  1. Hi Face lift, I'm in Dublin i went to the one on the greenhills road, Cullens i think!!! Walkinstown end, D12
  2. Hi Adam, Pull the coresponding fuse first, could be the instrument cluster. See my "Fuse panel layout" post. Rory
  3. HI teflon Tom, I have checked the sticker it says DGL. and is 5 speed. Will this fit???? Again, your help is greatly appreciated, Cheers Rory
  4. Hi Rossy 1260. Did you fix this? Does the CD work? Is it just a poor radio signal? if it's not the fuse in the fuse panel, there could be a fuse in the back of the Radio/Cd unit or even a fuse on the live wire, itself. if it comes on and plays CD's but no radio that is because when you fit an aftermarket Stereo unit you need an Din adapter for the ariel. The original unit feeds the ariel with a12v charge.
  5. Hi Guys, I was looking for a fuse panel layout diagram on line to no avail. I got the Haynes manual but the one pictured is for a left hand drive model (annoying) I read one tip saying to shine a torch and look at the image from the back!! So i made this. It might come in useful. Cheers
  6. I just checked the haynes manual and it doesnt give the torque setting. I'd imagine that the torque settings come on your new track rod ends . But i did find this that might be useful My link Rory
  7. Dont use it!!! I lost my coffee cornering at 25ish !!!i heard it tumble in the back !! Doh Luckily my coffee was in a travel cup, didn't spill all over the place. i immediatley pulled in and rescued it then gave the footwell mat a good bang on the road. Now, I hook my coffee on the drivers side door panel. Push it forward incase you have to break sharpley. less distance to travel. Rory
  8. I have just had the same problem, but rear drivers side, snapped cable!! I rang Skoda in Ireland they said no parts just new regulator €100 ish, a bit stiff!! I bought one in a breakers yard trying to save a few quid,( €50 )broke one of the plastic clips that holds the clamp bracket in place, NIGHTMARE. Ended up taking them both apart and making one good one. but it was really difficult to get all the bits in place. i cant imagine that the window regulator repair kits are too easy to use as they come with no instructions. regulator kit I am going to repair the broken one and sell it on gumtree or ebay. i'll make a vid or tutorial for it, see how it goes!! Rory
  9. Hi Timewarp, I think Wigits right. Anti roll bar bushes. I changed mine last week, no knocking now. €8 the pair at my local motor factors. just check whether 21 or 23 mm required. Easy fit if you have axle stands a 13mm socket and maybe a 17mm to undo one of the stabilisers for access. Try that first. Rory
  10. Hi RWBaldwin, Yep i refitted it correctly. I swapped the whole unit with a working one and that never worked, but when i put that one back into its original it worked. lead me to think it was a wire ??? chased them back to the dash and found no problems. The big arrow points toward the boot space. Whe i put my spare back into it's original, it worked fine. leads me to think it is a wire. gonna try the a float device tomorrow, see how that goes, keep ya posted. Rory
  11. Hi Yashicamat, I emptyed the pump and disconected the fuel lines to withdraw the pump and sender unit. I plugged in the electrics and and moved the float arm up and down and got good readings on the clocks. I then tied a string to the float arm, submerged the pump and connected the fuel lines and ran the car, pulling the string up to see if the reading changed. and it did????? I chased the loom back to the dash and found no abnormalities, breaks in the line bad earth, water damage etc. Puzzled !!!!!!!!!! The guy who ran the diagnostics on my clocks told me about a car that he had seen in the past. after lots of tests and head scratching he secured a small windscreen wash bottle to the float, and hey presto, it worked. I have two octys and i swapped the pump form the other one and that never worked in this car, (The Guage) so i thought it was the clocks or the wiring. I had the clocks checked. perfect. I can't understand why you would get a good reading outside the tank and a negative one in the tank. i'll try a couple of corks and cable ties first and see how that goes, fingers crossed. Rory
  12. Cheers Teflon Tom, rapid reply. I was on to Stevens VW Dismantlers in Chelmsford, but they weren't sure if this would fit? STevens in Chelmsford on Ebay I know the gearbox is different but the block is still the same, right? I fonud a courier who can delever it for €100 to me here in Dublin, just wanted to make sure. The second link that you posted was for an ALM will this do the job? Also i already used the gearbox out of this one so i need a replacement too. I have a golf estate1998 1.4 APQ 5 speed box. will this fit into the octy too? your help is greatly appreciated. Cheers Mate Rory
  13. Halfords have a trolly jack / 2 ton axle stands / crawlboard for €75 euro on the Irish site, maybe £50 STG in the UK, looks like it would do the job. Rory O

  15. Hi Guys, i am new to Briskoda, but have found it very useful when troubleshooting any problems. How to open the dash to swap the heater control switch set. Racing rev counter, new throttle body, etc. But i am having trouble with my fuel sender!!! I swapped the pump and sender unit from a working car, didnt work?? I was convinced that the tank guage on the clock had failed. Got it checked out by Logic Automotive. It's working fine i tested the rheostat on the sender, definitley current ! Today, i took out the pump unit and manually moved the arm up and down, hey presto it works. Conclusion, my float dont!! Anyone come across this before? Or is there a more likley answer? as you cant see into the tank to see if the float, actaully does .
