not the end of the world but is seems a tad unlucky to suddenly have the build date brought forward when I asked if changes could be made......I would have been much happier if my build date had been put back in order to make the changes, but that doesnt appear to be an alternative.
  11. Not sure what's going on with dates these days, I asked my dealer last week if it was possible to add any extras to my order (originally week 41), and was told no, as it was now being built next(which is this)week. I'm mildly hacked off as it seems that some people have been able to change their orders and some havent. I even dropped the ever helpful James from Allams Skoda, a note, to see if he could shed any light or give advice, but he didnt reply. I'm not complaining, he's not my dealer, there's nothing in it for him, he just struck me as a really helpful guy and was just trying every avenue to see if I could get the electric seats and mirrors added. Oh well, every cloud has a silver lining, if it gets built this week, I should be picking it up Mid October, which is good.
  12. Just had a call from the Dealer, my SM is being built next week, then three weeks to the dealer, one to get ready, so hopefully I'll be able to take delivery Mid October, WOOHOO ! BTW apologies to leckman for not answering the question about why I couldnt deal with the local dealers: I valued my own part -ex using 'we buy any car' which is a really low trade price. Subtract that from the DtD discounted price and thats what I would have done Business at. Dealer one was about £2700 adrift really didnt discount much at all, Dealer 2 would discount it more and I even offered them £400 above that as a price I'd be willing to pay for local service, but I think the dealers in this area are selling all the Yeti's they can lay their hands on and appear to be hitting their sales targets ergo they dont feel they need to discount much. I would prefer to deal with a local dealer but not at any cost
  13. Apologies for the last blank post, all this Technology gives me a sore head. Overall, the thing which disappointed me from the What Car Reader review was that SP2 listed two reviews with 2 stars. I think one would have done. The Second review sounds like it was on a loan car he was given whilst the original was off the road. SP2 has decided he doesnt like the car, which is fair enough, but twice? I spent a lot of time looking through the Readers Review, both on What Car and Parkers as I dont think Motoring Journalists can always be objective. How much have we read in the press about how wonderful VW cars are, yet I had a Passat which was the worst car pound for pound I ever owned. My current car is a Ford Focus CMax, which had been a really reliable car and I'm hoping that my new SM will be the same, yet Ford have a relatively image than VW. If Skoda did produce 1 dud, then they need to take it on the chin, admit they got it wrong and then get back to doing what the seem to be very good at: building really good reliable cars. I would encourage all car owners to log their opinions, both on What Car and Parkers websites, I truly believe this is really useful information, both good and bad, for prospective buyers. I hope SP2 is happy with the new Scooby, will we see two reviews of that? Lets try and help our fellow car drivers and not take out our frustrations
  14. Sounds Brilliant, I hope dealers in Scotland are taking note, thats how you keep your customers and develop Brand Loyalty, well done to Allams
  15. First time post guys, so be gentle with me....(this is going to be a long post BTW) After a LOT and I mean a LOT of visiting garages, I recently ordered a Yeti 140 DSG Elegance in Muscovado, with Columbus , Park Assist, 12 spkr hi fi, heated windscreen, rough road pack, TPM, Annapurna Alloys, spare wheel, floor mats. I currently drive a Ford Focus CMax 1,6TDi LX and its been a great car. Had it since new, for five years, never had any problems, great engine, bit rubbish at cornering (dont know technical term), wee bit plain inside and the aircon's rubbish. Absolutely no complaints, would thoroughly recommend. However, after a recent hospital visit, I decided I'd treat myself to a 'quality car'. I decided I'd like to try a 'proper ' car, not an MPV as I wanted something that was really comfy, drove well and wasnt an MPV I decided to start reading What Car and Honest John's and Parkers and Auto Express and Autocar, trying to get a feel for the best cars, based on the reviews , both from the professionals and the readers. I had always dreamt about owning a cabriolet, so I headed off down to the BMW dealers(according to all the reviews, defo the best). Couldnt get a demo and the salesmen looked at me with my 5yo Cmax as if I was invisible. Managed to get a demo in an automatic Coupe and I loved it. Only problem was it was black and I had to limbo dance in and out of it (I have a longstanding back problem). Fair play to the BMW dealer, they gave me loads of test drives, a 320D Saloon, a 320D Coupe, a 318 Saloon, a 530D saloon and an X1. I liked the 318 Petrol, but they didnt really try & sell it to me and I thought the X1 was really rough, didnt like it at all' I thought I would try a Mercedes soft top, so I asked for a demo via their website: No reply. Called the number on the website, they apologised and said someone would defo be in touch: They never did! Drove the Volvo XC60 Manual and Auto, really liked it, IMHO , a quality car, but I just didnt feel I could justify spending 30K on it and also the fuel consumption and emissions werent great either. Made an appointment to demo a Toyota Avensis, two visits to the dealership and despite actually making an appointment the car wasnt there, so told them to stuff it. The biggest fiasco was probably with VW. Called into one of their dealerships in town and the conversation went like this: ME: Do you have an Golf Plus Auto I can test drive? Salesman: Nope MW: Do you have any coming in? SM: Nope ME: How do you sell them then? SM: People just come in and buy them ME: What, without a demo? SM: Yup, do you want a brochure? ME(escaping): err no thanks So I thought I'd go on to the VW website, looked for a GolfPlus demo and according to them the other branch in town actually had one available. I called them, they told me someone in the Office had one, so I made an appointment with the salesman for a Thursday afternoon at 3pm to pop in and drive a Golf Plus and a normal Golf(still hankering after a 'normal car'). On the morning of Thursday, I had to call to tell the salesmen I would be a bit late, only to find out it was his day off and he wasnt in !!!! I drove a Citroen C4 Picasso, brilliant 2.0 Diesel Engine, but the EGS box was very jerky. I tried to arrange a demo in a C5 Diesel 160PS saloon as I'd spotted a few pre-reg ones online for about £15K but the best the local dealer could manage was a demo in a second hand 140PS(despite the fact I'd made the appointment in advance), so I declined. "The Sales Manager has taken our Demo away for the weekend" DOH! I drove the Ford Mondeo, really liked that, just a bit underpowered I thought and Ford dont have a reputation for Auto boxes( I was flexible about manual/auto but the 320 BMW made me hanker after an auto). Drove the Kuga, really liked that, but it felt the same as my CMax and I wanted something different. Went to the Audi garage to test drive an auto A4 saloon, but it was the service department loan car and wasnt in. I left my details, still waiting.... I test drove the Diesel Nissan Qaschki, but it was a second hand one and the engine was rougher than my Cmax. Pat on the back though to my local Nissan Garage, they were the only garage to hose down my car whilst I was away driving theirs. They also followed me up with no pressure, would certainly think about buying from them in future. At the beginning of my quest I had driven a 170PS DSG Superb at the Skoda dealer and was very impressed with it. I thought I could hear a fan or something kicking in on the Automatic box but as usual the salesman said "No I dont hear anything" Might have been an idea to get his Service Manager to listen to it? Having said that, they were very good about demos. I got to drive a Superb and an Octavia and the Superb was near the top of my list as every review seemed to give it 5*. I dont really need the room in the back though and my back was playing up again, so I asked for a demo in an Octavia Scout Estate as I thought it would have a higher ground clearance and would be easier to get in and out of , although I didnt really need an estate . The Scout was good, enjoyed driving it, wasnt that easy to get in and out and as I was leaving the garage a spotted a Yeti and thought "oh sod it, I might as well give it a go, I've driven just about everything else in the Skoda range, but I was thinking "I dont really want an MPV"" Well, Hally Blinking Looyah, at last an MPV type car that doesnt drive like an MPV, yeehaww. It drove just like a 'normal car' and was great for getting in and out of. At last I'd found a car I WANTED to buy.(although I probably would have preferred the 170PS) I checked all the reviews, including this forum and decided to take the plunge. Disappointingly , I couldnt do business with the local dealers(I did give them a chance) and I ended up ordering one via DtD and I am now the proud expectant owner of a Snow Monster (week 41 build, join the club) As regards colour, I always thought I'd buy a sky blue car if I had the choice but I saw the Muscovado with black interior in a showroom and just thought it looked terrific. So I logged on to the Internet and did the deed. I added in virtually every extra I could (its a once in a lifetime purchase), except the 3 spoke steering wheel. I read this forum and I cant see the point of paying £155 for one less spoke, dont really understand that. Overall, it was a fairly tough exercise, not really enjoyable. Thanks to all those dealers who could and did arrange test drives for me, it was most appreciated. To Mercedes, Audi, VW , Citroen and Toyota, you really have an opportunity to improve........ Apologies to my local Skoda Dealers, in fairness, I did give you the opportunity to do business, I will do the same again, when it comes to servicing. Now fingers crossed only about 10-11 weeks till I pick it up hopfully
