  1. I currently run a vrs TSI, and on my daily 7 mile commute through leeds, I'm averaging 34mpg (if i drive slower i can get 37mpg) On a motorway run at between 70-80 I'm getting around 40mpg On a long run from Leeds to Anglesey using a mixture of motorway and the A5 (with lots of overtaking) I averaged 42mpg over 380 miles. Considering my old car (focus 1.8tdci) would manage 49mpg on the same run, I'm very impressed. I have never driven the diesel engine, but chose the petrol because I mainly do short journeys now around town, and it would be likely that a DPF would be problematic for me.
  2. Hi there, have just recently bought vrs second hand so I'm not sure whether this is normal or not. When is start off in first gear there is a definite crunching noise just as the clutch is being engaged. It's more pronounced if I hold the car with the clutch on a hill. This doesn't seem to happen if I start the car going in second gear. And it doesn't happen all the time, only if I haven't used the clutch for a while whilst driving, it also rarely happens when the vehicle is cold. My car is a September 09 tsi, and I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions, as don't want to seem a fool for taking it to the garage if the noise is normal. Thanks
  3. I have just recently acquired my VRS TSI, and was suprised that on a trip through Leeds out into the moors (with lots of overtaking ), then back through the city centre I managed 36.9mpg according to the trip computer. This was a LOT better than i was expecting, as my old car (a focus 1.8 TDCI 115bhp) would only manage 44mpg on such a trip.
  4. Thanks for the replies. I did have my side lights on, and was looking down at them, so I guess that explains it Thanks again
  5. Hi, I've been a long time reader of briskoda whilst saving up to get a skoda of my own. Today my patients has been rewarded, and I have bought a 59 plate white petrol octavia VRS hatch (second hand), picking it up on thursday. It's pretty standard, but has rear parking sensors (no maxidot unfortunately) I just have one quick question to other VRS owners, regarding the DRL. The DRL on my car doesnt seem that bright, infact it was quite difficult to see that they were on at all!. I allways presumed they would be as bright as the ones on the A5. I was just wondering if there was a switch or setting somewhere that made them brighter, or if later models came with brighter LED's ?? Any way, very excited to join the club, can't wait till thursday now Gethin
