  1. Thanks for the replies Nick and Tech, much appreciated. They said there were a couple of noises, and maybe also something coming from direction of flywheel... As I said, driving well, and an independent guy took it for a drive, threw the eye over it and wasn't unduly concerned. So long as nothing falls off in interim I suppose!

  3. Hi all. After a service was told Octavia will need a passenger side reverse wheel bearing. Local mechanic had a look a few days later. He says there's a small amount of noise coming from it and he wouldn't be unduly worried about replacing it in a hurry until if and when it gets significantly worse. He also says this as he says no play apparent from steering wheel. Car over 10 years old, so not sure if it would be worth replacing anyway. Be very grateful if anyone could shed any light from similar experience
  4. Hi all Have an Octavia. After a routine service (car nearly 9 years old, about 100,000 in miles/ 160 000km) was told I had a worn large rear wishbone bushing. Was told it would probably be best to replace before next service (fixed mileage) As yet I don't feel any effects from driving. Wonder should I get it done immediately or could it wait a while...also what effect exactly does such a worn bushing have on the car's performance...would it be a slow decline (more noise etc.) or a sudden problem arising? Any advice appreciated
  5. Hi all Have a split rear shock absorber cover on Octy. From what I've seen or read shouldn't fail UK MOT/Irish NCT.? Was wondering is it necessary to replace it and associated costs. Also, does it still offer some protection while still on the shock, even when spilt? Any advice appreciated, thanks very much.
  6. got new turbo on octy 1.9 diesel after old one failed. New oil added to flush out any contaminate. Regular oil service due in about 2k km. can I take it I can now postpone oil service due to new oil being put in with the replacement turbo?
  7. thanks Mark, will try and check out battery levels. appreciate the help
  8. Hi all, New to Briskoda, great site. Have been driving skodas for last decade. Currently have a 2005 diesel Octavia. A bit sluggish starting recently. Garage diagnosed 2 faulty glow plugs and a temp sensor. All replaced. However I am now also told the starter motor is slow to start and may give up in a matter of months. Doesn't sound particularly bad, only a bit sluggish when starting warm, which I'm told is common. Wondering whether this is normal, and would I get any indication when starter is about to give up the ghost. Also, how long is the lifespan for a starter motor in the Octavia.? Approx 88,000 km/55000Miles on clock. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
