  1. @Damo152003 thanks a lot for the details. I had 2 choices either to go with a 2011 1.2 Tsi SE for £5250 or a 2013 Monte Carlo 1.2 Tsi for £6650 both 105 bhp. The consensus by folk on here is to go for the Monte Carlo
  2. Depends very much on the dealership and the time of the year month. Ideally the end of the month is a good time as they have monthly targets to meet. Also the time just before the new number plate is good as they would be looking to get rid of the old stock. Another good time would be December when they need to make their yearly sales targets I was looking at a fabia 1.2 tsi priced at £5690 and made an offer for £5000. The dealer came down to £5250. This can vary though and you could get more or less depending upon how keen the dealer is to make the sale It's advisable to get the market value of the car you're thinking of going for. The following websites give you a good idea about the value. hpivaluations.com, whatcar.com. Use the value to negotiate with the dealer before making an offer. I have heard that they roughly they have margins of anywhere between 10 to 20% of the cars value. They do have their costs as well so can't blame them too much either. Sometimes they just need to get rid of a car and that's when they'll be willing to come down on the price heavily. It's just a matter of shopping around different dealerships.
  3. @bigjohn do you think it's better to go for the monte carlo due to the chain belt in the 2011
  4. Yes that is a reason, hence I wanted to stick to petrol as well. The 2013 monte carlo is good but the price goes up by £1500 more than the 2011. Should it matter if the dealer is offering a manufacturer/ approved dealer warranty for 1 year, wouldn't that work across dealerships in the country
  5. thanks @Kenrw8, @bigjohn but would that not fall under Euro 6 which means it could be in line for the toxin tax to be imposed on diesels soon
  6. Had my test drive of the 1.2 TSI 105 BHP. The car is refined indeed as mentioned by @bigjohn, gear change is smooth and handling is good. However I did feel it lacks power as told by you lot towards the higher end. It is by no means a bad car as starting off is ok too but maybe its just me after spending many years with my vRS. I have realised that the grunt is important to me and this has left me a tad disappointed. @bigjohn, @istannbullu34 I was in the process of negotiating a deal with a main dealer for a 105 BHP TSI, a 2011 SE model for £5250 but it was a few hours drive from where I live. Hence I decided to go check out a 105 BHP Monte Carlo at my local dealer which was a 2013 version. The price seems good though and as I get a year's warranty I don't think I would like to go for a remap initially. I am now considering my decision regarding a 105 BHP and not sure if I should go for it. I would appreciate any advice from you guys as my budget is around £5500
  7. Its really good to hear all the advice & opinions, thanks a lot guys. Much appreciated...!!! @bigjohn Cheers for the clarification and your detailed posts, I would love to go for the 110 but the budget wouldn't allow for that currently. I might have to change to another one later on @Kenrw8, @Damo152003 thanks for the advice, I thought a remap would cost more on the insurance. Does that not cause any strain on the engine. @Damo152003 I have heard the same about the 85 BHP but from review websites (and also from a couple of posts on this thread) it seems that the 105 BHP would be okay on the motorways. I am going to test drive a 2013 1.2 TSI 105 BHP Monte Carlo tomorrow and will add my feedback on here
  8. Is there much difference between the 104 and 110. Bigjohn, you've got more power in your new superb but if I go down to a 104 tsi from my 130bhp will it be noticeable. @pearce_jj how's it on long drives. Does the power Run out as the revs rise on the tsi, or is it quite steady
  9. Thanks Bigjohn, appreciate your input. I am looking at the 2011 version at a dealer. It's coming with a year's manufacturer warranty, breakdown cover and I have negotiated it down to £5250. Is this a good price
  10. Hi Guys, I have had a Fabia 1.9 VRS Diesel in the past (the old 130 BHP) and I am now thinking of buying a petrol. I have read that the 1.2 TSI 105 BHP is a good option economy and power wise and I have seen that it goes from 0-60 in 10.2s whereas my old fabia was touted as taking 9.5s. Am I going to feel the difference in the BHP too much, is it worth going for this after I have been used to the diesel. Would be great to know if anyone has taken this route and what they think Thanks
  11. That kind of seems like the going rate for a good vRS, in fact its a bit lower. Car's with the same spec are selling for around £2900
  12. Hi Guys, I am thinking of buying a Fabia 1.9 vRS 2006/06 model with 98,000 on the clock from a trade dealer. Its got 2 previous owners & the cam belt & water pump have been done recently. There's no CruiseControl but it has full skoda service history for a price of £2699. Is this a good price. The car is in Birmingham & I need to travel from London so I am wondering if it is worth the time, effort and money. I have had a bad experience with a local trader before so I am a bit sceptical but it seems like a good price for whats on offer. Any advice would be much appreciated. Many Thanks
  13. Thanks for the guidance guys, I have also found out that I need to wait until the coil symbol on the dash goes away before turning the ignition on.
  14. Hi Guys, I have just got my 2006 vRS diesel and wanted to know how long should I warm it up for in the mornings, now that its getting colder. I used to give 2 - 3 mins for my petrol polo and have never used a diesel before. Does it also require a warm up in the evenings after its been in the car park all day. Thanks in advance
  15. Hi Guys, I have just got my Skoda from the main dealer its a 2006 VRS with 47k + miles on the clock for £6700 including the road tax, MOT and a full tank of diesel. Its got cruise control , 6 cd changer & the usual (1 year service & 1 year breakdown). I have tried comparing insurance quotes from various search engines like moneysupermarket, gocompare, comparethemarket, tescocompare and they seem to be averaging around £750 - £780 for the year. One of the reasons I might assume this is high is because I had an accident in 2007 which was not my fault and the other part paid up. I am also trying to protect my No Claims Bonus of 4 years for the first time and have a VW polo 1.4 in my name too. I have tried going up with the excess at 350 but there's not a lot of difference. Are these quote's about right for my case, what is the average price to insure a vRS. Skoda has also given me a quote which is around £730 and they promise to use skoda servicing and repairs. Shall I go for it
  16. Thanks for the input Hewey. I have read elsewhere that lower mileage on an 06 model would mostly mean city driving with lots of start/stop journeys.Lots of people would want the mileage to tally with the age but I personally think yours is a good deal with the mileage and the work done (love the colour, I am looking at a silver metallic). What is your opinion about mine, especially the mileage.
  17. thanks grr666, seems like a great place. You guys have been really informative and a lot helpful. This is much appreciated. My first time hearing about a remap though (pardon me I am just getting into my car jargon), is this something the skoda dealership would do or do you have to go to a skoda expert. Can it go wrong what is the impact on the fuel economy
  18. Thanks scott, isnt that a bit low for the fuel economy on the vRS, I was expecting somewhere around the 48 mark. The dealership it seems are going to change the front tyres on it. Is it worth going for an AA or RAC check on this car, how much would I have to fork out
  19. Thanks a lot guys, these do seem to hold their values really well. cd2010 how many previous owners did yours have. Does the fact that it was a demo car have anything bad against it. They told me that they had it for 6 months during which it did 6000 miles. The owner wanted a bigger model (octavia) so he was selling it back to the dealership Its got a Skoda approved used warranty for 1 year. And no Rob, I havent seen the car yet and have only given a holding deposit I have also done a glass.co.uk valuation on it and it came out to £6070 for a dealer and £5170 for a private buy.
  20. Hi Guys, I am trying to buy a Fabia 1.9 vRS 2006/06 model with 47,000 on the clock from a skoda dealership and have reached a deal on £6700 including a years warranty, breakdown cover and a years road tax. Also they would be throwing in some floormats and a tank of diesel. The model also has CruiseControl & a 6 CD changer fitted and has full skoda service history. It was a demo model but had one owner afterwards. It also had a cambelt change. Is this a good price or am I overpaying Thanks
