  1. Just changed the water pump on my 01 Fabia 1.4 Mpi, very easy once a few obvious steps followed, trial and error on my part, first loosen your fan belt at the alternator and remove, remove the pulley wheel attached to the water pump, with a piece of timber and a jack support the engine at the sump, this done loosen the bracket from the old pump to the engine mount, now jack up the engine a few inches to give you a little angle and a bit of clearance for removal and replacement, before you go near the pump loosen the brackets on the section of metal pipe below the pump (outlet pipe) these are located just below the pump and beside the sump, just follow the pipe down and around, then remove the engine mount, very simple four small bolts, then remove the water bottle (two screws), disconnect the rubber pipe from the water bottle to just below the pump at the pump end, now you have loads of space, remove old pump, a little sand paper rubbing on the old face a little grease on the new pump side of the gasket, slide on your new pump and before you reattach refit the hose to the outlet while the brackets are loose, once attached tighten the brackets again and then tighten the nuts and bolts on the new pump, reattach the pulley wheel to the pump, reattach the water bottle hose and water bottle to the body, reattach the engine mount to the body and as you let down the jack realign the engine bracket from the top of the pump to the engine mount and tighten the bolts, replace the fan belt as removed, then in a weeks time check the nut on the engine mount again, voila
  2. I'm losing coolant in my 01 Fabia and was hoping for some help in discovering where the leak comes from, is it a matter of simply running it until hot and locating the hiss if there is one, oil is clear as new gaskets 6 months ago so the water is not going into the engine, any help greatly appreciated
  3. All went well no rivets needed drilling, just grab a few plastics keepers before you start as it is inevitable some will break, the only thing to watch for when removing the inside metal panel is the connection from the doorlock knob to the lock/central locking mechanism, a very flimsy piece of plastic at the mechanism end is what holds a decent size gauge metal rod, the other end of which becomes your doorlock knob, top left hand corner, the glass goes in best from the outside, just take your time as was suggested to me and it was sound advice, thank you all
  4. Thank you Rusko, will let you know how i get on, may just call the dealer and ask for any heads up, Skoda has a habit of being different for the sake of being different, thanks again i appreciate it, Chick
  5. Tomorrow evening i tackle the task of replacing the glass in the passenger door window, does anyone know if this is an easy job ie are there particular items to watch out for etc., i have the replacement window , any help would be greatly appreciated
  6. I'm having similar problems, how did you determine the flange was not aligned and when did you know it was aligned? thanks
  7. I finally got around to cleaning the sensor, the sensor came off easily and i blew compressed air into the rack and cleaned the sensor, there was quite a trickle of water from the sensor when i loosened the allen screws, the inside appeared to be a little rusty more shaded rusty no actual corrosion, the light is still on and i am wary about sticking anything into the sensor itself as there appears to be a thin narrow piece of metal which might easily be damaged, i topped up the fluid and still no change , the light is still on, it appears the sensor had been changed before because it is a metal encased sensor which is not the original sensor which is plastic encased, any suggestions on further action, the steering is working well again although i haven't drived it very far

  9. Magic thanks, will let you know the result
  10. Not to sound dumb but do you open the sensor to clean it, i gave the outside a clean with a toothbrush and blew compressed air around the rack and sensor but no change
  11. gonna try it tomorrow, thanks, will let you know the result
  12. Does anyone know the cheapest place to buy a genuine steering angle sensor, metal encased with the electrical loom?
  13. thank you for writing this, i am looking for a metal encased sensor cheap and was hoping you might have a site or number of someone who provides theses genuine parts, i've spoken to a skoda dealer who has quoted me £115
  14. thank you very much the problem has ceased for the time being and the light no longer is coming on but from reading other posts it appears once it starts then it just gets worse, any cheap genuine parts sites? thanks again
  15. thanks Moggytech its a 01 Fabia Classic , does that decide which steering rack?
  16. i called a dealership and was asked which sensor i was talking about, a multi plug or electrical loom, i asked a mechanic and he said there was only one sensor, anyhow does anyone know which is responsible for the whistling and lights flickering?
  17. heaters on was the trick thanks all, no more gurgling or swishing
  18. the head set came with just gaskets and some rivet thingys which he said we wouldn't need but no bolts, i am now a little concerned, thanks for the heads up, he's gonna reset the taps??? again in a month i'll mention the stretch bolts then
  19. not actually destroyed but got a replacement after a week it was billowing white smoke and losing water as awell, but those 6 litres of oil are a mystery,
  20. i didn't refer to my post as i was expecting to be notified via e-mail, the newly skimmed head went in a treat with new gaskets everywhere, we didn't use new bolts and all is hitherto ok, only been two days, is using the old bolts a serious no no?
  21. not ashamed to say i subsequently destroyed that engine no idea where the oil was going, was putting it in the oil intake, thanks for assistance
  22. is there any way other than running the engine with the cap off and squeezing the water pipes to remove an airlock as i have done this and it hasn't really changed
  23. I just did a full head set gasket change with a newly skimmed head, all running well but there is a swishing or gurgling sound coming from not far under the driver side dash, the engine was changed 3 months ago and this sound started then, i have no idea what it is airlock or whatever but its a bit unnerving and annoying, fluctuates with revs, any help as to what it is and how it can be resolved
