  1. Furthermore, Found this : http://www.mazda3forums.co.uk/index.php?topic=4415.10;wap2 Mazda's with same issues with Pump Teves mk60 , but Mazda seem to be able to swap over the faulty component, rather than the whole unit acording to Foxy on the mazda forum.
  2. There are posts on this elsewhere, but I'm still slightly confused, and nervous, as I'm thinking of buying one, and a £1500 bill is not appealling. There have been suggestions of buying a warranty, but at £350 a year, this seems a bit pointless as they fail every 3 to 5 years, which means I'd be better banking the money and taking my chances. There appears to be an issue with the mk60 abs pump on the Skoda Octavia (as well as other VW's), which features in some Skodas, but apparently the mk70 is ok. I'm looking at a 2007 2.0D 140PD L&K, as I want the leather seats, I therefore beleive this has the dodgey pump, Am I right ? What would I need to buy, to get one with one of the good abs pumps ? Also, Skoda/VW must have records on the amount failing. Is there no way they can be made to issue this information, freedom of information act or something, and then people could make an assessment of the risk ?
  3. You're getting 5, I'm afraid.
  4. I always thought that diesels were the better long term bet, being the more robust engine, just looking at the amount of taxi's with stupendously high mileages for example, or is that view old fashioned due to the complex modern diesel engine
  5. Thanks for all your input, my search, for my New Skoda is back on, You've put my mind at ease somewhat, here's to my new Skoda when I get it, and may it be reliable for many years.
  6. I am looking to buy a second hand Skoda Octavia 2.0TDI 140bhp estate. I currently have a 2.0 petrol Hyundai Coupe. It's 6 years old and covered 95,000 miles, and the only real work I've had is replacing the bits that wear, ie the brakes and the clutch at 91,000 miles, but I want something reliable with more space, and be reasonable quick. Having looked about at the various availble options I fancied the 2.0TDI Octavia as it's very nearly as quick as the coupe, lots more practical and spacious, lots more economical and I thought reliable. However, having looked through the forum, If I got one I'd be spending thousands on repairs on known faults the flywheel, the turbo, the fuel pump, the abs acu, the air conditioning. Surely I'd have to be a lunatic to buy the Skoda 2.0TDI expecting to have to shell out for the bills for all the repairs I'm going to have, especially when, touch wood, I've had a reliable car with few bills. Tell me these problems are few and far between and the Skoda 2.0TDI is the sensible choice to make, well, tell me that if it's the truth. I want to get a Skoda, but don't want to have an expensive and unreliable car
  7. I need a new car and have narrowed it down to a 3 year Skoda Octavia 2.0D Laurin & Klement. Unfortuneately, The appear to be only marginally more common than hens teeth especially in the Northern half of the Country where Most people seem to have opted for the 1.9D, but after a 2.0 petrol coupe, it seems a bit slow for my liking. My only concern since reading your lovely forum is the turbo eating and pump chewing habits of this engine. I want the L&K as I have dog, and my wife insisits on it sitting in the car with us, so leather is easier to wipe down. I'd quite fancy a vrs, but they all come with that pale grey patch in the seats that would soon become a pale brown patch, so hence I've decided on the L&K, fingers crossed a good un will show up soon.
