  1. Got a genuine Nokia mount for my Nokia, the curved arm makes it a perfect fit. Best one I have had. Funny thing is, an iPhone fits perfectly so I got another one for my wife's 4S
  2. That does sound a little light. We had an expedition in a 1.8 TSI DSG Superb last weekend. The equation was, 3 grown-up blokes, luggage to drive 250km, then commute for 3 days, then drive 250km back. The trip up was dry, return was wet and about 25 percent of the travel was on freeways, the rest suburbia and twisties. We got 42mpg. Amazing, since when the young guys were driving, they gave it some. I was the Skoda man (Roomy pilot) who insisted that we insisted and got a Superb. They were stunned. I actually spotted one of the guys checking prices of used Octavias with the same package. They were pretty damn impressed. Yep, I reckon that your car should do a whole lot better than that but this one was well run in...
  3. I thought it timely to add this... Moving out of a house yesterday, we had to take apart the following items and move them. Misc kitchen fittings, including electrical items like microwave, toaster, elec jug, silverware, a full set of cups, plates and bowls. 1 single bed, less mattress. 1 Queen Size waterbed; base (flat panels, like from Ikea), foam base, cover, wool zip-in panel, bladder (we removed all the H2O), heater, plugs, fittings. A few boxes, containing boxes and CDs. It all fitted in the Roomie and it went IN ONE TRIP. The seats came out of the back, and there was not much leg room in the front but it all went in. Even after all the other adventures, I was truly amazed. Long live the Tardis!
  4. I thought I would add this, to put things in perspective. Mrs B and I were busy today, clearing things out for an upcoming house move. We had half a car full of stuff; clothes that needed washing before they go the Op Shop, a large desktop computer we are donating, some wine we picked up on the way, that sort of stuff. Anyway, we make the mistake of passing through a furniture outlet and the table we quite liked, and which we were considering buying when we settle into the new house, is on-sale; half price, they have one only and it will sell today. So, we buy it. Problem is, because it is so cheap, they are going to nail us on the delivery fee. So, I suggest we take it with us. "You can pick it up from the downstairs loading dock," says the sales gal. "What kind of car do you have?" "A station wagon," say I, trying to not look at my aghast wife, who is certain that I am about to look like an idiot. Twenty mins later, I drive up to the dock and present the receipt. A few mins later, 2 guys wheel the table -- which is heavy wood with metal legs, 1.5m long and which would not come apart except, perhaps, during a nuclear event -- out on a dolly. "Where's your car?" asks one. "There," say I, pointing at the Roomy in Czech Racing Grey. "It's never going to fit in there!" says Mr Teen Moving Guy. "Wanna bet?" I reply. Ninety seconds later, all 3 rear seats have been folded and two of them are out of the car. In goes the table, with room to spare. The two seats go back between the table's legs, and we are ready to roll. Here is the fun part. At the same time, a different and slightly smaller table is being delivered to a guy in a Holden Commodore Sportwagon. It will not go in. The look he gives me as I climb into the Skoda is worth the price of the car. Oh yeah, I am 1.90m tall... I tried to attach an image but I can't figure it out.
  5. Yikes Julian, you have it real bad! I bought one of the run-out Roomies from North Sydney and everyone who saw the car for the first time said it looked like two other cars had been cut in half and welded together. Now, months later, and with most of them having ridden in the car, and after making jokes about how the Pope should be sticking out the top, there is almost universal approval for the amount of space, the comfort and all the safety features. Honestly, every time I open the door, I look at the seat and think "There's not a lot of room!" and when I sit down, I think, "****, yes there is!" And I am 6'4". As you say, for the money, nothing comes close. I quite fancy a Super B TSI/DSG wagon, but I reckon I have a long way to go before I get rid of the current 'Skodavic' ...
  6. Speaking of which... http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf/story2/AA28491A62A3D5C3CA2577ED00189499 You gotta understand, Australians are accustomed to Holden's Commodore and Ford's Falcon winning these awards, because the 'American' car companies have the populous brainwashed that you gotta have a big, 6-cylinder, 20mpg RWD barge to be a real Aussie. There have been 2 awards so far that have categories, and the best family cars have been named as the Superb in one, and the Nissan Maxima in the other. In one of the awards, there were no Aussie cars in the finalists! Now, if only the price of the Superb would drop, so I can buy one! PS the Car of The Year was the ... VW Polo!
  7. Gday, I have a petrol Roomy, you are right about the diesel engine but I could not afford to pay more than the super-discount price. Dunno about the radio swap but it looks like a standard DIN fitting to me. I hated it until my son reprogammed all the settings, and now it sounds better. Crap, that makes me sound old... Yep, the horn is definitely gay, even my wife's i30 makes it sound **** weak. Still. I am 6000km into my Skoda, love it to bits, would like more ooomph but I am pleased with everything else.
  8. A Skoda and a Hyundai? What an unusual combination! And, is it ambiance or ambivalence?
  9. Melbourne here, and 1.6 petrol, not diesel, but I concur with everything you wrote. Brilliant car, great value, loadsa room, a ton of accessories thrown in, great value. I can only recommend the Roomy to anyone considering getting one. PS A mate of mine, who is a Czech, told me that his Astra had 4 visits to get work done under warranty in 2 years! He is now shopping for a Skoda!
  10. Thanks lads, I have filled it up with 95 RON and it is humming in fluent Czech!
  11. I must admit, I had what may be the first of what could turn out to be many Roomy moments today. I was walking out of a supermarket and a well-dressed chap, and his rather attractive wife (I am old enough to find women in their 40s, or even older, attractive!) were standing next to my car, taking in the magnificence of the Roomster, which is in Czech Racing Grey (that sounds way more fun than 'Anthracite'). I clicked the remote and the car 'flashed', and I proceeded to hang the shopping bag on the hook in the back. They showed great interest. "Never seen one of these, have you?" I asked. "Yes, but not many," said the gent (Roomies are pretty rare in Melbourne). "I like the look of Skodas and they are good cars, but this pretty unusual. Had it long?" No," informs I, "but I really like it." "Well, good luck to you," he says, and they swivel off and he clicks the remote entry to his ... Lexus. Perhaps one could get more attention by driving around in a drop-top Benz, with a swimsuit-clad Elle McPherson on board, but I doubt it (though having said that, that is one theory that I would like to test, live). But for now, I am a happy Roomster-er. So, one more benefit of driving a Roomster; the envy of Lexus owners!
