  1. Thanks to all. I have to first find out f it is doable and take it from there.
  2. Can anyone point me to a wrecker of late model Skodas in the UK please. I am after a Multi Function Steering Wheel with the phone controls on it. Mine is an earlier car (2009) which never had BT fitted and now I have fitted it I wouldn't mind the wheel presuming of course I can fit it which is another question. Cab the MFSW for BT be retrofitted?
  3. I am fitting a BT unit to My 2009 Elegance and the steering wheel buttons do not have the correct logos for the phone on them. i presume others have done this before me so did they replace the button panels (can they be gotten for spare parts?) or did you not bother. OR do they need replacing to make the BT controllable from the wheel?
  4. Everyone thinks music. I installed a 128 gig ssd harddrive in my 510 and it is great. Besides music I have put audio books, podcasts, and interviews on it. Think beyond music, there is a heap of stuff out there to be listened to. I haven't filled the drive though I have the music to do it but then I never expected to fill it, the price was right so more storage could not hurt and he who has the biggest toys wins!
  5. I put a Columbus in my car and it has video capability so the obvious thing is to see if it works. I put a disc in and it played the preamble up to when you have to use the selection menu to play the disc. I can't see any way to actually use the menu selection, no remote, no mouse etc so am I missing something obvious or is it a no go. If that is the case what exactly can I play on this thing as all commercial DVD have a selection menu on them, or all the ones I know of do.
  6. IIRC there have been some upgrades in engine management to enable better fuel economy on the Passat.
  7. Is it possible to disable hill hold? I left foot brake autos and hill hold just gets in the way.
  8. The tone works as does yours but the visual display stay say systems start/read for about 30 seconds. It only has about 13 gig of songs on it at the moment but I am starting to think it is the issue. I can't compare it to a standard drive as I bought the radio and put the drive in all at once having a Bolero before that. What do you mean by............If you did one load of songs you should be ok.......? Thanks.
  9. No but it might have something to do with the 128 gig harddrive that we put in it. Being an SSD HD I didn't hink it would as they are very fast and there is absolutely no delay on selection of folders etc.
  10. Thanks Ray, have you encountered the same issue if you leave it on?
  11. I have recently fitted a Columbus radio to my Superb and have noticed that the reverse sensors are disabled until the system finishes booting. Is this normal? When fitted with the Bolero it was immediate.
  12. Exactly opposite for me. I find it is the first car I have had which I sit upright in and do not tend to slump and slide down in the seat due to the it being short. Combined with the full adjustability of the driver's seat it makes long journeys a pleasure.
  13. Why are you so rabid about biodoesel? Do you actually average over 350km a day? That's half way to Melbourne from Sydney. I call BS.
  14. Thread revival, P Zeros in Oz @ 28000K with plenty of tread left. Mostly driven on open roads between 100 - 120KPH, very little suburban driving at all. The tread blocks on the front tyres are higher at the front of each block than the back, tapered so to speak and only on the inside of the tyre. Has anyone had camber issues? I was looking for a noisy tyre and when I running my hands over the tyres I noticed it. On asking the so called tyre experts all I got was blank looks for my trouble. They have been always set to the factory pressures with a Longacre digital gauge (verrrryyyy expensive) so the pressures should not be a problem. Has anyone else noticed this issue? I will put a camber gauge on it tomorrow and see what it reads.
  15. This noise seems to be an TDI engine specific problem for all VW cars that use it. It has been reported and discussed many times in this forum and others.
  16. Pull the seat squab out, it takes thirty seconds and it sits vertically between the back of the front seats and the folded backrest of the back seat. Unplug the wires before totally lifting it out of position.
  17. That is better explained and now understood. It could be a number of things, head pressure in the compressor too high, TX valve going on strike or maybe the temp sensor not working at elevated temps. If I were fixing it I would want the car for a couple of days to sort it out if that became necessary due to an obscure fault. Beyond that I have no idea and always beware of experts on internet forums. The problem in the UK (you are there?) I would think is the lack of experience in AC where as in Australia we have vast experience.
  18. Depending on how hot the car is the AC won't appear to be cooling straight away due to the high ambient temps it has to cool. Several minutes after operation begins the air coming out of the vents should feel cooler but it will be a a bit longer before this has any noticeable effect on the interior temp. I open all windows for a minute or two while driving so all the hot air is flushed out so the AC can deal with it better. It may also pay to recirculate the air within the vehicle for increased cooling.
  19. Well that's a load of rubbish, I tried it again and it does roll back but not very fast at least initially, quite slowly in fact. I find the hill hold a bit of an annoyance when using left foot braking as it is not needed.
  20. Everyone has hill hold for as long as you want fitted standard to the driver, using an auto that is, use your left foot to hold the brake and the right to push on the throttle, instant hill hold. Mind you I have been doing this for over thirty years with autos so it is not strange to me, I left foot brake them and find it a natural thing to do. Yes, I know every driving instructor, expert etc advise against it but that is their opinion as they have never tried to adapt. Edit: I have a very steep driveway so ran a test. when I release the brake the car holds for two seconds then creeps forward and stays there, does not roll back or go forward. Is this hill hold or hill start? I bought the car used so do not know the difference between the two. I am guessing it is hill start but the car is obviously slipping the clutch and shows no sign of it releasing.
  21. I often want a flat floor for loading long cartons in my combi so I remove the rear squab and the back lays perfectly flat. It is literally less that 60 seconds to take it out or put it in. In fact it is so easy I think they did it on purpose to allow the owner to do so.
  22. I couldn't be bothered if it is accurate or not as I only use it for one reason and that is to compare what it does from one tank to the next. As long as the readings are consistent I haven't got an issue. As for 76mpg my diesel wouldn't do that down hill with a tail wind at 60 mph.
  23. It would kill the A4 diesel stone dead and VW will never allow that to happen. The A4 in this country at least has a huge premium price, nearly double the Superb. It is reputedly a rocket ship performance wise and Skoda's market is not a performance one except for the Octavia RS, just one model.
  24. I saw the results of using the incorrect oil with a DPF in a Mazda, the bill was eye watering for replacing the DPF and sensors, more expensive than a Skoda. The car had been serviced on time and kilometers but the owner had been told by the workshop servicing it that oils were oils and it did not matter. He saved in servicing costs but it bit him in the end.
