  1. Hello, My 2006 Octavia 2.0tfsi has unfortunatly presented me with an Engine Warning Light over the last few weeks that im struggling to get to the bottom of. When the light first appeared I took it straight to my local VAG specialist. They put it through the diagnostics and asked me what kind of fuel I was using in my car, with my daily travels I normally fill up with standard Shell Unleaded. Once brought up I was told that this type of engine could not run on standard unleaded and this was triggering a "Fuel Mixture" issue. I was a little dissapointed at this diagnosis as after doing research when I bought this car I was under the impression that increasing the RON would only increase performance and after 2 years of running on standard unleaded this engine light never appeared. So I thought I would go down the Super Unleaded fuel route and I put a couple of tanks worth in the Octavia, unfortnatly the engine light came back on so quick I never had the chance to give it a proper run with Super as the residual fuel would still be in the system. Luckly a friend has a scanner and was able to reset my engine light and even with Super Unleaded the light was appearing! So using this scanner I did some digging into what the actual fault code was that was causing this Engine Light to appear. The DTC is P0171 & P0171P. It appears from all of the OBD websites including Ross Tech that this means Bank 1 system is Too Lean. My first port of call was to clean the MAF sensor as it was a 5 minute job however this did not work. After doing a little more digging it seems this could be caused by a faulty PCV. So I went to check if the PCV valve had failed (According to a few sites this is a common component to fail), and when I took the component off it seems that the Non Return valve leading to the Intake Manifold had failed open (See Photo Below): The photo will hopefully show the non return valve slipped out of place. The photo below shows the N revision valve which is completly redesigned from the original in my octavia: I was quite concerned when I observed the amount of oil in the connecting pipe between the PCV and Intake Manifold! This may explain my Octavias level of oil consumption, its not massive but seing that oil in the pipe doesnt make me feel great. So this was a quick and cheap fix that when fitted I noticed an instant change neautralising a rough idle that I had noticed, the revs stayed level it was just vibrations and knocking felt in the cabin. My hopes where really up after this fix as logic would suggest that if this valve had failed open then this would allow gas from the crankcase to enter the intake manifold when the car is under idle. I should point out at this stage after 5 resets of the light i can confirm this engine light ONLY occurs when the car is under idle. Hundres of motorway miles with the turbo spooling does not set it off but as soon as I idle it comes on! My thoughts are that if the vehicle is on Turbo Boost then pressurised air entering the intake manifold will be allowed straight through the failed PCV and into the crankcase! So after the PCV fix a journey to work in the morning put the light straight back on, it came back on when reversing the car into a space at low revs. This is quite a few events to put down and hopefully it makes sense reading all this, does anyone know of the Engine Lean fault and any other components that could have failed? All I can think at this stage is that some sort of air intake pipe leading to the engine has a hole allowing air to enter from atmosphere. I should also point out that no drop in performance can be felt and my MPG is still up at about 38mpg so I cant say the car is running poor, just an engine light that keeps appearing! I was also going to remove a sparkplug as if the car is really running lean then the plugs "should" be white.
  2. Hello, Over the last couple of months I have been trying to solve 2 areas of wind noise on my 2006 Octavia Vrs. First of all a big thanks to AdamR who put together a few pictures regarding his rear interior window seal and the application of silicone sealant - Wind Noise. Now that the rear noise has been fixed I am still pondering how to fix the wind noise that I have located down to the drivers door. Now my first action when I heard both wind noises was to purchase 2 sets of door seals (One for driver and the other for the rear left door), this did not solve any of the noise. I was just wondering if anyone else with the Octavia has experienced wind noise from the drivers door and know of any exact locations that may be the culprit. I am a little hesitant at the moment to start applying the silicone as I am still unsure where the noise is coming from. At a very rough location i would say its close to the area where the Window Blower is situated. Cheers David
  3. Just brainstorming a little, but would a heatshield be the case if it only happens at low rpm's and before the turbo was to kick in. If so what would cause the rattle to cease at that point?
  4. I have noticed this when locking my car! Im having a problem with the alarm at the moment that causes the alarm to activate approx 3-4 seconds after i lock the car, if the alarm does sound i quickly unlock and then lock again (it has never went off again after this). I wonder if a faulty/broken interior sensor is causing this..... With a little trial and error though the alarm only seems to activate if I - Open the car (Pressing the Key Fob only ONCE), drive around etc and then lock it, that seems to be the case every time. If i open the car using 2 clicks on the key fob, drive around and then lock it the alarm DOESNT seem to go off! My car is under warrenty from a non Skoda garage so im going to ask them to look at it, however i wonder if it is a better option taking it over to Skoda or buying myself a VAG COM system.
  5. Hello, I'm starting to get the feeling I am doing something wrong as it was only yesterday I found out that the reason that only the driver door opened was due to the fact I had to push the unlock button twice on the key fob! I feel spoiled with my new vRS, there are just so many features that I'm getting used too! My current problem is rather annoying, when I lock my car it seems around 8/10 times the alarm always goes off (this usually happens about 5 seconds after locking)! The simple fix seems to be straight away unlocking the car and then locking again and it doesn't go off again. The car is still under warranty from the garage I purchased it from so I will make sure to notify them of this problem. I am just wondering if this happens to anyone else or if I am missing something really silly (quite possibly). What puzzles me is that it doesnt just go off randomly, its seems to be after i lock it. Im not sure what could cause such a thing.
  6. Hi Greek, Thanks for that link. I will look into this one later tonight. Im starting to get more concerned regarding the hissing noise, i think the problem is i am thinking about it too much! Can anyone with an Octavia Vrs (2006 onwards) comment on the hissing noise? I still have a lot of fault finding around the car to do but i would just like a general idea of what could cause a hiss is suspension (it might be normal for this type of suspension).
  7. I picked up my 2006 Octavia Vrs last week and I am over the moon with it! Granted I have not even had more than an hours driving time in it due to being away this weekend, however during the drive home from a dealer and taking it on some of the more country roads in my area I can hear some faint noises that I was hoping some of the Skoda Veterans here could shed some light on. The first sound coming from the rear when the suspension is being worked is a light knocking noise, almost like to light objects just coming into contact. The second noise is more of a hiss when the suspension is worked, both of these noises are not severe noises and the car feels OK. I'm just a bit worried about them and what they could be caused by, especially only picking up the car at the end of last week! Any Ideas?
  8. Hello Everyone at Briskoda! I am a bit late for the intro stage, when I signed up I went straight to the Octavia II section to post for some very much needed buying advice. The help given to me was fantastic and I couldnt have asked for any better! If all goes well I should be picking up my Race Blue 2006 Octavia Vrs this Friday!
  9. Thank You Griffo! That was the exact answer i was trying to find trawling all over the net! That has given me a lot more confidence in this car now! Cheers to everyone for all your valued help, i have never had such welcoming comments at such a high rate in any forum before. I shall update with anything that happens over the weekend.
  10. Ah i see, for the life of me without looking i could not fathom out what on earth a Jumbo Box was! We will see how it goes over the next few days, my main worry about the 2006 Mk2 Vrs was down to a Rear Suspension problem that i read on some forum i cannot remember, but it seems this is not the case from what i have gathered in previous posts.
  11. From what you have posted it would suggest the price of this car needs knocked down by about £500. As for optional extras i wish i had payed more attention to this in the garage and test drive. I do know it has the Xenon Headlights, Front/Rear Parking Sensors and i think something called a Jumbo Box. My mileage wont be anything more than 8000 a year
  12. It does have a full service History, cambelt was recently done at the garage it is being sold at. It is not a main Skoda Dealer and is in the Cumbria area. Its a Petrol
  13. Its priced at £9,400, around 32k miles on the clock. Im not sure about the Alloy size, electric windows etc. The wheel Refurb was going to be included along with the bumper respray. Does this year of car suffer from rear suspension issues?
  14. They ended up offering a full bumper respray due to one portion of the bumper being a very dark blue where as the left "good" side was the nice metallic Blue! Where it has been resprayed by someone previously you cannot see any sort of scuffing/scratches! Its just a colour change.
