  1. see the pic here, thats the ECU open........ cant be read. so NOBODY can remap it
  2. the exploit was quite simple. the code was stored on one part of the board and then passed to the main chip everytime you switched the car on. there was a solder point on the board which you could hook up a machine to and it would read the code as it passed to the ECU.......... it was essentially a design flaw. this design flaw has been removed, so no its not looking good :(
  3. the future aint bright if i heard right, they are looking into making complete APR ECU's to swap with the stock one as its impossible to pass the encryption. why oh why did i buy a new VRS, should of bought a 2nd hand Golf R, there was a sweet one there on saturday and i came to the conclusion that its possibly the best car in the world.
  4. saw your car sitting there in the snow on saturday, snapped steering rack and no end of transmission problems right?
  5. exactly what i meant. Evan is vice president of APR and thats what he explained to me!
  6. mine hasnt used a drop in 1500 miles, stop start city traffic and long distance at 70mph+
  7. On Saturday i drove down my 2013 Fabia VRS to APR in milton keynes. Anyway long story short, my car has the MED 17.5 which has been kicking around for a while now. It is a varation they have never seen before, the loophole that tuners have been exploiting to access the ECU has been closed...... 1024bit encryption which if ur a geek you would know that this isnt something you can just crack. They are going to have to buy a whole ECU from VW and try to hack it, could take hours could take months :( Evan knew about VW closing the loophole in future models, its so bad that they are considering making whole new ECU's for the new MK7 golfs and future gti's which will obviously have locked ECU's. so if you have a 2013 model VRS, double check with the tuner before making the journey. Obviously they will find a way eventually, but at the moment theres nothing :(
  8. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ES1019EN-7-HD-Car-DVD-Player-GPS-iPod-TV-WiFi-3G-VW-PASSAT-SEAT-SKODA-/320993731522?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item4abcb7a3c2 not endorsed in anyway, just one i know about. Its much the same as the others really.
  9. thats one of those cheap chinese ones, about £180 online. Thinking about one myself..
  10. not as much torque as a stock mk6 gti, plus the gearbox isnt as nice as the 6 speed DSG in the gti either.......... but for 14k loaded with extras i cant complain.
  11. I drive alot with this gearbox and carry heavy loads. I get the same violent judder as well, i have concluded it happens after getting hot, once you turn the engine off for a few minutes and take off again the judder disappears. I assume this is because of the dry clutches, its quite common for them to do that when they get hot.
  12. I suggest trying the 2.0t A5, it will be quicker than your octavia because of the VVT. The bigger Audis share the same engine as your VRS but with variable valve timing added, which gives the engine a significant boost in torque over the regular 2.0t in vws and skodas. they come with 350nm of torque stock and remap to 475nm+. So the midrange in the 2.0t A5 should be exactly what you want
  13. Yes, your car is the best once again!
  14. Where did you hear this, i have information showing the opposite.
  15. The TSI does not need injectors, the TFSI however does. I am not a fan of the K04 on the TFSI engine, it makes it less punchy in the low/mid rpm range. The new turbo fitted on the 2011+ GTI's is an IHI and is slightly bigger than the K03 and seems to be a great compromise, does the newer VRS's use this IHI turbo?.
  16. If you have most of the bolt ons already then you only need this + software: http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Golf_VI--2.0T/Engine/Turbo/ES263849/ But i heard that it runs quite well without aoftware and no faultcodes!.
  17. Theres no telling them, any negativity no matter how correct against the Yeti gets a rather.... childish response!. Reminds me of iphone owners
  18. This Yeti 'hater' is a Yeti OWNER. I dont hate the Yeti anyway, its a great little tool, i use it for carrying big things and it does a tremendous job of it, engine is really punchy too. Its a great car, but the plastics inside are horrid....... dont see whats so hard to see about that, maybe you haven't heard of soft touch plastics before?. My GTI has such soft palstics on the dash, it feels like cushy leather around the clocks.
  19. No its well screwed together, not a creak or rattle, its a quality car. The plastics are cheap and hard, its kind of barren inside, even with a display screen and alloy trim piece. Really it doesnt compare well to other VAG vehicles except for the fabia. Theres no bias'ism (is that even a word!) in my opinion, i love the Yeti and have done 25k on mine, this is a well thought out realization i have come to from owning it. After posting that earlier post i did a delviery run with my GTI instead of my Yeti............ i got better economy out of my 500km old (not run in!) 2.0tsi with 6DSG then my remapped and well run in 1.2tsi with 7DSG......... shocking!.
  20. Wise decision, the Yeti is a big let down in many areas. I just bought a golf GTI mk6, the boot is BIGGER and the interior quality and visibility is a serious step up. I know the Yeti is a more 'budget' car, but the boot, plastics and visibility are all ****e.
  21. Remove seats in Yeti, its a van for work. GTI will be used to cart children around in from this point on (family trips etc) So the Yeti is the work horse and the GTI is the 'sunday' car.
  22. Just bought myself a new golf gti as my 2nd car, during the past week i was also considering a scirocco 1.4tsi, i test drove one this morning and found it made less torque but slightly more top end than my remapped 1.2tsi Yeti!. The mapped 1.2 feels more lively and sharp (almost N/A), has lots more midrange but doesnt quite have the last 1000rpm pull the 1.4 did. On the road in traffic the Yeti was faster and easier to drive fast as it required less revs and effort, im sure a mapped 1.4tsi would pee all over the 1.2 but im just comparing stock here!. Both cars had 7-DSG and the sciroccos DSG seemed to be mapped different, it changed gears faster and more aggressively than mine. I was pleasantly surprised by this, surprised enough to spend the extra and buy the 2.0tsi GTI instead. Anyway i thought this would be useful information for people considering different engines. I have 10 years of experience tuning, adding turbo kits and mapping cars and bikes, my 'rear end' is very sensitive to torque/bhp, this isn't some spotty 18 year old making uneducated opinions
  23. Its mapped by MTM-ASIA but its not an MTM map.......... long story. Anyway, yes the car is hilariously fun to drive, loving it every time i plant my foot down, how can a 1.2 punch out so much torque!? Fuel consumption in town is 99% identical, no change. But highway consumption has improved by about 15%, guess its taking less effort to hold speed?. I got 640kms out of a tank the other day, thats with traffic jams, 140kph cruising and a heavy foot in between.
