  1. I may have missed it but what’s the mileage? is the damage referred to on the driver’s side rear just in front of the light cluster? Any other damage? cheers
  2. Thanks for the replies, useful stuff. Dealer never responded and I didn’t carry out my earlier threat (2 very young kids, both ill recently and many more pressing things to do). I’m considering my next move but meanwhile does anyone have the number for the breakdown service under the approved used scheme in case the dealer continues to refuse/fail to respond to me? I should probably just phone Skoda headoffice about this, but I only seem to get round to these matters late at night when skoda ho won’t be answering. cheers
  3. Not sure if this is in the right section but I couldn't find anywhere better to put it... It also goes on a bit so I hope you'll bear with me. May 2018 I bought a roughly 2.5 year old approved used Superb 2.0 TDI SE Business Estate from a Skoda main dealer. As part of the sales process, I query the length of warranty with the car because the dealership website said all used approved came with a minimum of 12 months warranty. I also say that it makes no sense for them to sell a 4 year old car with a 12 month used approved warranty, but a 2.5 year old car with only the 6 months remaining on the manufacturer's warranty. Long story short, they agree to 'top up' the warranty to 12 months in total and I stress that this is a crucial element of me deciding to buy. On collection day, when I ask for the documents for the tail end of the warranty (the 'topped up' bit), salesman says "I'm just waiting on something from the sales manager for that, I'll send it on to you..." I chase this up in a couple of emails and while in the dealership having some warranty work done (which should have been picked up before I collected the car but that's another matter). Salesman isn't in on the day I call in (and I'm not local to the dealers) but one of his colleagues says they'll pass a message on. I hear nothing and there is no reply to any emails. I'm now getting towards the end of the manufacturer's warranty. I have a single slip of paper from the pile of 'bumph' I got on collection which refers to a used car warranty but it's literally a tick in a box on a sheet of paper with few words and no detail. I have no Ts and Cs about what the warranty covers or what its terms are and how I comply with it. I've emailed asking for detail within 7 days and don't plan to ask again. They've had several opportunities to respond. I'm now considering buying the extended manufacturer's warranty then claiming pro rata from the dealer for the period over which I should already have their used car warranty as part of my purchase of the car. This may involve issuing a claim in the county court. I'd rather not but will if I have to. That bit doesn't worry me although I've better things to do. Meanwhile, it may be useful to know a little more about used approved warranties. Is it usual to get some form of pack or other written info with Ts and Cs etc? More generally, is there any difference in cost if I were to buy the extended manufacturer's warranty a few days after the original 3 year warranty ended (it ends just before Christmas and I know I'll be as busy as hell with 2 young kids and also don't want to buy that in case the dealer actually gets back to me with the info concerned). I'm also wondering what the position would be once the dealer supplied 12 month warranty ends - ie 6 months after the manufacturer's warranty expires - again will it be dearer to buy then than just before the manufacturer's warranty expires? The skoda website doesn't appear to cater for this scenario. Any words of wisdom from the collective?
  4. Is this as likely to clog up, as DPFs are sometimes reported to do, on short journeys and/or in stop/start traffic too? Is this just Skoda or every manufacturer? I know I should Dave Google it, but you (bigjohn) seem to know the craic about this already ...
  5. Bought a service plan from Eardleys for my 10 plate Fabia 1.2 TSI SE in July 2012. Had to badger Stoke to get them to give me any info about the service plan (both Crewe and Stoke Eardleys previously ignored emails) and then the chap in the showroom (I think I decided to go in as I was sick of waiting for a reply) gave the impression he'd never heard of, let alone sold, a service plan before. He then gave me misleading and/or conflicting info and seemed totally unsure of himself. He was no spring chicken and seemed to have worked there a while. He also indicated it was necessary to wait around 3 weeks for the plan to be registered (or something along those lines) before the first service could be done - slight pain as I needed the service fairly sharpish. The whole thing was a bit of a farce for what should (I would have thought) be pretty easy. Even paying for it was a rigmarole as I recall. I should have just left and gone elsewhere, but Crewe had seemed even more 'half arsed' in my limited dealings with them and I wanted a main dealer stamp (not sure why - no-one seems to care much these days), so after half an hour or more of this, I bought the plan just to be done with it. On one of the services, I went out of my way to avoid having a courtesy car as I worked fairly locally at the time. When I phoned to ask if it was ready to collect, I was told the service team were going in to a meeting soon, so it would help if I got there sooner (than they'd mentioned in the morning when I dropped the car off). I changed plans and left work early to get there sooner as requested and - you've guessed it - "it's not ready yet, sir". When I queried how it could not be ready because the service team should by that time be in their urgent and very important meeting, I can't remember what the reply was but I'm fairly sure it smelled a bit. Another half hour or more wait. I've just realised that they haven't done all the work they should have done on the 2 services - they haven't cleaned the rear drum brakes on either service. I now need another service plan. Eardleys emailed me on Sunday saying a service was due and to get in touch. I emailed them Monday - no reply. I sent an enquiry via their web enquiry thingy (which I think claims they'll get back to you in 24 hours) on their website yesterday lunchtime - no reply. They now only have an 0843 number and I can only contact them on a mobile (I work out of the area now) so I'm reluctant to make a call which won't come out of my allowance and may cost me £4 or £5 by the time they put me on hold and arse around for a while, particularly when I've already emailed them twice. Their service plan looks reasonable value on their website at £299 for 2 services / 20,000 miles. However, just typing this has reminded me that most of my dealings with them have been a PITA, so I think it's off to a local independent for me. I'll ask Eardleys to do the drum brakes that they should have done (and have been paid for through the plan), but otherwise, I don't think I'll bother with them. I'm thinking of trading up to an Octy VRS, but don't think I'll trouble them with that either.
  6. still interested, but still need detailed info re clearing finance as per earlier PMs / emails ...
  7. maybe a bit older than you are after, but maybe a lot less moolah as well, for a similar "I'm a hairdresser" effect Nowt to do with me btw. http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249607
  8. I should probably venture in to one of the specific sub threads, but folks seem helpful in here I've had a search on the fabia section, but can't find the answer. Also how come the Fabia I sections says that it doesn't include the new 2007 Fabia, but the VRS SE (which was a 2007 car) register is in there ? Easy enough questions for knowledgeable types: Was cruise control standard on the Fabia VRS SE ? What are the service intervals on the same car (and does Skoda require/recommend an annual service in addition if the scheduled service mileage is not achieved within 12 months ?
  9. cheers Davy. Are you Wavy by the way (hiya !) ? You're probably too young to remember the character wavy davy in Vic Reeves Big Night Out off of the 80s - if your username includes your year of birth. Loving the reference to 90.5bhp and yer (go faster ?) stickers. That 0.5 bhp must make all the difference. Jealous of you living in Embry as well - beeyootiful city imho
  10. cheers you are clearly a speed demon judging by yer car tweaks and bike. I also have a BMW R1100GS - quicker than you might think, handling is great and I loikes it a lot, but a bit agricultural compared to your pointy noisey (just a guess?) green (another guess) beastie. Neeeyoooooorrrrrrrr
  11. Hello Skoda peeps Been browsing a short while. On the lookout for a 58+ Octavia VRS petrol in blue with cruise and climate or (perhaps more likely as a bit less moolah, although also more scarce) a Fabia VRS SE. I don't do the miles to justify a diesel, but bearing in mind there is no petrol variant of the Fabia VRS SE, and everything I read is pretty favourable and it should be pretty cheap to run, that's what I have my eye on at the mo' ... Currently got some motybikes and a 99 Primera GT LE with less than 70k miles which is a belter of a car, but fancy a 4 wheeler that's a bit newer. Top o' the mornin to yiz
