  1. I hope the matrix LED headlights work well, because I'm disappointed with the xenons in my MK III. They don't seem as bright as the headlights I had in my Superb MK II.
  2. i agree. My Mk 2 headlights were superior to my Mk 3's.
  3. Just paid €24.99 for 5 litres of BASF AdBlue at Norauto (similar to Halfords) in France. My 1500 mile warning came on as I left the ferry in Caen so I thought that I would err on the safe side and top up. I considered 10 litres until I found out how expensive it was. I found the kit impossible to use as air locks kept preventing the flow of AdBlue in to the tank.
  4. Hej Niklas I drove Volvos exclusively for 38 years, all purchased second hand. My favourite was a 760 GLE Estate that I kept for 13 years! In my opinion there was a noticeable drop in reliability when Ford took over Volvo in the late 90s. My two "Ford" Volvos were a 2004 S80 D5 auto and a 2008 V70 D5 auto. Both suffered from major mechanical faults - steering on both, and the air con on the V70. In 2103 and at 70,000 miles the V70 developed a fault which Volvo couldn't fix, the cam belt had slipped. I part exchanged the V70 for a Mark 2 Superb 170 DSG Elegance Estate and am now on my second Skoda, a Mark 3 Superb SE L190PS DSG Estate. The Mark 3 Superbs are great cars and far cheaper to run than the big Volvos. One thing I do miss however is the comfort of the Volvo seats - the best in the business! Lycka Till!
  5. I agree with Rebelred. But I am sure that the panoramic sunroof on my 190 DSG SEL Exec estate is very noisy at anything over 40 mph. The roof seems to create a roaring sound in the car and will probably be a reason for me not keeping it more than a year or so. The roaring sound seemed to lessen when I opened the roof! My 170 Elegance DSG estate, with no pano roof, was much quieter and the only obtrusive noise came from the continental tyres which I changed to Goodyears which transformed the car.
  6. I think that the Stop/Start system in my 190 DSG is very good. As soon as the car comes to halt, the engine cuts. You have to do nothing, but sit back and relax and when it comes to moving off, a gentle dab of the accelerator is all that is needed to start the engine. My car will not even creep when in drive when the engine is merely ticking over. I have the autohold function operating all the time and stopping on gradients with the stop/start system is no problem. In my car, the system operates when the engine is cold and ambient temperatures are as low as 7 or 8 degrees.

All privately owned and none were for business use. As you can see I was faithful to Volvo for 28 years and I believe the Skoda Superb Estate is a worthy successor to the Volvo estates, even down to having the car park ticket clip on the windscreen! Having been extremely satisfied with the Elegance 170 DSG Estate, I didn't test drive another car. All my vehicles were purchased second hand, but my two Skodas were the lowest mileage cars I've ever bought. The 190 Estate had only 2,600 miles on the clock.
  8. Thanks for all your suggestions. Popped into my Skoda dealer this morning and found that if you hold the back button on the steering wheel too long, the scroll wheel will not scroll through the maxidot menu, and will stick on phone. A delicate dab on the back button is required and then immediate scrolling will take you to the other items on the menu. I was holding the back button too long apparently, or did the problem just right itself? Any how, Maxidot now unstuck
  9. Thank you Bugginbob. I'll try soft resetting the stereo.
  10. The Maxidot display in my SE L Executive has suddenly stuck on connecting to the phone and refuses to display the normal menu items, such as speed, mpg etc. I have read the manual and pressed the appropriate buttons to no avail. It will display navigation settings if navigation is set in the main menu but reverts to the phone when exiting navigation. Does anyone have a solution to this problem or is a dealer visit required?
  11. Hi Blueboy510. It's the same in my SE L Executive estate so that would appear to be standard. It was also the same on my mark 2 Superb Elegance estate. The variable boot floor, which should be standard in my opinion, has the plastic insert I believe. I wonder if it is possible to order an insert from Skoda because as you say, the slit does look cheap.
  12. That's reassuring. Thanks Rebelred!
  13. Hi all! Got my moon white metallic Superb 190 PS DSG estate a couple of weeks ago, ex Skoda management with 2600 miles, and I was drawn to it because of the sunroof. Have any of you with sun roofs experienced any problems? My only concern at the moment is that it could make the car noisier because the full length glass roof might transmit more noise than the steel roof. I have had sun roofs in the past on Volvos and when closed no extra noise entered the car.
  14. The car refused to start for the fourth time on Saturday and I called Skoda Assistance. This time, instead of the AA, Volkswagen Technical turned up and the technician replaced my battery which was dead! The car is used every day for short trips but does get the odd 60 mile round trip. After fitting the battery, the technician waited for the car systems to close down before measuring the residual drain on the battery which was 0.1 amps, i.e. lower than average he said. Hopefully the car will be reliable now but I'm still not sure about the Columbus unit which turns itself off a minute after switching it on.
  15. I've had to call out the AA (via Skoda Assistance) three times myself in the last six months as my 2013 Superb 170 DSG had a flat battery and had failed to start. My local dealer had the car for 3 days in May and found nothing wrong! There is obviously a problem. I've bought an AA solar powered trickle charger, but despite using this, when I remember, it is still slow to turn over. In 38 years of Volvo ownership, I never had to call on breakdown assistance. Admittedly, I'm doing short journeys at the moment with the odd 60 mile round trip. I'm not using the car any differently to my two previous Volvo diesels however, an S80 and a V70 and they gave no problems. Swedish vehicles are tough and have to be capable of starting in an arctic winter. I will be taking the car back to my dealer shortly and demand they get to the root of the problem.
  16. £120 to refurbish a diamond cut Thermisto, or £155 plus £12.50 delivery for a new Thermisto wheel from Bickertons Skoda. There's the dilemma!
  17. A word of warning for those contemplating 18 inch wheels, they are desperately easy to kerb! I suspect that 17 inch wheels with 45 aspect tyres would be less prone to kerbing and quieter as well.
  18. I've just done my first motorway trip with the new 225/40/18 92 Y XL Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tyres fitted to the rear. The original Continental Sport Contact 2s are still on the front. The car is much quieter now and the ride has improved. It should be even better when I put Goodyear Eagle F1s on the front.
  19. Yes, I'm on 225/40/18s, the standard tyre for the Elegance in the UK. It will be a while before I can comment on how the Goodyear's wear, or whether they make a difference to fuel consumption, but I should soon see whether they give the car a more comfortable and quiet ride with the new tyres on the rear. I have always been very careful with tyre pressures having an accurate gauge and a foot pump.
  20. My Superb 170 Elegance DSG estate is 17 months old and has cover 10,100 miles. The Continental Sport Contact 2 tyres are down to the legal limit on the front and not far off the limit at the rear. Just ordered a couple of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tyres which I will have put on the rear and the two partially worn Continentals transferred to the front. I bought the car with 6,500 miles on the clock and have never been happy with the Continentals which have been terribly noisy, their wear rate is also appalling on the Superb. My previous cars have been big Volvos with 50 aspect tyres and 35,000 miles from a set of Michelins is what I usually got. .
  21. My Nokia Lumia 625 Windows phone works brilliantly in my 2013 pre FL Elegance estate. The car reads out texts and allows me to respond by speaking the text message back if I wish. My previous Nokia symbian phone wasn't so clever.
  22. Thanks for the tip about "ATA confirm" Mannyo! I've had my Superb Combi for 5 months now and thought that the annoying blip on locking and unlocking was a permanent feature of the car.
  23. Thank you, just had the same issue and the opening and closing of all the windows solved the problem. Why are Volkswagen group cars so unnecessarily complicated when it comes to simple things? Never had this with my previous Volvos.
