  1. All my mk1s (diesel estates) have comfortably done 50mpg btw
  2. I actually ended up buying the VRS-but-not-labelled-VRS version they only made for a year. It says 1.9 on it, but it's the 2l GTI engine and will stick you to the seat. I'm amazed as it will trip along at 80 and not even break a sweat, just a shade slower than our Jag XF, but almost double the MPG ....my opinion remains; the mk1 octy = best car ever built. Others may be faster, bigger etc etc but when you balance it all with economy, reliability, price and sheer usefulness, theres no contest!
  3. 1.9tdi estate, laurin n klement tho! Heated seats!?
  4. Just wanted to express joy that i'm back in the mk1 club. I 'upgraded' to a mk2 (1.6 tho) and it earnt the nickname 'the sh**mobile', being towed by the RAC twice in a year a 3x the price of a mk1 on parts!!!? Agonised for months on what to replace it with and in the end went back to mk1 my aim is to totally do it up and have my first half a million miles car!! (Everyone i know is mortified at what i've done lol)
