  1. How do I stop the alarm from going off if I wish to sleep in my car (car camp)? I presume the internal motion sensors would activate the alarm and leaving the ignition on would flatten the battery but is there a way to temporarily disable the sensors?
  2. I have just bought an 08 Fabia 3 and wish to upgrade the basic radio currently fitted. I would like a unit that includes a sat-nav and cd radio, other features like Bluetooth and Mp3 connectivity would be nice but aren't really that important. What recommendations do you have for me? Thanks, Kev627
  3. Yes, there weren't been any problems with this. I firmly believe he knew the car had problems right from when he acquired it and was hoping whoever bought it either thought they had caused problem and fixed it themselves or ignored it.
  4. UPDATE On Thursday I phoned the dealer to find out what's happening with my car because the car was supposed to have gone in to Skoda garage on Monday to get the engine fixed. He was a little surprised by my call and somewhat vague in explaining why I hadn't heard anything and then he said he would phone them now and get an update. He phoned back 5 minutes later and was equally vague in his explantions as to what the Skoda garage have done so I thanked him and finished the call. It was clear he either had done nothing or had simply given the car to garage to sort and washed his hands of it. On Friday whilst I was at work my wife phoned the Skoda garage direct and the man she spoke to was shocked by how long dealer had had my car for and what he'd told me had been done so far regarding booking car in and getting things looked at which was yet another big red flag. When I got home my wife told me all of this and that she'd had a look again on net for a Skoda and found a much better one for sale from reputable garage only 15 miles away for only a few hundred pounds more. Saturday morning I phoned dealer and told him I want my money back, he said to give it until Monday but I told him I want my money back and we arranged for me to drop courtesy car off in the afternoon. I then phoned local garage to book a test drive on other Skoda and despite having the same sized engine as the first it was totally different and the trim level is 3 whereas other one was (barely) 1 so all in all I think I have done very well out of this!
  5. Don't worry, even the slightest murmur and it'll be going back!
  6. The first day I drove the car after the engine clean all seemed absolutely fine but the following day exactly the same thing happened. I phoned dealer and told him engine is obviously faulty and I would like my money back, I spoke clearly, concisely and to the point so dealer knew I was serious. We discussed it and he said he would get car booked it to nearby Skoda dealer to look at engine. I agreed to this as car was good for single day it worked OK and it is going in tomorrow.
  7. @seriesdriver 90,000. I too think he simply cleaned the engine and it needs more in depth work that he thought he could avoid.
  8. <sigh> The dealer turned up on Thursday to take the car but he also had a mechanic with him who had a tool kit. They took the car away somewhere to fix it and returned a couple of hours later. I drove the car about 30 miles Friday with no problems at all but this morning exactly the same problem occurred in almost exactly the same place! I got home from work, phoned the dealer and told him car obviously has fault in engine and I want my money back. He persuaded me to give the car one more chance, initially he said he would take the car, fix it, drive it around for 1 day to check it's ok and return it to me. I said he was to fix it and I was to give it 1 weeks driving it to and from work to see if it has been fixed ok (properly?) and he agreed to this so new car part 3 starts tomorrow. Yes, I am getting very frustrated by this!
  9. To be honest if absolutely anything, no matter how minor goes wrong with the car in the next few weeks it's going straight back and I'm getting a full refund! Over the last few days I've had this nagging thought that this car could easily end up being a money pit...
  10. I've just got off the phone to the dealer and he is going to drive the 50 miles to me, drop off a courtesy car, take my car to be fixed and then return it.
  11. I bought the car and wife collected it and drove it 50 miles home without any issues on Saturday. This morning I'd driven it 2 miles and the control system for exhaust light cam on and the car went in to limp mode, coming home from work the light was on but engine power was ok for the first 10 miles before suddenly going to limp mode again.
  12. Message from dealer. Specialist looked at car with VW/VAG software and is fairly confidant car needed a good drive and some cleaners. Cleaning treatment has been used on car and has been driven with no issues.
  13. I was due to test drive a 58 Skoda 1.4 TDi today but as it was being driven to it's MoT the dealer noticed it was sluggish, down on power. He phoned me and explained the car would be fixed before I drove it but what would be a big red flag as to cause this that could have long term implications?
  14. I own an 04 Fabia and my daily drive to work is a 10 mile trip down the A303 dual carriageway. Several weeks ago I noticed the suspension was rattling during the journey, it is still as comfortable as it always has been but is sounding not so good. Does anybody have any idea if this is (going to be) a problem?
  15. About 11 months ago the passenger door on my 04 Fabia didn't always lock/unlock when I used the key fob until about 5 months ago when the door remains permanently locked despite my best efforts using both key and fob. The drivers door lock hasn't worked from the fob for several years but is absolutely fine when I use the key. I understand the car will fail it's MoT because of the passenger door but does anybody have any recommendations for a garage in Salisbury that could sort both doors for me? Thanks.
  16. Somebody had a look at my car (who knows quite a bit about cars) and they said they really can't see how water leaking in to the door can cause the condensation problems as the rubber seals on rear windows are designed to let water in and the water then escapes through the holes at the bottom of the passenger doors. He has seen many cars with condensation problems (Skodas and others) and has never seen them with such bad condensation problems as mine.
  17. My wife was chatting with an RAC breakdown recovery man earlier today and my leaking Fabia door was mentioned and he said that it might not be the doors that need resealing but the rubber door surrounds need replacing. He had a look at my car and he noticed the rubber around the windows was looking very worn and he said as there is no water pooling in the base of the door that he thinks the condensation problems I'm suffering would be better fixed by replacing these than doing doors. Has anybody else done this and fixed the problem?
  18. I finally got round to re sealing my rear doors this morning and removed all the relevant screws but despite looking for 30 minutes I couldn't find the clips to enable the plastic covering to be removed. Can anybody offer any advice on how to find them?
  19. He'd be a little cheesed off if his BMW / Skoda behaved like a Type R, my brother's has on 2 occasions had bits of engine fall off as he's been driving and looking into it he found it is something that happens quite often with Type R's!
  20. Drove it to and from work dreaming of the cheapest way to increase torque and thus acceleration. <sigh> 1.9 TDi
  21. It is illegal (and renders your car's insurance invalid) having number plates with lettering that is smaller than 79mm tall. The third plate in the OP pictures and Big Jase's plate are both illegal.
  22. Agree with the lights, no reflectors visible not legal, but the number plate might be illegal because the raised lettering appears to reflect also which could cause problems with some speed cameras.
  23. I thought fog lights were generally much brighter than dipped lights (similar to full beam) judging by the number of clowns I've been dazzled by who think adverse visibility means clear blue skies etc.
