New vRS owner, tyre advice needed
DbD replied to MattyD's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Use goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 2's as well, great tyres. -
Wife is 5'2" and drives our VRS all the time with no problems.

Got a black VRS, looks great as the fixed colour stuff (chrome bits, lights, break callipers, etc) contrast very nicely with black. Imo doesn't show dirt up more then any other colour. My one tip is paint is very soft when hot. Sun on black paint heats it up pretty easily. If you try to wash it then you will scratch it.

Really? That's counter intuitive? If the back blows out then I would have thought the car will keep going in approximately the same direction because it's getting pulled forwards by the fronts, if the front blows out then you've got one tyre pulling and the other not doing a lot so I'd have thought you'd swerve off the road without some pretty fast correction. Equally if you loose a front then you've both lost a lot of braking and the brake balance will be badly off due to each front tyre providing say 40% of braking (so say right front blows out and you hit the brakes then the left side has about 5 times the braking force of the right). Hence hit the brakes and I'd expect it would swerve hard.

Yesterdays news said petrol sales up 172%, diesel sales up 77% so a lot more panic buying petrol then diesel for a strike that can't happen without a weeks notice.
-
Ah just filled in this poll the other day and then got my first "issue" - exhaust warning light has come on, still goes fine but into dealer tomorrow to get it checked out :(
-
Had asymmetric 2's on the front for the last few months. Very happy with them - grip and handling is fine although I don't rag it around test tracks so not really taken them to the limit, wear is good. Most noticeable difference is the ride is more cushioned then it was on the conty 2's that came with the car.

There not the same size, rears are smaller. You want this thread here: http://www.briskoda....s-speaker-sizes This is what I did: http://www.briskoda....-octavia-fl-vrs

First Service costs on Variable Servicing
DbD replied to ChrisRs's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
£200 from blades skoda in bristol for 18,000 mile variable service. Felt it was expensive, although they were friendly, did wash and valet the car and I got a courtesy car. -
227mph at Bonneville.....................Pah!
DbD replied to Brimma's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
You are all making me so jealous - I've only managed about 210mph pushing it as hard as I could. I think I might have to get back in and drive again - this get fit quick new years resolution is doing my head in. -
It's not the head unit - it's the speakers. Pioneer ones work well: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/182498-replaced-speakers-in-octavia-fl-vrs/

A gentle tumble would probably have split it and then I would have had a tumble drier full of very fine sand. In the end I gave up and got one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pingi-Rechargeable-Dehumidifier-moisture-caravan/dp/B003FTH8DU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1325609275&sr=8-3 It's a bit smaller (450G) so needs recharged more often but that's so much easier as you can just stick it in the microwave for a few minutes
-
I had that happen once, it was working again the next day and has not happened again. I suspect something in there got a bit damp. Wax the car occasionally which has probably helped waterproof them a bit so perhaps that's why it hasn't happened since.

Stuck it in the microwave for a few minutes. That obviously caused it to get hot which I think started to melt the glue holding the bag together as bag split on one edge. Glad I didn't put it in tumber dryer or I'd have had a right mess. In the end poured the contents (which look like fine sand) into a big microwave proof container and microwaved for 30 mins. That did the trick. Just got to get it back in the bag and shut it again :S
