Are the wishbone ball joints handed? (specific for LHS or RHS) When I ordered some from GSF last year, as far as Im aware they all came with the same part number... Now I realise that there are 2 different part numbers: Right hand ball joint: 1J0 407 366 H Left hand ball joint: 1J0 407 365 H (spot the subtle difference)

I was thinking of doing it to a spare subframe for my Golf - which is the same subframe I think.

8N0199282C Upper mounting bush x 2 (LCR) 8N0199282D Lower mounting bush x 2 (LCR) do these make a noticeable difference? Are they Seat dealer only parts or can you get them elsewhere? How tricky are they to fit to a your subframe (removed from car) ? Ta

Thanks for the help. I ended up using some L-shaped trim removing plastic tools - and even then the lower clip wanted a good fight! I couldnt see in the fading light but Im sure its a bit marked. At least I can get on with the window repair job now... Anyone know the part numbers or have any web links for buying the clips that hold the window glass in place?

How are you meant to get the front passenger door handle off? Im really struggling to see what the trick is without destroying the inner door card :-( Any advice would be really appreciated as the glass in the window has just fallen down and wont wind back up!

Has anyone got a link to photos of the boot lock and the switch that indicates whether the boot is open or closed? The boot sometimes thinks its open and puts the light on, along with the warning lamp on the dash...

I keep thinking about a similar 4x4 diesel conversion. I saw a MK4 golf on ebay a while back that had been modified this way so it has been done! My main concerns are... 1) getting a good diesel engine + gearbox 2) compatibility issues with the electronics, but if you have a complete TDI car as a donor, then everything should be readily available Whats the best MPG that the standard 4x4 can actually get??

some friends of the wife have a mk4 Golf TDI (X-reg) with a knackered (automatic) gearbox. How many variations of the auto gearbox were used with this Golf platform - and how much does a decent box cost? (excluding labour) Theyve been quoted £2k inc labour so far!

oh right, has anyone done a "how to" guide for Octavia/Golf etc? Ive started to take the trim off the door but Ive no idea where the dodgy switch might live?

my "door open" indicator has started to flicker. im guessing its an issue with wiring in the door? is this a common fault? any help appreciated!

+1 for a stock FARB and a whiteline RARB (adjustable). Makes better use of quality tyres, and greater precision when cornering :yes: But crappy tyres and a greasy roundabout can provoke sudden oversteer! Only negative about the whiteline is that its not painted or powder coated.

Youre probably better off getting some well informed legal advice on this! Get an independent engineer to report and verify the cause of engine failure. If they made a mistake on the original engine, are you happy to trust them try and fix things? Why give an incompetent mechanic more of your business - especially if they have quite probably screwed up and lied?

or to put it another way - whats the most expensive weak point for the TDI engine? any help appreciated

Im looking at buying a turbo diesel - but on a limited budget :-( Someone at work is selling a 2002 Mk1 TDI hatchback - Elegance model but Im really after other people's thoughts on this one.. No proper history after approx 35k, now on its 3rd owner and 103k on the clock. It had a £400 recon turbo fitted at 80k... and its apparently had its cam belt done. Also the climate control doesnt blow cold. Condition of bodywork is pretty good (better than my 80k '04 model) and underneath seams better than average. How much is this likely to be worth in todays climate?

Fitted a whiteline Rear ARB - which is adjustable. Noticeable difference on a standard (non VRS) car. But with crap quality summer-only rear tyres fitted it had an interesting tendency to oversteer on damp roundabouts... With Goodyear ultragrips on all 4 corners again it gives a lot of confidence and ive now increased the ARB stiffness setting I dont know how it would behave if I had an uprated front ARB too?? Maybe it would start to understeer again?

Whats the easiest way to get additional wires through the bulkhead from the fusebox area to the engine bay??
