  1. Plenty of warm/hot start threads just picked this one to add my experience for those reading for solutions. reading the various threads pointed to the battery being a good candidate due to its age. 50k 2008 1.9 original Varta battery the annual checks have show cranking amps dropping off for the last 4 years. Not used much since March(lockdown) dropped the ctek on for some longer periods of non use. getting the warm start issue when started using it again, battery check showed it had dropped to 350A(June last year 390A) voltage OK 12.3v It sounded like it was cranking OK but nothing, which checks with the no fuel cut off. Swapped in a Varta e44 and that seems to have fixed the issue for the few runs done, hopefully none of the more expensive faults kick in. This winter would have probably killed the old battery anyway, surprised it lasted this long.
  2. The gunk no good as the valve has split, was a recovery job at night Time to get a spare wheel kit. car has 205/55/16 on it (08 Elegance) so think I should prefer a 16" spare over the 15" What's the going rate for these. seems they were around £130 in 2013. In the Bucks area anyone local know if it it worth giving ASM in Aylesbury a go or just head to the Skoda dealer.
  3. To keep your batteries tip top condition. Spash out on a Ctek charger the 5amp has been around £50 through amazon http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/search?sq=ctek or wait for the lidl/aldi equivilents usualy <£15 http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/car-battery-charger-13-99-lidl-from-17th-january-1441348 http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/aldi-12v-6v-battery-charger-4th-october-13-99-1327127
  4. THanks guys booked for next week direct line(£75) so autoglass There are a few threads covering varios points and suppliers.Looks like the key things are,Alignment, sensors, clip, protecting the rest of the car.Query under cover(they did not ask) Its been ok for the 30k it has done no chips but this is a bit more than a chip.Quite a scare seeing something coming towards you in the dark at 70
  5. Thanks that was the plan it has been ok in the past on previous vehicles allthough the last repair on a side window I did myself with part from the scrappers cheaper than the excess. I seem to remember someone having an issue getting one done so was going to search to check what I need to look out for.
  6. Will be having a search when ihave calmed down, Just had my windscreen taken out by something big, thrown up from a car in front or lost from the car. A nice big circular chunk 4"-6" removed from the top laminate with a perfect circle untouched in the middle. Its too dark to have a proper look at the rest of the car I think it missed the bodywork. Elegance 08, anything to look out for in getting it replaced, we have the rain and light sensors.
  7. mytyres have different prices for each region links(flags) at bottom of the page http://www.reifendirekt.de/
  8. When I had these in mind(till we ruled out saloon) last year the dealers were asking around £6k allthough the were not 2.5. only 2 came up at that time. .
  9. There is similar in the for sale section so that could be a comparitor on spec and price(not local).
  10. On this list to get something for my 08 hatch Anywhere near Bucks for collection.
  11. £7k is probably OK-good the cheapest(08/30k-40k) when I was looking last year was around £8k . autotrader <40k elegance 1.9 dsg not much under £8k still. cam belt should have been done might be at the back of the service book if not in the regular service bit. DSG oil due soon probably should have had a brake fluid change. If its not had tyres changed they might be getting low. Check the rear washer is working and not pumping into the boot.
  12. I went to recheck the mytyres prices and somehow it came up with euro. the prices were cheaper about £25 for the set I was looking at. this delivery in germany only but thye have other EU sites so if traveling it may be worth looking at the prices where you are going just in case there are savings. list of international sites. http://www.reifendirekt.de/Auslandsversand.html
  13. Been thinking about going to winters This seems a good price can't see the £81.60 price on the 8385 wheel £87.30 or the 9165 wheel £83 orT for £77.40 (+the £9.90del each) Would these wheel options require new bolts? If as above the tyres can be had for £50(allthough oponeo is showing £63) my local salvage place is breaking a octavia classic(08 same as my elegance) with steels(if not damaged from a frontal) not sure what size but last time I bought off them they were £12 each for steel wheels from their shop. £5 to fit a tyre.
  14. I looked at one of these june last year down near Portsmouth, Complete wreck and they want £6k(forget the mileage think it was 70kish). There was another low mileage(IIRC around 30k) in the midland for £6k . the only one on autotrader is £6k and that is a 2.5l with 64k Lot of motor for the money and they don't come up often. Should sell.
  15. I got caught out by this, there is second section in the service book for "other" work, so if done seperate from a scheduled service it may be in there. L&K are very rare compared to other specs, I was watching for around 2 years and they only come up 1 or 2 at a time.every other month or so. DSG even fewer.
  16. The L&K standard specs changed over time, skoda seemed to go on a 3 month cycle changing something there was a big change around mid 07 when quite a few things got added as standard leaving satnav, front parkers sunroof as the main 3 options. (I don't remeber exacly what got added when) Electric seats are very rare as an option on Elegance and some L&K before they became standard. There are the odd 1.9 good spec L&K we have the 1.9dsg in an elegance and it is fine performance, but then we came up from 70bhp in 306
  17. My 08 1.9 27k second variable and dsg was done in April(I bought it in Aug) £335 the dsg oil 5l was £55 also looking they only charged for 4l of oil on this service, the first variable had 5l Hughes Farnhan common.
  18. How many last minute octavias will the be? Some dealer stock but I guess you may have to be quick to grab one if they manage carefully some dealers may not even bother with stock. Skoda seem to run out models in a very controlled way these days, they have allready cut many variations, have started the limited run specials to boost sales and keep the production line running. These specials seem to be using stock readily available componants and have very short lead times, if they sell well they can always do another run using up other bits from the parts bins. As most production lines can now build for multiple markets(and possibly multiple models) they can rundown production for the UK limiting surplus stock.
  19. It has gone now, anyone grab it?
  20. £4799 £20 a day off thinking time.
  21. Car hire and legal cover seem to add a lot to small premiums. maybe they have cut the admin fee for renewals over new business that may explain the £20
  22. Thats a detachment a lot of people make, don't see that spening in one area causes debt in another. You have allready identified that if you did not have the cars you would not have the debt. Option 1 to option 3 is comparing running old against new, the end point is the same no cars start again. To do a like for like you need to buy 2 new cars and run the numbers against the renting option. trade yours, pay off the debt, £4k cash left 2*£16k new cars, £28k @10% £500pm for 3 years left with £16,700 if there really is 2*£9k residual net £1300
  23. Looks like the reason you have debt(£11k) is you have bought expensive cars. With £1800pm that debt is paid off in 6 months and the £16k needed for the new car is another 9 month But that will be sooner because you still have equity less repairs. look at the senarioes ending with no cars, debt 10%, saving 3% With option 3 running 2 new cars cashing in the current ones to pay off the debt and put down deposits £4k + £500pm over 3 years saving £1300pm savings £48900 option 1 running current cars -£11k + £1800pm over 3 years -repairs + equity Savings £57400k + the difference in equity-repairs.
