  1. Skoda UK have a fixed price schedule for cambelt changes: I think my local "ex-skoda" charged me £489 for the cambelt inc waterpump.
  2. For the record, I went with a Varta E39 (570 901 076) silver dynamic AGM battery from Tayna. I took it to my local dealer/specialist who fitted, coded and did whatever else they needed to do. Everything seems to be working just fine again - for example the stop/start started working again on the return journey, having previously stopped working. I think they charged me half an hour which I was happy with - and they kept my old battery which they also confirmed as faulty.
  3. I've read all sorts of things all over the place so wanted to get my facts straight before I get too far. It's a Superb mkII FL 2.0CR DSG L&K with stop/start. I think I'll need an AGM battery and the Varta E39 (570 901 076) silver dynamic AGM looks like it fits the bill? Will it need coding to the car with VCDS or is it a "simple" replacement? TIA!
  4. Isn't 3.0 bar above the recommended maximum even with a fully loaded car? I'd be worried that you're over-inflating so possibly reducing the amount of grip available to you. If your tyre wear is mostly in the centre, then I'd say you are definitely over-inflating.
  5. Silly question - you *are* in D rather than S aren't you? The only time we've seen this behaviour on ours is when towing a caravan, again the DSG would stay on 5th but would move to 6th when manually selected.
  6. It seems that the standard warranty only covers shocks for 6 months or 6,500 miles as they are classified as wear and tear items.
  7. I believe that AFS only works if the headlight switch is in the "auto" position. The headlights should do a dance too when the ignition is first turned on and it's dark enough for the auto lights to come on.
  8. FaceLift model. Wikipedia says that it was introduced in mid 2013, so if yours is a 2014 then it should be identical to ours. The heated screen is controlled by a new button (near the climatronic), vaguely similar to the rear heated window button, but "windscreen shaped").
  9. odd - it was a standard part of the L&K package on ours. Thinking about it, ours is the FL model if that makes any difference.
  10. you can clearly see tiny wires zigzagging down the screen - like the rear, but many more wires and much thinner. I find it a little distracting at night with headlights catching the wires, but the benefit of de-icing outweighs that.
  11. We have a 2014 2.0 CR170 DSG L&K and it averages about 55mpg on the computer. This probably translates into 50-53 (about 5%) and that's reasonably confirmed by us averaging 600miles per tank of fuel. We've never used the park assist, but do appreciate the front parking sensors that are included. We also like the heated front screen, heated rear seats and LED lighting (I think not on Elegance). We don't like the 18" wheels (less supple ride) and would have probably spec'd 17" if we'd have known.
  12. We don't have hill hold so use the handbrake instead (like a regular manual car). You can see/feel when the clutch is engaging.
  13. We find the DSG on our CR170 silky smooth. As already mentioned, there can be jerkiness if pulling away sharply from stationary and this is easily solved by a rolling start before flooring it. Hill starts have taken some time to learn but in general are ok. We find that selecting S is useful if planning an overtake as, if in D, dropping from 6th to 3rd or 4th can be slower than you'd want it to be. Then reselect D when the overtake is done to return to cruising. We've also noted that when towing, our gearbox can unnecessarily hold onto 5th when 6th would be fine. Manually selecting 6th before going back to D fixes this.
  14. A common thread is a thudding/thumping noise on braking when the fuel tank is full. For me that usually stops after a hundred miles or so.
  15. So the battery has only had slightly over three years of use before dying?
  16. I think the most common thing in my experience is cabin temperature - if it gets too hot or cold when stopped it needs to start again for cooling/heating. If I know I'm stopped for a long while then I'll turn off the ignition instead.
  17. I've noticed this behaviour whilst the engine and oil is warming up. The temperature could be indicating 80C whilst cruising, then when I go round a roundabout it can change very quickly by up to 10C. I don't remember if it then stays like that. I put it down to the sensor being located in an area of poorer oil flow and the cornering is helping mix up the oil??
  18. So, our '14 Superb 170CR DSG did a weird stop-start thing today. We were in a very long queue of traffic (maybe 20mins) and it happened to be a hottish day today (guess 25C). Everything was working just fine with the engine stopping and starting exactly as it should when..... The next time it comes to start, the starter cranks the engine at the usual speed and we hear it catching but then it died immediately - almost like a cough. It did this two or three times in a row before we decided to engage park and turn the car off. After that it started just fine. We decided to turn off the stop-start until we parked up maybe 5-10mins later. Everything was working just fine on the way home. Any ideas?
  19. I'm not intending to have a go, but you have asked several questions on this thread that are already covered in other threads on this (very helpful) forum. I have a similar experience of not being able to put much fuel into my Octavia when "empty" and a quick search on here showed a few threads of interest like this one: so I didn't bother posting a question as it looks like it's a common experience.....
  20. FWIW the long term average on my 2014 1.6 Greenline is 61mpg as tracked by Fuelly. Worst I saw across a tank was 55mpg (over Christmas). Best I ever saw on a run was 86mpg. The vast majority of my journeys are free flowing A-class 50-55mph roads with a bit of stop-start. As many others have stated, driving style makes a huge difference - I can easily reduce my mileage by 10mpg if I'm less sympathetic. I've noticed that the quoted average mileage is awful for the first 10-15mins (especially in winter) where it's down in the 30-40's. This is almost exclusively Tesco bog standard diesel.
  21. As above. We do this occasionally in our L&K then wonder why the stereo is making static-like noises before we realise it's the seat. Look for a three-way button on the front corner of the seat (door-side). This controls the fan for the ventilated seats.
  22. Ah, when I test drove my current Octy III, I had the same problem. Turns out the previous owner had disabled almost all the maxidot reporting. You need to go into one of the bazillions of setup menus and re-enable what you need. I've just checked outside. on my amudsen it's: car -> setup -> multifunction display
  23. I have a 64 plate Octavia III Greenline and can confirm it has heated mirrors. You need to have the mirror switch in the 12 o'clock position for this to work.
  24. When in-gear, the only place I can see the DSG losing power is because the clutches are bathed in oil. Otherwise it's a computer controlled manual gearbox but I agree that 6th gear is not very tall on the DSG which is a shame. FWIW our 14-plate 2.0CR170 DSG L&K twinboot (so the same apart from the body) returns an indicated ~55MPG on a run. I've not put the Superb through Fuelly but we often get 600 miles from a tank which suggests a real-world 52ish MPG. Compared to my Octy III Greenline (1.6CR110 manual), our Superb had far more progressive torque delivery (no obvious turbo lag). We're also on 18" factory OEM (whatever they're called) a little over the recommended pressures according to the fuel filler flap. We're also on 4x GoodYear Efficient Grip Performance.
