  1. Car is 7 years old and 80k miles on the clock, I wonder how well the refurbished one will get on. As above turbo was £290 and labour (with oil change and oil m filter) was £200 so £490 in total. Mostly everything is tracked on fuelly if you want a nosey
  2. Car is back on the road and credit must be given to my local garage in lancaster DA France in Galgate all work completed for £200 (including parts etc for the oil & filter) and the turbo from midland leaves me £490 lighter but I have a car with no turbo noise at all even though I am being a bit careful at the mo. My unwell turbo http://www.flickr.com/photos/fidget/12343059874/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/fidget/12343058734/ Can anyone advise what they think I may have done to cause the dfailure or what the engine may be suffering from that caused the turbo to fail please? The impeller of the turbo is loose and can be wobbled, which is definitley not a good sign either....
  3. I ordered a recon turbo from midland turbos after getting the numbers off the broken one from my car. 724930-8 g/n kac09112R hgr 03g 253 014H I had spotted that gap turbos were selling one matching the same numbers for £290 with 36months warranty but MT wanted £310+vat with 24months warranty, after telling MT of the competitors price they matched it :-) The garage told me the impeller had broken on my existing one, so not dead sure what the root cause is yet. The car has had a shark remap on it for 50k miles so I don't think that caused the issue. As always big thanks to briskoda boys n gals

  9. should be about 10%, but even with a rolling road you will not get an accurate measure of real world increase :-)
  10. Map loaded and first run to work looks promising, will see after a few fill ups. Many thanks to you all for arranging, supporting and participating in the group buy!! And yes, fast turn around :-)
  11. Maps back from ben and now loaded to sts, I will load to the car in the morning before work :-)
  12. with 10 months left on my car insurance policy with Admiral it will cost £27.81 increase for the shark remap for MPG :-)
  13. I've got a sun 4 solaris box somewhere and intel still use them for semiconductor design :-). I'll virtualise a tinyxp and pass USB then from slack or puppy.
  14. I'm another Linux user, do you require the proprietary software to down/upload the maps?
  15. a colleague of mine had his car service today and found the following: He got courtesy car which on starting it the car told him he had 10 miles left to drive, so had to go round the corner and spend 20mins queuing to get fuel. The car was in for a 96K service and MOT. He got called to be told the car required: Water temp sensor £107.51 bushes £100.01 bulb £11.53 wiper blade £18.17 coolant top up £8.94 oil 4.5litres - £56.21 so all in all £529.80 He is not happy with doing the work himself and looking at the paperwork they visually checked the car on arrival, mot'd the car failing it due to the NS Sidelight Bulb, replaced the bulb then passed the MOT..... He'll go to a local garage next time and I don't blame him. I would have raised hell over some of the prices, no wonder they call them "Main Stealers"
  16. The continentals I fitted after the bridgestones are really quiet
  17. I wanted some quieter tyres so fitted some continentals which I am happy with especially ad the 225/45/17 coat 80 a corner
  18. Ok, began fitting the first capacitor, went to the second one only to find that it is not working at all, does anyone have a spare standard tweeter I can have?
  19. Would someone know which fuse is switched on and off with the ignition as the cigarette lighter one is permanent live?
  20. The cheapest way of buying these was to buy 25 capacitors, I only need 4 so if you want some just ask and pay for the Package & Postage!! 22. Thank you both for great information. I will not be detailing my car as it will be the family bus and will get washed as and when I can, I do have a jet wash with a foam lance I can use so the snow foam idea appeals for a quick wash down, spot wash with microfibre and bucket and on occasion a hand dry. I have managed to wax my previous car once a year by hand and that is probably the frequency I will be able to maintain. As the car is black is does show dirt very quickly and I believe that the paint is softer than other colours so I wanted a way to protect against the wear and tear of a motorway. I am after durability and would really welcome your recommendations or pointers to areas on DW for me to educate myself  especially if it helps me source different products and brands on the market that will do the same job, maybe cheaper and potentially better would a product such as C1 Crystal Lacquer be a more durable finish for lazy me and stone chips?
