  3. 3. ABS was more than I want to take on again. The part was all but impossible to trace, but using various sites I tracked down what at the time seemed to be the only one available at the time. I checked EBAY, posted requests to breakers without a positive indication that what I would be sent would be right. Advised NOT to send ABS unit away for fixing as may never see it again; there are some cunning people out there. Finally after just about to give up following hour upon hour of research I tracked one down with 14 days of warranty 4 miles away. Local mechanic despatched at a cost of £275. Fitting and and MOT was another £141 ,plus the initial diagnosis of £94. I'd already spent lots elsewhere. All fixed, lovely ABS, ASR and EM leds all gone. Thankfully I found a really decent mechanic who want to fix it ,not just tell me it was faulty. In a word, lots of emails, money, time and research will get it fixed. 8. Thanks, but there is no price on for it. 13. I'd like to see it right, but at the right price only. Derri

  5. The VCDS-Lite arrived from Ebay seller and works a treat. Exactly the same codes as stated by garage. 18061 P1653 Please check DTC Memory of ABS Controller etc & 00290 ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Left (G46) 30-00 - Open or Short to Plus I've been told after extensive garage checking it is not a new sensor so looks like an expensive one. :'(

  7. I dare not check at present water leak just yet. I have another problem to add to the growing list, the 9 LED bulb/light at the front is flickering on one side. Only yesterday I spent hours and 2 new tork screwdrivers trying to fit main bulb correctly and dropping spring clip down the front...eventually recovered it, but it's a very poor fit.

  9. My error. I do have a hatchback not a saloon. I spend so many hours looking at the dashboard I don't have time to venture round the back. :(

  11. whoops The appeal of the new dust caps will be somewhat reduced by the fact I only own 2 wheel trims though.
  12. My new Skoda badged dust caps arrived today, a little treat for Fabia. The appeal of the new dust caps will be somewhat reduced by the fact I only own wheel trims though. I've started to gaze at the side of the roads for a decent set of replacements ...not.
  13. All Thanks for all that info, I'll at least give it a go. I started reading car mechanics a while back too, just realised I perhaps should have read some of them a little deeper. Derri
  14. Not like me at all, but I bought one from Ebay. Temptation, something I can never resist. I will let you know how well I perform with new faggled gadget.
  15. Hi RIO or other, Does this £15 item from EBAY really show the problems. I thought it was just the cable I was buying. Is there no hidden catch, like buying a license or something additional? If not I'll be adding to a growing list of tools required to own a Skoda  Thanks
  16. Thanks for that. Anyone near Plymouth or the eastern side of Coventry?
  17. Friends, Romans, Skoda people lend me your thoughts. :'( I'm trying to gradually work through my long, long list of problems with my 2004 Tdi Fabia Saloon/hatch back. Now on the ABS. I've read countless pointers to the solutions to the ABS warning light on the dashboard. The ABS is accompanied by engine management and the one beteween the 2 lights. So far I've, removed fuse 6 on the battery cover, gave this a very good clean with emery paper. Found the ABS bits under the bonnet on the on the near side and off side. All looks ok. I've waggled the wire around nearby. I've had the ABS light put on a 'machine' and had the off side rear sensor replaced; still causing an issue; and removed. The BIG Skoda garage want to charge £50 + VAT just to check using their 'magic machine'. The BIG Skoda garage will then replace every item possbible causing the problem until they run out of ideas and maybe costing me 1000's of £'s. Can anyone help solve? It would be nice to move on to the easier bits on my list. Many thanks in advance. All advice welcome.
  18. Battery at least appears to have solved the PAS issue for the moment. ABS still a major thorn. Maybe I should raise a request for help on here.
  19. From my too brief experience you NEED to check a number of dashboard lights before committing any cash. Check the ABS and PAS lights when starting the car. I'm on first name terms with my own ABS and PAS warning lights. They are somewhat troublesome. I hope this helps
  20. New battery in place today as I only just got it started this morning on the very last throw of the dice. I'll keep you posted.
