  1. Do you still have the car for sale? My son fancies a vRS and noticed this one.
  2. Do you think that the leader of the previous administration would not have gone if he had still been in power? Does it not occur to you that the Labour government put this country in such a **** state that the present coalition (and countless Tory governments in the past) have to take drastic measures which make virtually every citizen worse off to try and get the economy back in a decent shape.
  3. David cameron instigated a 5% wage cut for coalition ministers when he came into office, that's £7500 per annum less than the destroyer of Britain that preceded him. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/7719739/Coalition-Government-David-Cameron-announces-pay-cut-for-ministers.html
  4. Well after almost five years of driving Octavia vRS's it's time to say goodbye. I've been getting more and more fed up having a 200bhp car that I can only really boot up motorway slip roads, and that, to be honest, drives me rather than me driving it. I wasn't planning on changing my car until next March, but last weekend I fell in love with a new car, got made an offer I couldn't understand, and I pick up my new car this afternoon. It's not fast, but crucially, it needs driven and has no driver aids except ABS. So it's goodbye to The Thrustmeister and hello to a world of perms and shampoo and sets. Yes, I'm getting an MX5, a 1.8 20th anniversary limited edition in pearlescent white and I can't bloody wait!!
  5. When I was negotiating to buy my current car at the end of 2007, I got exact book price for my car, the chap I was dealing with showed me the book, and for a 2005 Octavia vRS with 35000miles he gave me the exact price. With hindsight I should have checked Parkers and What Car
  6. I would expect them to be offering less than a dealer would give, seems to me to be a last resort option for selling a car.
  7. Just to add to this thread, my son has just traded his in after three years, the car cost a baw hair under £7000 new, got £4000 back as a trade in, and it was, shall we say, well used. This wasn't an inflated price either as we still got a reasonable discount off his new car.
  8. Hmm I thought that was quite a high trade in value, I'm sure I got offered less than £12K back last summer when I was half thinking about a new Superb. Perhaps prices have strengthened since then (or I was getting a damn good shafting from the dealer).
  9. Was browsing the magazine at the supermarket the other day and as they were a bit **** I thought I'd have a look in Parkers at the value of my car. For an Octavia vRS, proper fuel, 08/08, they had the price up around £12K. What Car had the price around £9K. This is a big difference so which is correct? Or are they both wrong? If any dealers interested in giving an idea of what they would offer using the information which is not avilable to the general public this would be much appreciated. Just to note after some discussion with the Mods, I am not trying to sell my car on Briskoda whilst not a Freedom member, I'm just curious as to how accurate the price guides available to the public are.
  10. A speedometer cannot be spot on all of the time unless regularly calibrated to take into account the effect of tyre wear, as was the case with calibrated speedometers in police cars which were calibrated on a weekly basis and checked against a certified stopwatch every shift. Are you suggesting that you get this done every thousand miles or so or that you had it done once and it read correctly at that time?
  11. Have a look at the price quoted on Drive the Deal and use this as the best price you could hope to get. If a dealer gets close to this price you are doing well. Chathams over the water at Halbeath were within £200 of the DTD price when I got my latest car, and the service they provide is second to none. DtD prices Elegance £13243 saving £3115 SE £12401 saving £2882 These prices are before any options added.
  12. Over the past week I've spotted a 1974 Hillman Avenger, a 1982 Metro and an absolutely minted 1988 XJS convertible. The Avenger being the rarest of the bunch I think.
  13. ;)If she's come out in a rasher, tell her to rub some oinkment in......;) But to be serious, a colleagues wife got it a couple of days before they were due to fly to Mexico, of all places, she seemed to be no more ill than if she had a cold. It only appears to be serious if the person has some underlying health issue and is unable to fight off the virus. I'm sure she will be fine soon.

  18. My first job at the tender age of 16 was as an apprentice with ICI. One of the biggest companies in the UK and now virtually non-existant.
  19. Not too far away (about 45mins drive) The Falkirk Wheel : book tickets online now : a great day out in central Scotland
  20. When I bought my car the free servicing offer was on, but I never received any correspondance from Skoda to confirm it. The salesman from the dealers chased them up, but still no joy. Is it just a case of showing up at the dealers when the car is due and it will appear on their system as free or is it likely to be a hassle trying to convince them the car is on free servicing?
  21. A.B.PERFORMANCE MOTORS : SKODA OCTAVIA VRS FSI TURBO I wonder if they have got the price wrong:confused:
