  1. Hi Guys, I've gut a 1.9Tdi Ambient e Estate on a 56 plate. It's done 180k miles and is still on the same shocks/springs, I occasionally tow a caravan and get the usual saggy back end. Had a scary wobble last year on the way to Donnington (good be I was overloaded with beer). 1Z5 Variant ACBXE01 Version NFM5FM5A4009N I've been looking to replace all 4 shocks and springs but am unsure of the correct parts. I got some keen prices for KYB's but see differing part numbers and sizes for my car. Excel-G shocks Rear 344459 Front 334834 22/50mm dia Front 335808 25/55mm dia K-Flex Springs RH6788 L=631 x D=113 x OD11.75 Rear RH1713 L=346 x D=146 x OD 12.25 Front RH6789 L=325 x D=111 x OD 12.5 Front I would mind a heavy duty set up on the back for towing or perhaps some kind of spring assisters removable or permanent. My local dealership won't tell me the correct parts (so they can get me to order through them no doubt) Anyone
  2. Being an ex postie, I've always used Britannia great service and price.
  3. Just to change my coolant due to my forthcoming ski trip........just checked the annual report July 2010 which says coolant -46C. sounds very low but if true, good for me.
  4. Hi and welcome, I too went through this and plumped for 1.9 ambiente. 56 plate estate from BCA car auctions (sites all about the uk, internet bidding too). Does seem a little weedy on occasion but unless you're a speed freak it's absolutely fine. I do about 25k miles a year and am a tight @rse so the near 55-60mpg ,£110 tax and £100 cheaper insurance are a major plus to me. All the toys with the higher spec models are a real plus, but not a necessary IMHO as most cars have decent specs. As for the 2.0 and I'm no expert, I think there are some issues with the dual mass flywheel and also the drive on the balancer shafts. But it's not that common. As with most internet forums people tend to highlight the bad bits. Most of the Octy's I saw on fleebay where dealers. Have a look on British Car Auctions site, they usually have about 50 diesel Octy's nation wide and a couple of sites not too far from you, they can deliver too. With your budget you should pick up a stunning late model.
  5. I must say after buying my 56 Octy from auction how suprised I was at how strong the prices were compared to Maxda 6's, Avensis etc. But not much can touch the Octy in it's class for fuel economy, so in this trubled economic times it's no wonder really.
  6. Just a thought, is it not illegal to run 2 different tyre sizes on the same axel as would be the case of these space saver wheels?
  7. Is there a legal requirement to carry snow chains in certain countries and would snow socks be acceptable
  8. Really looking forward to this, we're taking the chunnel, then driving through france into Switzerland then to Livigno in Italy. I understand there a car train through a part of the alps. Any recommendations on prepping my car, what antifreeze and screen wash would be best and mixed at what ratios. Anyone got a spare warning triangle, mines not there :S I'd like an original, but might have to settle for a different one.
  9. Is VCDS a matter of a laptop, software and an interface?
  10. Take a sickie or take holiday or unpaid leave, just think of home much money you'll save. Or pop down to Bedford on Saturday morning to view the cars, then bid live via the interweb.
  11. Jumbo box..yes please. H/U = head unit? Have a pod, thinking of using one of those little transmitter/chargers that plug in. My head unit say MP3 Stream? anything useful? Never use cruise on my V40....tended to use more fuel and roads never clear enough just to leave it on. But if it's simple I might just try it.
  12. Hey there, I'm in Norfolk too. Just picked my Octy for a decent price from auction. www.british-car-auctions.co.uk they can deliver too saved a fair bit too and in the weeks before Christmas prices can drop. Over 50 Octy's at various locations.
  13. I'd like to fit fog lights and a better centre console with armrest and storage. Any ideas?
  14. It's done 90k, has fsh, 1 fleet owner, mot 09/11. Very good clean car. All in cost me just over £4200. I guess I've saved about £500 - £1800 depending on which prices you look at. 5 octys to chose from, the elegance sold for £4650.
  15. Hi Guys, I'm off skiing in the Italian Alps this winter, anyone got any advice on car preparation for the trip. Or what, leagally I need to know about driving in France, Switzerland and Italy, bulbs, snow chains, hi vis jackets etc. Thanks.
  16. Just got myself a 56 plate, Octavia estate 1.9tdi. I'll try to post some pictures, but I always have issues. Looking forward to getting more than 33mpg that I get from my V40. I was after an Elegance, but as I was buying from auction so beggers can't be choosers. There was an Elegance there but my Ambient was so much better, better tyres, nicer wheels, newer, longer MoT, better condtion, better colour and nicer beige interior. It has parking sensors too. Are there any easy mods that can be done to improve the spec further? I'd like to add front fogs and perhaps improve the interior trim. Anyone recommend me anything. Cheers BBD.

  20. I clicked the photo, then I saw there was another for sale at the bottom of your post, I clicked the photo, then I saw there was another for sale at the bottom of your post, I clicked the photo, then I saw there was another for sale at the bottom of your post, I clicked the photo, then I saw there was another for sale at the bottom of your post, I clicked the photo, then I saw there was another for sale at the bottom of your post,....I felt like Bill Murray in Groundhog day. Unless you're selling an infinate amount of cars. :p I've read the sticky thread on water ingress. If a buy a Superb I my look at a more permanent solition than a tube of silcon. Anyone else tried this?
  21. Thanks Roto, I know this is hijacking the thread, but rather than starting a similar one I thought I'd tag a few questions here. From what I can see Octy's never can with the 130 1.9PD...is this the case (I know this is a Superb section) I see that a 2.0 CR engine is available....any better? Before driving half way round the country looking at Superb's apart from the usual questions are there any specific things I should be asking? Were there any updates, I might be looking for a lower millage older model rather than a newer higher milage one within my budget.
