  1. Tyres are 205 45 16, make depends on if you want decent road tyres (I like hankook v12's which are well priced and handle track work ok) or semi-slicks?
  2. Yes the standard wheels are 16", and the 312mm brakes fit under just fine without spacers like you say donor cars are a mk1 tt or an octy vrs, and you just need discs, pads and calipers. Standard lines should be long enough. The for sale section on here is good and sets sometimes crop up
  3. I use the same method as mr rooney, eye bolts into rear seatbelt mounts and the mounts on the seat subframe. Use proper high tensile bolts like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seat-belt-harness-eye-bolt-metric-M10-x-1-5mm-thread-/260680326084?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cb1c21bc4 You can get proper harness bars kinda like this As you can see the harness mounts differently and isnt an eye-bolt mount harness. Im just concerned that drilling holes and bolting into a rear strut brace will reduce the structural integrity of the metal bar?? I mean if you crash, all the force will be transferred through the harness into the bar? That rear strut does look good though, as a strut brace. Just a thought
  4. My old Ibiza was OK on track - it was hybrid power and the torque and straight line speed was great fun. The thing that let it down was the corners though, and it was pretty well set up (KW coilovers, Jabba RARB, good tyres etc). It could have done with a diff, but they're a lot of money. It was great on the road mind, for a back road blast it was perfect, but on track use it just got a bit out of its depth IMO. The most frustrating thing was the lack of camber adjustment on the suspension. Things may have changed now or newer/better coilovers brought out as I've been out of the VAG scene for over a year.
  5. Are threads like this just started to bump post count/clog up space/bore people? Oh wait that can be answered with a yes...
  6. One thing I discovered when buying this pipe as I made the mistake - the pipe is different between BLT & ASZ engine codes, so make sure you get the one that matched your engine!
  7. Agree with what Brimma said about there not being much run-off in areas, but it is a fantastic track. Maybe not ideal for a first timer, but I would highly recommend doing a Javelin day as they marshal their days very well. My first day was with Focused Events at Donington and scared me sh*tless :( Cadwell is brilliant fun, but wont be back until next year - would I still be allowed to join you guys even though I drive a Honda...?
  8. You cant smell carbon monoxide... But check the exhaust for holes?
  9. DMF is dual mass flywheel, and is used to reduce clutch chatter and vibration, but are prone to breaking even at standard power. SMF is single mass flywheel, which is much stronger, however on these engines gives the chatter that can be heard when in neutral with the clutch up. If you go with a Helix or Sachs, or I had Southbend that Darkside Developments sell, these are an 'organic' clutch which keep the daily driveability of the car. Its when you go with paddle clutches that the driveability goes out the window, but they're overkill for hybrid power. DMF's can be used at hybrid power, and many people do, but you cant nail it low down the revs like you can with an uprated SMF clutch. Clutches aren't cheap though. If you think about it, what's the point in spending all that money on power to not be able to properly use it...
  10. I think they're brilliant! And having jacked-up suspension like that will have its uses, like for example, running over stanced cars Hur hur hur
  11. I've been with Sky the last few years - always been cheapest. You can find them on here and get a club forum discount too I think. Also a VRS will be much cheaper to insure than your 20VT
  12. How much did it cost to do your car? Also possibly a stupid question but how did you apply it if you bought tins?
  13. Glad you've said that - I've just got some new wheels for my car and although they're nice wheels, they're black and when I originally thought they would look good, they actually don't. Couldn't put my finger on the problem but now you mention it, its definitely the colour, especially since they're on a black car. And like you say it makes the wheels look grey or brown.
  14. Yep - put some rubber tubing between the coils and it'll stop the noise
  15. /\/\ Exactly this. More and more people are running side exit exhausts now. Also as said the mapping makes a difference - I had a very smokey map and got black flagged from Donington because they thought I was broken
  16. Some trackday organisers are strict on tow eyes, some are not. The more strict ones say if they cant find one then they'll just hook onto whatever they can find and drag the car off! My Forge pipework meant I couldnt put the standard tow eye in. So I bought a spare from someone breaking a car (£6) and chopped the actual eye off and left the threads plus about 40mm of the 'bar'. I then drilled a hole and in the end and bolted a TRS tow strap to that a la post 43 on here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/197175-front-towing-eye/page-2 I took the TRS strap off after trackdays and kept it in the car as I didnt like the look
  17. Love how he's hitting virtually every apex opposite lock
  18. What about them rods that are used in dome tents?
  19. I find a big chunk of melon before the gym is good
  20. Agree with all the above comments really! (except I don't wear a backwards cap lol) I went from a hybrid turbo TDI to a Type R and haven't looked back. Speed difference isn't huge, handling is worlds apart, the civic itself is a bigger and more practical car (huge boot) unless 3 doors bothers you, and the noise.... Only thing like you say is expensive tax and insurance can be a lot. How many miles a year do you do? If tootling around town, you'll notice no difference at all in fuel costs. On a long run then yes its more thirsty, but I can get 38mpg out of mine on a long run sitting at 70. Throw some good bushes and thicker rear ARB on, and £150 for springs (budget coilovers on a civic are £650+) and get a geo set up and its fun fun fun! 240bhp is easily achievable on these cars too, without compromising reliability, and all for about half the price of a decent hybrid turbo set up. Then you can go nuts like DeadMau5 and supercharge it! Just check the service history is good and do a good HPI as these cars can have a hard life. If you're interested mate PM me and I'll tell you what to look for, Josh did that now look what he drives... lol
  21. Lol get a house dude, I'm in exactly the same position as you (except I'm getting married in a week - yikes!) once the deposit is paid and you're in and settled with the monthly payments you'll have money for the toys again at least that's what I'm hoping lol
