  1. Posted my goodbye yesterday and now driving a Golf 1.6TDi with DSG. It is Match Edition spec and is my first ever diesel in over 50 years driving. My 2 Octy's were fairly trouble free but no longer need the space for SWMBO and me. Time will tell if Golf will be equally reliable & trouble free. CarWow quoted some good deals but didn't fancy the wait again for a factory order so got an excellent deal on a demo with only 2k on the clock. Will have to register with VW forum.
  2. Today took delivery of a VW Golf Mk7 1.6TDi with DSG and said goodbye to the Octy. Thanks for the advice & help from fellow Briskodians whilst owning an Octy 2 & Octy 3. Will still keep an eye on the forums and best wishes to all.
  3. Mine is due for a service around the 22nd Sept and a couple of weeks ago maxidot started to show a countdown of days to an oil change. When that got to zero every time you start up or turn ignition off you get a "bong" chime and the screen shows oil change now. Tried to stop that but didn't work. Gets on your nerves a bit.
  4. Was interested to see you got brake fluid changed for free. My Octy is due for it's third free service in a couple of months and wondered if it included brake fluid. Have done just under 23k and changed front tyres recently but rears are fine. My biggest disappointment was the trade in value I was recently offered by 2 dealers so decided to hang on for another year as I did take out an extended warranty in case of any DSG problems.
  5. Both my Octy2's have been 1.4TSi Elegance models with DSG and I have been very satisfied with both. No problems apart from a couple of little niggles that were put right under warranty - nothing engine or gearbox problem though. Just been looking to change and surprised at the really poor trade in value so intend keeping it for a while longer.
  6. The dealer can check the factory system, but until the code changes on there you can't get a confirmed build week. I don't recall the codes but if you check previous posts you will see what they are. Once built you can also get details of the shipment date and what ship it will be on. Then you can check port movements and track the ship. I did all of that and a bit sad I know but what the heck!!
  7. Can only speak about my friend's Passat, but he has it positioned in the shaded area at top of screen and has used it for 3 years without any problems. His system only recognises French tolls even though he drives through France to Spain. Maybe there are some that can be used in both countries.
  8. When my Octy was new I got the same effect on the front wipers. I used a couple of glass cleaners which didn't help. Finally used the old fashioned water with a bit of white vinegar solution and hey presto no problem since. You might find that will stop the wipers crashing into the bodywork as mine did on the A pillar. The circles on the glass might be where labels etc have been stuck. Cleaning usually gets rid of those also.
  9. Third paragraph of the original post the dealership was named!!!
  10. Also just watched the video - "SKODA simply clever"!!!!!!!!! Hope I never have to get access to the fuses. Some of the pushing & clicking I am sure the plastic clips would snap off if I tried it.
  11. My Octy 2 was 3 years old when I traded it for my Octy 3 and it is 3 years old in Sept. Not had any major issues and never had to use warranty. Some owners have had problems, but with mass produced things you will get problems from time to time. You can download the handbook online and check what the warranty covers.
  12. Just had to change my mobile phone and it connects and syncs the contacts to the car, but previously contacts were shown on maxidot also. Now contacts don't appear on maxidot - any ideas how to get them to show. Also only numbers now appear and not names on infotainment screen. Manual hasn't helped so any help would be appreciated.
  13. Many shops do refunds - so take it back get a refund then buy it again but in the sale. I've done that with no problems, but cars of course are a different matter.
  14. I doubt they would offer the 0% on orders outside the dates they quote in the offer, but have you contacted them to ask? Like you it does seem unrealistic with about a 12 week wait from factory order to registering that anyone would qualify. Anyone ordering a car already built on stock would qualify, so maybe they are trying to offload too many that are on stock lists.
  15. Seems a bit extreme - just how bad is the wind noise? I had problems with the Octy 2 but not on the Octy 3, the shut lines are pretty good.
  16. Frozen fuel cap - get your wallet out and use an old plastic card. Takes a bit longer but still works, unless of course your wallet is frozen solid!!!!
  17. Any sort of loyalty card ties you into the people issueing it. If you get servicing by an indy at a cheaper rate you might as well shred the card. These sort of cards don't in my view reward "loyalty" they are just a way of tying your hands. If there is some sort of cooling off period I would ditch it.
  18. Are you going into the dealership to point out the error of their ways? Given the poor workmanship and your inconvenience perhaps there may be some gesture of goodwill from them. Plus it will be documented in case of a failure in the future due to their covering the cable with the carpet.
  19. I think you have your answer from the previous 2 replies, but to add a third mine also has saved me a couple of times and it just returned to normal operation without any need for calibration. Yet another dealer not knowing about their product. You could let Skoda UK know what the dealer has said and let the dealer know what you have done - that will focus their minds.
  20. Same here but not quite as bad as the Octy2. Before I open the hatch if there is quite a bit of standing water on it I just sweep it off with my hand. Better a wet hand than a car full of water. Poor design but hey ho still like the car.
  21. Well not all. The one on my car is completely straight with no twist in it nor does it have a clip at the top as mentioned by blackbart. Just pushes into dipstick hole. Looks like Skoda put whatever type they have laying about the factory!!
  22. Wouldn't go anywhere without my Möbius switched on. Best £69 ever spent. Size of a matchbox & fits nicely behind mirror. With her VRM put about your mates no doubt someone would know her. A knock on her front door & show her the footage might have been enough for her to cough up for the damage rather than "plod" possibly seeing it.
  23. Been posted many times and when they are replaced under warranty they go the same way. Was like it on my Octy2 and same on the Octy3. I guess the answer is to live with it as Skoda don't seem to be able or want to solve it by fitting superior quality ones. By way of comparison a friend has a Passat now 2 years old and not a hint of this, so looks like the old adage "you get what you pay for", but I won't be shelling out what he paid for his and will live with this minor imperfection.
  24. Needed a litre bottle of oil to top up & got one at Tesco this morning for £9.50. Castrol Edge 5w30 suitable for VW504/VW507. Not sure if national deal but not bad value.
