  1. Gearbox is now in the car and has been used for a couple of weeks so far. As described, no crunching or grinding. Has been faultless in the time it has been on my car. Pleasure to buy from, thoroughly decent chap.
  2. Yes I will be collecting it. When are you available for collection? I can head up today if you are available.
  3. What difference has the quaife diff made?
  4. What kind of condition is the gearbox in? I am currently looking for a replacement gearbox after mine decided to fail the other day.
  5. Just wondering if there are any common reasons for the gearbox on a vRS to fail. I was driving my car last night when it felt like I had hit a pot hole on the front left side of the car (smooth road with no pot holes) and then the car carried on ok. When I got home I could hear a metallic tapping noise, but was unable to determine where it was coming from. Got the car looked at today and the underside of the car was covered in gearbox oil :( The gearbox has now been removed and there is a hole in the bell housing, Hopefully the user in here I messaged about the car they are breaking still has the gearbox availabel so I can be back on the road soon,
  6. PM'd If the gearbox is still available I will take it, as mine has decided to kill itself.
  7. I have had this a few times. If you press the brake pedal then release it and try again you will find the brakes bite like normal. I have had it only when rain is fairly heavy and haven't used the brakes for a while or after going through standing water. It is water on the discs, not a great deal you can do about it apart from dabbing the brakes after going through standing water or every now and then when driving in heavy rain. At least you are aware of it and can now do something about it to minimise the effects.
  8. I have the car back now Initial impressions are that the ride quality is much improved over what it was as is body control. Suspension is no longer crashy Turn in is better than it was, less steering lock needed, but not aggressive (might try other setting on front arb at some point). It feels very much like having a new car with good quality susension on it. The clutch is feeling lighter and more positive, the lighter flywheel has made the revs pick up and drop off quicker which is good, not like a motorbike, but quicker than before. I am hapy with the effect of the changes as the car now feels much better than at any time I have had it and made it much more enjoyable to drive. Which is what I am going to go and do now
  9. The car has gone in today to have the new bits fitted along with a few other bits (which will be standard items). Should get her back tomorrow and will then see how different she feels.
  10. Shocks were £555 http://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/bilstein-b8-sprint-damper-shock-absorber-kitbr-octavia-1u-rs-18t-0501-p-8483.html Springs were £171.50 http://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/hr-20mm-lowering-suspension-springsbr-octavia-1u-rs-18t-0102-p-664.html I got both from DPM Performance, very helpful on the phone and delivery was quick as well
  11. The one in guildford wasn't too keen as I don't have an account.
  12. The clutch kit turned up today so I shall be phoning the garage on monday to arrange fitting Very happy with the advice I got from Damien at DPM Performance and the speed at which the parts got delievered (even with a 4 day bank holiday weekend), also impressed witht the delivery time from awesome gti, they had run out of stock (in the morning) the day I ordered my kit (in the aftenoon d'oh), thank you customs for not delaying that delivery to awesome gti. Feeling excited now, can't wait to see what difference the new parts make.
  13. The dampers, springs and anti roll bars turned up today Just waiting for the clutch kit now (waiting on arrival in the uk before being shipped to me). Will be arranging fitting when the clutch arrives. Yes I am going for standard engine mounts. I do some long drives and want to keep it comfortable for those occasions. Not sure on price of the engine mounts, am getting the garage to supply a few bits for the job so will find out when I speak to them to arrange a time for fitting. I will post up my thoughts on the springs/dampers, arbs and clutch kit etc when they have been fitted and also when they have had some use and bedded in.
  14. I hope so, looking forward to not having the suspension bouncing like an american car. I was thinking about changing the car as it is a fair bit to spend getting this lot done, but there was nothing I wanted that was available for the money I wanted to spend so the octy is getting new bits to refresh it instead.
  15. Spoke to Damien on thursday (after my insurance company finally got back to me about modifying the car), very helpful about what the different dampers/springs would be like on the car and how they would work together with the Eibach arb kit. The decision has been made and the order placed. Bilstein B8 dampers, H&R 20mm springs and Eibach front & rear arb kit ordered. When these arrive (along with the ECS stage 1 clutch kit I ordered from awesome gti) the car will be getting booked in for them to be fitted along with new engine and gearbox mounts, top mounts for the suspension and some new bushes/lower wishbone arms for the suspension. Hopefully it will make the car feel considerably better than it currently does. Looking forward to getting the new bits on the car and driving it.
