  2. That's exactly what I do on my present Octy. On the odd time I forget to, and leave stop/start in action, I soon realise why I turn it off !!

  4. I'm likely to be changing, later this year, to the current Fabia hatch 1.2 SE (110 hp manual). Can anyone tell me if it has a button to cancel the stop/start function (like my present Octavia has) or something similar?
  5. Can only tell you what they told me! If I'd wanted to pay up now and keep the car it would have been about £8800. If I kept paying monthly at about £169 till next April, the settlement figure to keep the car would have been about £6600. I didn't "borrow" anything. I traded in my Mk. 2, added some cash at that point, and they worked out the scheme (interest free). The trade in, my cash, all the monthly payments, and the final lump sum, added up to the exact cost price of the car.
  6. Part of the deposit was, of course, my traded-in Mk. 2 - can't remember what they allowed on it but I added a bit and that was the deposit. If I had gone the full 42 months I would have had to then pay something over £6K to keep the car, or else start some other deal
  7. All very interesting. In effect, they are going to simply collect my car, I get no cash nor do I pay any more. At the end of my 6 month "holiday" , assuming I am ok to drive again, I will simply look for a deal on either a new car, or nearly new second-hand one, see what discounts and/or deals are around, and kind of go from scratch. I've never lacked a trade in before so don't know quite what to argue in the way of purchase discount. All new territory to me. Might go for Fabia 1.2 [110 hp] but it sounds a bit weedy and anyway it is still early days.

  9. Heard from Skoda finance and I can end the pcp any time now. Give it back or buy it for about £8800
  10. Due to cardiac medical treatment I have to stop driving for 6 months. I'm on a 42 month PCP and am currently about 30 months into it. There seems no point in my having the car on the driveway doing nothing, while still paying nearly £170 a month. So I'm going to contact the dealer and get it taken back. Then when the 6 months is up I'll see what new deals are around. Shame, because I like the car and it hasn't even done 12000 miles yet! The point is, what should I expect from the PCP if I do this? Will I simply have to stop monthly payments, or pay some cash towards it, or what? Advice appreciated.

  12. Mine is an October 2014 1.4 TSi manual on regular 16" wheels. Road tax £30. So far no hint of any mechanical trouble. Feels like a MUCH bigger engine. Gets well over 40 mpg on a reasonably long run, cruising say in the 60s. So far all I have replaced is wiper blades. I haven't yet heard of any built-in reliability problems, certainly not with timing chains.
  13. My 1.4 TSi manual is about £160 p.a. but with high NCB etc. A lot depends on postcode and of course your own history, also I only do about 6000 miles a year. But as mentioned before my renewal quotes have often been cheaper than the previous year (this is with eSure) and also cheaper than getting a new quote off compare sites, which I find very unusual.
  14. Mine is £30, (applied up to the 120 emission figure) with original 16" wheels. But apparently the whole system is changing from this April, and going up again - not sure what it is going up to though, possibly the £110 mark?
  15. Mine is the quietest engine I've ever had. When idling at traffic lights I often think the engine has stopped (and, no, I do NOT use stop/start!!!)
