  1. Hope someone can advise. Just got the other half's new Spaceback home. Took the risk of buying from Arnold Clarke, 1 mile on the clock, good experience so far. Downside, no mats and not prepared to pay Arnold more money to get some non-skoda mats. There are mats out there but most just say for the Rapid not specific to the Spaceback so what I would like to know is, would just "Rapid" mats fit in the Spaceback? Thanks Steve Back in Skoda family despite ditching the Superb.
  2. Well the Drone/Resonance has eventually gone. How you may ask, I got rid of the car couldn't take it anymore, so my Skoda has cost me a fortune in depreciation, when I first saw the car I though it was a keeper, someone elses problem now. Sorry Skoda but the Superb may just be the last skoda I ever own, good all round car but the drone just drove me mad, surprised it took me so long.
  3. Gotta love the boot on the hatch. I would buy one tomorrow if everything aligned properly. The rear of my 59 model is UGLY. Not so keen on the front. The Superb was an amazing looking car from the front, almost aeroplane like but now I think it looks a lot cheaper and more blunt (just my untrained eye). But oh for that boot lid.
  4. My Superb CR170 Elegance has now done 67000 miles (2.5 years). GPS unit failed after 20 000 miles. Electric passenger seat has a mind of it's own, wife always saying "who have you had in this seat?". Drivers seat looks pretty worn and no my rear end is not that large. The car does mostly motorway driving and I find the seats reasonably comfortable, not as comfortable as my old Volvo S80 but quite adequate, more sporty than comfort. One fused replaced. 2 Sets of Tyres. Pressure warning once came on despite pressures being fine. Fuel consumption averages out at around 45mpg, best is 50mpg. Skoda badges both very shabby now. No Rust. Sound system is decidely average. Servicing costs have been reasonable but watch out dealer quality varies substantially, the skoda dealer in Northampton being the best so far.
  5. I get this from 2000rpm to 2600 rpm so a real problem at 70 to 80, if I had the cash I would have let the car go, for now it's loud music. I am actually embarrased when I have a front seat passenger and hope they do not notice it. 56000miles now (in 2 years) CR170, I had hoped it would go over time.
  6. Infoschumi Posted >Posted 17 December 2011 - 02:13 >I can't remember the service update notice numbers, but when I went for the oil change they told me about three of them. >1-some pieces from the common-rail injection system were producing a resonance,so the engine was noisy. They did it to my car and now it's very very quiet. Do you have anymore details on what was done. I have a noisy engine (drone) and despite many attempts and some dealers saying they can't hear anything, it remains the same. This sounds like a possible solution that I could discuss with the dealer. Thanks
  7. Thanks fo that response. So I'm not insane or just hearing things. I have noticed more lately how the noise is around at lower speeds. It all starts at 2000rpm. I have checked every piece of plastic, bolts, metal bits etc to track down loose items but there is nothing. I would love to get hold of a quiet 170 manual and take it to the dealer to compare the two. As for the tyre wear. The car does spin up quite easy so I expect that has had something to do with it. Although I am no boy-racer.
  8. Do you drive the DSG? The dealer took me for a spin in a DSG to compare, it seems the DSG has a slight noise that kicks in way further up the Speedo. The DSG was very different noise wise. I thought it was just me being paranoid with the noise but the two people at the dealer who have driven the car agree with me, whew. There are a couple of others on briskoda who have had the noise but not seen any posts recently. If you only drive the car under 70, you would never know about the noise. I would love to take a spin in a cr170 manual and see what it was like, if quiet, then take it to the dealer and say, "set it up the same". Need to get to a meet somewhere.
  9. Thanks for the advice on the tyres. I have an engine "drone"/noise at 2000rpm to around 2600rpm. It is most noticeable on the motorway at anything over 69mph (satnav speed) worst at around 74/5. The dealer has tried to sort it out but to no avail, the car is quiet at just under 70 but totally different just over and up to about 80mph. Dealer seems to think it is the DPF that kicks in at 2000rpm. It bugs me quite a lot as most of my travel is motorway, I'll try and get them to have a look again at 20k service, they have had 3 attempts so far, I'll give it till then, after that if it is not sorted my first Skoda experience may be my last.
  10. Well, Superb II CR170 (combi), 10500 miles and already looking for new tyres. I have done mostly motorway driving but do tend to "use" the power when on country lanes and around our windy/windy area. I was wondering what the thoughts are on changing the profile of the tyres. I will be doing even more (if that's possible) motorway driving in the coming months so am not too hung up on handling. Wouldn't a bigger profile reduce road noise and possibly improve mileage, also probably mess up the speedo calibration somewhat unless that is gearbox driven. I am not sure that reducing the tyre noise is a good thing mind, as the engine drone problem will be even more obvious and may well drive me insane. Any comments/advice welcome.
  11. Fixed - A bad earth or something on the Aerial. Replaced under warranty. Whew
  12. Not had this on mine, just a drone between 2000 and 2800 rpm that is getting worse the older the car gets. Didn't realise the ESP did that, I will give it a go tomorrow, maybe that noise is better than the drone.
  13. I will give that a go (too cold to go outside right now), I assume if it doesn't find many satellites it could be an aerial issue.
  14. Thanks for that, I have been getting a good signal, in fact it is normally far better than my not so old TomTom even down to the correct direction on a road that the TomTom really battles with. Back to the dealer we go then (again)
  15. Hi. Wondering if anyone has had issues or can offer advice. My Superb 2 Columbus Sat Nav has started having problems finding itself when first starting took almost half an hour to find out where I was. It seems to sort itself out but at varying times, anything from 5 minutes to half an hour. It seems to be a few hundred yards out so normally has me on the wrong road or in a field (and my superbs is not even a 4X4) Any Ideas? Thanks!
  16. Well, the dealer had the car for a day on Friday. Removed and refitted the DPF (they say it kicks in at 2000rpm) and moved one of the intake hoses. A good effort by the dealer (Startin Skoda). Net result, at first it seemed quiter but once warmed up and on the motorway, same issue. Next step, who knows, Skoda UK I guess. I will give my feedback to the dealer on Monday. I am giving it a LONG run on Monday so will have a better idea on various road surfaces, but on M6, M5 today, same issue. At 68 you think you are in a limo, at 72 you don't. Maybe it's just the problem I have heard of some people being more sensitive to lower frequencies. Any other suggestions most welcome. Very frustrating and sad really, it's such a great car otherwise, fun to drive, spacious, comfortable etc etc
  17. Well, the feedback from the dealer. They are passing the query up to Technical Support UK and "The Factory". At least I know that I am not hearing things. With the workshop manager, went for a drive in my car and then in another Superb, the other car was quieter but did have a little extra noise at the same rev range. The dealer said he thought it could be something to do with something that cleans the carbon, that kicks in at just over 2000rpm when the car is warm, sorry pal but it's the same from cold. He agreed there was definite noise and even had a fellow workshop guy confirm it. No unusual noise from the engine bay etc, they could not find any loose bits or air leaking anywhere. So now I have to wait for the technical support / factory to respond and see if this issue is noted anywhere or is new, sounds like a never ending story about to commence. We'll wait and see. If anyone else has the issue, please contact your dealer and drum up more queries on this, I suspect if I am a one-off nothing too much will happen. Spent another couple of hours on the motorway today and it really does mess with my head. Wish I had got the upgraded sound system.
  18. Well looked for any loose stuff and apart from a few things not clipped in properly, nothing. The engine is quite noisy but it's a Diesel, obviously some great soundproofing work done. I tried checking for any distinct difference at just over 2000rpm but listening in the engine bay, no noticeable difference, leads me to think it could be exhaust but it sounds fine from the outside. It is going to the dealer on Wednesday so hopefully they can identify something. Knowing my luck it will probably go silent all of a sudden. I find the noise quite obvious and it can even be heard over a reasonably loud radio. Hopefully they have another 170 to compare against. If it is the same and can't be fixed, it is bad enough to get rid of the car and that scares me cos I love it to bits. Only a few things I would change, upgrade the sound system, auto dimming rear view mirror, parking sensors on the front, fit the Ipod interface (that's one for Xmas).
  19. The engine is the 2.0 170. I reckon it could be resonance rather than engine. The speedo over reads by 1 mph ( according to my tom-tom). As for the speed limit, that is the problem, at 70 it is noisy.
  20. Any others notice this or any ideas? Just finished my first real trip 400 miles in the Superb. Really comfy, great power but saddened by noisy motor .at 65 in 6th, no noise, at 80, no noise but at 70 to about 78 the engine seems noisy. If I change down to 5th things seem to quiet down. Unfortunately fuel consumption is hammered in 5th and the car is just too responsive for a cruise. Driving down the m1 and m42 with all the stupid overhead cameras does not allow the speed to drift too much so the ride ends up quite noisy. Outside of this speed range things are really quiet and refined, I actually don't think I can put up with it for another long journey. I travel a lot for work so am actually really concerned about this issue. The noise is actually there in every gear when sitting at 2000rpmor just above. Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome.
  21. Has anyone fitted/tried the RSAP Upgrade kit from Fiscon? I have a Skoda Superb 2 (1 year old). I got my BBerry bold working okay last night, today it just did not want to work, flattened the battery trying all day. V V V V very frustrating. the kit is here : http://www.fiscon.co.uk/fiscon-bluetooth-kits/vw-skoda-rsap-upgrade-kit-new.html I would like to know if it works okay (they say it does) before splashing hundreds, it's a work phone so can scam them for some of it.
  22. James26 - I saw your reply on Version 6 maps for someone, any chance of getting the "pm" (don't know what that is) as well. I really don't know what version maps I have, i think 5 cos I saw that somewhere but can't find it again.

Hopefully you can help this newbie.

    Thanks!

  23. Hi All Into the Skoda Family with a leap Superb II 170 Elegance Saloon/Hatch. Former Volvo S80 driver. Test drives were had in Avensis (Yawn), Insignia (Harsh Rattler), Mazda 6 (very good drive), Mercs (shocking dealer), Hyundai (just too tacky) etc Skoda was most impressive by far. So Here's hoping for the future. Issues so far [blackberry Connection to Bluetooth, working last night, not this morning :'( :'(:-(] Hope to contribute in the future, looks like a great forum. BATTY
