  1. Planning on changing the timing belt next week. ANy one got any guides for a bit of light reading before I dive in??
  2. Back in May I had the coils packs replaced under warranty by the local dealer. Last week I was caught in traffic after a bit of a run. After a few minutes the temperature gauge started rising until the dash told me that I should stop and let the car cool. The cooling fans did not kick in. Turning up the interior heater to maximum sorted out the problem. On inspection it appears that the air intake top cover had not been refitted properly, had got wedged in the larger of the two cooling fans. Removing it did not resolve the problem. Upon checking the fuse box, it was clear that the 50amp strip fuse had blown, meaning that no current would flow to the fans. Today I changed the strip fuse; now the main cooling fan will not stop spinning, even with the ignition off, key out, and the engine cold. Any ideas?? I know that water ingress often causes fan issue, but this clearly is not the issue here.
  3. Booked mine in this morning to have them changed in a few days. Should only take half hour, so having it done on the way to work. It's annoying that it takes a post on a forum to find out about these things. If you don't use the Skoda Stealer regularly, you'd never find out about a recall...
  4. I get 27ish normally on mine, but only have a short motorway hop to work and back. If I do a long run I get over 35. I find cruising at 90 is more efficient than 80....weird! (obviously on a private road )
  5. My iphone streams music via BT to my Parrot car kit no probs Check out my other posts for install pictures. Certainly got to be easier and cheaper to buy a mki9200 kit
  6. Now you see it.................. Now you dont! The remote is mounted here...... Obviously with the older model the control is on the screen, but with some careful mounting it should all go in easy! Suddenly I realise from the photos I need to vacuum!
  7. I've positioned my screen, albeit a MKi9200 inside the ashtray compartment. I removed the ashtray body then mounted the screen using sticky pads and short length of thing metal strip. The ashtray flap closes to hide the installation and I open it to view the screen. The cables from the installation come down from the stereo, along with the blue box, hidden behind the climate control panel, then come up into the ashtray compartment. Much more tidy that mounting it on the dash somewhere. Also one less thing to grab the eye of any would be thief I would take photos............ but it is raining outside
  8. Try First Direct. They beat any quote by 10%. See what they come out at, then ring back your insurance company to see if they'll beat them. Personally I'm with Directline. No-one beats them for me every year. Plus once I've quoted up with first direct, they always beat them even if it is only a few quid
  9. You probably could just bypass the switch wiring. The problem I could think of is when it comes to use cruise control, it won't work as it'll think you have the clutch pressed in
  10. That K-seal stuff is magic! Had a major water leak problem on my old BMW 530. Would have to top it up every few days. Nightmare! One bottle of k-seal sorted the problem. Drove the car for another 2 years after that before trading up. I understand that it is a permanent fix for certain water leaks. Obviously nothing really beats a head gasket repair, but at that cost, Id always try the K-seal first!
  11. So I'm just starting my first winter with the Octy. I am noticing how naff my rear screen is at demisting. Clearing the ice from a sharp frost happens really quick, but the misting inside takes forever. It doesn't mist up lots inside, but it just seems not to want to shift. Does everyone have this problem?? My boot is dry, so no obvious leaks. The misting isn't really thick, just a sligh mist up as one would expect in the cold. Also does the aircon switch off in the cold?? It seems that clearing the misting at the front takes longer than I'd expect with aircon at the front too??
  12. Sounds a perfect reason to buy a manual to me!
