  1. Thanks, I'll try and get it up on ramps tomorrow and have a look (I assume you meant exhaust pipe, not manifold). Cheers
  2. I thought I once read that the alarm siren was located in one of the rear wheel arches - above the liner. Well I can now report that it aint there - not on my car anyway!
  3. Setting the alarm off isn't a problem, I just arm it and wait - sometimes 30 seconds, sometimes 2 hours. Trouble is, once it's started, there's no stopping it, I mean literally, there's no stopping it!!! Key in the door, key in the ignition, fob presses, nothing stops it. I've been known to drive miles out into the countryside with the alarm blaring, getting the blessed thing away from the neighbours. Usually, after 5-10 mins driving, it stops and I can then gingerly drive home. Believe me, it's no fun ragging around the country lanes in the small hours, dressed in pyjamas with the alarm squeeling blue murder - one of theses days the boys in blue will have a field day! The strange thing is, when it acts up like this the hazards don't flash but they do with the normal lock/unlock proceedure. So for the past few years, I've hardly ever locked the car - far from ideal when shopping in Corby! To cut a story short, I'm trying to trade the car in at the moment and thought it prudent to try and finally silence the wayward alarm as I don't think it'll look good if it has one of it's fits just as i'm striking a deal on the forecourt somewhere !
  4. Hi, can someone tell me exactly where the factory alarm siren is located and how to acces it on a 2001 Fabia? I need to get mine disconnected ASAP. Cheers
  5. If the price was right, maybe - say £2500 - £3000, but they're adamant they won't drop much under the £3990 asking price. Perhaps if someone tries them again in another few months....?
  6. Just got back from viewing the car and can report that IMHO it's not worth half the asking price! Where to start? The paintwork is COVERED in scratches, at least two of the door skins are dented (not dinged), those horrible cheapie wheels are so badly corroded they are fit only for scrap - and several tyres are flat, all four doors show signs of serious water leakage, the drivers seat bolster is worn through, and the seats in general are very tatty, most of the upolstery and trim show signs of mildew, trim is hanging off in the boot, there's a terrible rattle underneath when the engine is switched off and there is absolutely no service history. Other than that, it's a minter:rofl:. Oh and what isn't shown in the photo is that there's another one of those nasty stickers going down one side of the bonnet and they weren't prepared to remove them for fear of paint damage. It had apparently been reduced from £4495 () to £3990 and he wasn't going to move much more below that. On a positive note, he did offer £800 - £1200 for mine PX (with the inoperative PAS), but then it would look like a new car next to that vRS. And on the subject of my broken PAS, it started working on the way back from Leicester!
  7. Cheers mate - I'll keep you all posted. This isn't just about finding a decent replacement car, I also need to find a dealer prepared to take my old one as PX - X plate, petrol green, biege interior, 150k miles..... and no working PAS! Still not finished de-funning the TDi Elegance yet either. So far swapped dip and main beam bulbs back, removed Dragon box, PD160 intake, removed my 'personal clutter', washed and vacced... Still got wheels to do and I can't find a std air filter element so will have to leave the K&N - I'm knackered already!
  8. I'm hoping to get over to see it this afternoon. Just putting my TDi Elegance back to standard this morning, so I will have a set of vRS wheels available - stickers should come off with gentle heat (maybe). I admitt that when I saw the ad, I didn't even click to open the details - car just looked too naff. But I'm going with an open mind, it's one owner from new, 70k miles and under £4k, don't know about service history yet.
  9. You're right, and hasn't been taxed since 16-09-08! Does seem a bit iffy, that's why I was trying to uncover any known history here. Thing is, it wouldn't take much to return it to std, (I can rob std vRS wheels off my present car) and it's CHEAP! I'm going to try and get to see it tomorrow or Friday, I'll report my findings after that.
  10. Don't worry, haven't bought it yet, but rest assured if I do, it'll be de-stickered, de-cheapo wheeled and de-lexus lighted ASAP!!!!! Didn't want to sound too critical of the car to start with in case the owner is known here, but I'm definitely not digging it's present look LOL!
  11. OK, my description hasn't rung any bells. Perhaps a piccie might jog someones memory, it is quite (ahem) memorable - if you've seen those graphics, I doubt you'd forget in a hurry!
  12. Hi, I'm looking for a replacement for my poorly 1.9tdi Elegance and have come across the above car offered for sale at a Leicester dealers. Apparently it's had only the one owner from new, so I was wondering if that was you or if you knew who it was? Externally the car has been slightly modded with some unknown make, satin black five spokes and custom decals. I'm sure someone here must know something of this car - if you think you recognize it, I'd love to hear from you.
  13. Thanks mate, I did have this issue myself about a year ago. The main symptoms were flickering headlights (and dash lights) and intermitant steering assistance - all due to fluctuating charge voltage. It wasn't untill I heard about the DFM wire that I realized the alternator charge light hadn't been coming on with ignition. Sadly, I don't think it's that wire again this time. Appreciate the suggestion though - keep them coming if you have any other ideas.
  14. Thanks, I may try Lummox with a PM - his workshop's not so far from here. What I'm mindful of trying to avoid though is spending a lot on diagnostics only to be told it's going to take £££s to fix. Cheers.
  15. Tried a different battery on it - no difference. Anyone want a cheap project car?
  16. Help, my aging Fabia is again giving me cause for concern. Last year, after the usual PAS light issues, I fitted a new angle sensor which did finally cure all the usual symptoms. Today however after filling with diesel the PAS light came on again. Re-starting the engine made no difference, it was staying on this time! When I got home I disconnected the battery for 10 mins hoping this may reset something. When I re-connected the battery, the light was still on, but now absolutely no power assistance. I then ran my old freeware copy of Vagcom which gave the following: VAG-COM Version: Release 311.2-N Control Module Part Number: 6Q0 423 156 F Component and/or Version: Lenkhilfe 0003 Software Coding: 00150 Work Shop Code: WSC 00000 2 Faults Found: 01288 - Terminal 30: Steering Assist 06-00 - Signal to High 01290 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs 29-00 - Please Register/Activate So with these results and with having searched here and on the net, I started to look for power supply issues. I can now confirm that the battery is fully charged, resting voltage is around 12.6, running voltage is a steady 14.5v. I've checked and cleaned the fuses (#7 in main fusebox and #3 above the battery), then went on to check and clean the plugs on the pump itself - I am getting full battery voltage and a good earth at the plug. So what next? I'm guessing I should have the battery drop tested, but must this still be a battery issue or could the pump be dead? If it's the latter, it could mean the end for my 150k mile Furby as it's also wanting a set of tyres and a timing belt service. Just hope it's the battery.
  17. Thanks for the reply guys. I've spent much of the afternoon on the phone trying to get this sorted but it's all still in the air. Apparently the type of screen I'm after is refered to as an 'encap' - encapsulated; and it's what was originally fitted to the car by Skoda. Ringing around the independant windscreen suppliers/fitters confirms that all the available aftermarket screens for the Fabia are indeed encaps. My problem is that the car is presently with my insurance approved repairer who are authorized only to use genuine parts. Their genuine VAG supplier (not VAG themselves) can only supply the screen without the seal. So this is where we're at! I'm still waiting to hear back from VAG as to whether the genuine encap screen is actually still available and my insurance company will not authorize any other action until their engineer gets involved. All this for a blessed windscreen - AHHHHHHHHH!
  18. Hi, I'm after some urgent info regarding Fabia Mk1 windscreen replacements. A couple of weeks ago I was unfortunate enough to be involved in a minor accident in my 2001 Furby. To cut a long story short, the car went into an approved repairer for the necessary work - this included a new screen as the bonnet had impacted and cracked the old one. When I collected the car it was immediatly clear that the work was sub standard. There were numerous screws missing from the arch liners, one liner was not fitted correctly, the bumper skin was missing two screws from underneath.... However, the most alarming fault was with the windscreen replacement. It had clearly not been fitted centrally - uneaven gaps on each 'A' pillar and it didn't have the small rubber fillet seal which fills the gap and hides the adhesive etc. Needless to say, I returned the car and insisted that it was put right to my satisfaction. Anyway, I've been away for the past week and have just rang the repairers for an update. They tell me they've sorted the bodywork 'niggles' but have yet to fit another replacement screen as it too does not have the seal. They are telling me that according to their supplier, Skoda no longer supply the 'earlier' screen with the fitted seal! Does this sound right? Has anyone recently had a replacement seal and does it have the fillet seal or just a gap around the glass? I need answers quickly as they are now waiting for my approval to fit the screen they have. I've just rang Autohaus Skoda for an official take on things but they say it'll take 24hrs to get a reply from the central warehouse. Please help!
  19. Yeah, your symtoms sound exactly the same as what I had. The striker is held by two torx bolts, they are very tight! You'll need an appropriate bit on a 1/2" socket drive or somthing similar to shift them. Best to mark the existing position first with a pencil or felt pen before moving anything. I'd try slakening the bols slightly then give the striker a tap - try upwards 0.5mm-ish and try it at that. You may need to experiment. Obviously you don't want to move anything enough to affect door closure or the way the door visually sits in the shell.
  20. Could it be one of the o/s door locks moving slightly on its pin? I had this issue with the drivers door on mine, on hard accelerating or braking I would get a slight knock (usually just one) as the door moved slightly in the shell. It was a good while back now and I think it was Lumox (Skoda master tech here - where's he gone?) who pointed me in the right direction. Apparently it was not an unknown problem. I just adjusted the striker pin very slightly, greased it all up and never got the noise again. HTH
  21. There's a mint Favorit not a hundred yards from my house right now. The same family have owned several Favorits during the past few years - all of them in fantastic cosmetic condition. They own them because they choose to - they are Skoda enthusiasts, afterall there are plenty of other cheap motors out there to choose from. I owned a 120 back in the early 90's and can honestly say it was one of the most entertaining cars I've ever owned - I loved it. I especially loved its eccentricity and the fact it was derided by just about everone else on the road. I guess I enjoyed being a non-conformist, it said somthing about my personality, and that is one of the elements that has led me to owning a Skoda today. I actually feel a little cheated now that Skoda have become mainstream and the Fabia is really just another eurobox clone - the badge just doesn't create a reaction any more - I doubt my next modern car will be a Skoda, what's the point?
  22. I've also come close to ordering a set for my Fabia a few times - only me being a tight a*se has prevented me pressing the 'BUY' button! I do think they look the dogs and I'm also a fan of the Euro look surrounds. I've had a set on my Audi Coupe for a number of years now and never had an issue with the police or the MoT and I've got the 'D' German identifier on the front plate. I've also had the black and silver plates on my VW bus for the past 10 years - again without issue. They are legal only on vehicles first registered before Jan 1973 and my Bus is a (June) '73 on an L plate - man I'm bad!!!
  23. This is the thread you need http://www.briskoda.net/forums/fabia/fabia-electrical-help-needed/35460/. I had the same issue as yourself couple of weeks back, the above thread was spot on. Access to the offending conector is awkward and must be approached from beneath with the car raised. I did mine at my brothers garage on a 2 poster but even then found it quite tricky to get in with a soldering iron. HTH.
