  1. i run ngk PFR7Q in mine with a stage 1 remap, 1 heat range better than 6Q's for a remap, think mine where about £10 each from motor parts direct
  2. Just in case anyone wants a pic took a few while doing the drop link... PS: those are halfords 2 tonne stands for £20 and fit there almost perfect!
  3. Hmm this is sounding like it's not worth doing lol, just for the sake of white dials!
  4. oh, thought the mileage came off the ecu...? but tbh it'd likely be lower mileage ;0)
  5. aha, i was just thinking of changing the card insert, so you rekon if i changed the whole unit it would display correct speed etc? guess the obd would recognise that theyve been changed?
  6. Darn, it doesnt look like they would be comptible......took a pic and compared, numbers are in the wrong place.
  7. Ok thnx, might have a nose around a few breakers yards once the turbos fixed, just find the completely black dash a bit boring
  8. Ah nice, thnx for the pic, and those are stock standard on the VRS?
  9. Anyone seen any white dial kits for a octy? Did a search on here but only found a thread for a diesel. Do the VRS have white dials? And most importantly.... how easy is it to get the dials out? ;0)
  10. yup been and seen Clive, no leaks! which is actually bad.... mot test tomorrow to make sure theres nothing else wrong then so long as its good to go it'll be a turbo recon
  11. Hmm not sure if the guy in the garage pre filled the filter.. Do you think there is a possibility that the turbo isn't knackered then? Would certainly be good news!
  12. Ahh forgot to mention some odd behaviour too, the cars been remapped and usually boost wise it peaks at around 16 and settles down at about 12 psi. However, occasionally it peaks and stays at around 5 psi, doesn't matter how hard I accelerate or anything, just goes to a max of 5. If I restart the engine then it goes back to normal. When it does this it runs ok and no warning lights or anything, not limp mode as it's done that once before and it was very obviously limp mode!
  13. Hi and thnx for the replies, hmm thinking about it, it did actually start making the noise a couple of days after an oil and filter change, coincidence? I made a sound clip this morning when leaving for work, but can't post it up on here at the moment, on my phone till this afternoon, could email it tho....and it's deffo a wooooing noise as opposed to a whoosh, certainly not the usual boost noise. Checked out your website too www.cntuning.co.uk, not too far from me, and I work in Winchester so only a blast down the M3, got your number and I'll give you a buzz a bit later. PS: the cars done 132k now
  14. Hi all, The turbo on my octy (4x4 elegance, 150hp ARX) has started making quite a whoooing noise now, mostly audible when i'm manouvreing and driving off after it's cold. I'm pretty sure it's got to be the bearings failing, is there any sure fire way to tell if it's on the way out? Also, anyone know of a good garage in the hampshire area for getting it removed/replaced? Found a place that can refurb for £100+vat (more if it's not just the bearings) Not really the sort of job i'd like to try and do myslef sadly.
  15. Yup i fitted the Forge 007 jobby you can just see it in the first piccy i posted, top right
  16. Remember tho that the 4x4 is base 150 bhp, dunno if that makes any difference Also fixed the high idle probs........ put that big pipe back together after a wrestling match. For some reason i slipped my foot 'under' the throttle pedal and lifted it up.. it made a little clunk and popped up by about an inch, then the idle dropped down to around 800ish. Must have got a little stuck when i was under the dash earlier lols
  17. Hi, just finished doing mine today, except for the idle oddity the wiring is ok, heres the wires i used: The earth is the far right hand wire. Fat red one is a perm +12v And the purple one was a switched and is +12v when the lights are turned on. You may not need the permanent live, depends on the gauge, but if you do.... (borrowed bowders image, sure he wont mind )
  18. I was thinking the same thing..... all i did was cut into the hose to the fpr, and disconnected that big black pipe. 1st up will be that black sai pipe, then go over the other and make sure nothing 'fell off'
  19. Well, i didnt touch the TB connection, i just pulled the neg off the battery, last time i touched the TB connection i had to go and get the TB recalibrated As for 16 peak being too high, no idea, but the car is remapped, so that's probably why. Would fiddling with the vacuum lines cause high idle rpm? if the battery is disconnected dosn't it reset the ecu or something? Oh well, will keep an eye on it, drives ok. I'll have another go at getting that stupid conector back together anyway, EDIT: btw i did take the feed from the fpr hose, as many had recommended that as the best place.
  20. Hi all, finally got my gauge in and all seems to be working, couple of Q's though as I am not sure if all is good..... I disconnected the battery as i had to pull the dash apart to get the vacuum hose thru, now my idle sits around 1500 :( Whilst putting the T piece onto the hose near the FPR i disconnected one of the black air line pipes and it's being a real sod to put back together, circled in red: Would this cause high idle rpm? And a pic of the gauge at idle: peaks at around 16 then drops off to around 10ish but is that looking fine where the needle is at idle? Many thnx Richie.
  21. they look nice but £60... all my cash goes on v-power Did however find this: http://www.edgeperformance.co.uk/view.asp?ID=6756 and they are quite local, could pick one up whilst at work, would save delivery costs. I seem to recall reading it is worth getting a "step motor" gauge or something similar?
  22. is this: http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=14248&xSec=296 from awesome the one that a lot of people use? if so whats the backlight colour or can it be changed by swapping a bulb over? read a few other forums that the halfords gauge is quite inaccurate.
  23. Had mine changed all for free about three weeks ago, 2001 51 plate
  24. Thnx, the install should be fine, seen the many guides etc, I thought it was correct to tap in next to the fpr, just wanted to check I hadn't missed anything :0)
