  1. Hi Newbie, Thought I'd chip in as my choice was also between the Golf Plus and the Yeti - only two options in mind after loads of research and test driving. My head said Golf my heart said Yeti but in the end it was a no brainer for me simply for the following reasons: 1. Price. I looked at used Golf Plus' and ex demo Yeti's and for a similar spec Golf (albeit a 1.2 Yeti v a 1.4 Golf) the price gap ran into thousands. I got a low mileage Elegance from SMC in Exeter (who were great by the way). A much higher milage Golf Plus was at least 2 grand more. Have you had a look for an ex demo here? http://www.skoda.net.r66.co.uk/Results.aspx No 1.4's but 1.2's from around £14K. 2. Looks. I fell in love with the Yeti and still think its one of the best looking cars out there. I prefer the Golf Plus to the Golf but doesn't come close to Yeti in my humble opinion. Nice to be different. 3. Driving position. Golf Plus is quite high for a 'normal' car but the room up front in the Yeti is immense. I'm 6'4 so needed something spacious and Yeti has it in spades and love the view of the road you get from the few extra inches. On the downside, I'm not convinced by the back seat space in the Yeti. We have a 3 week old baby so that's fine but if you have a bigger family or anyone with longish legs I would guess Golf Plus gives you a lot more comfort and room in the back? I agree about wind noise - aware of it when test driving on dual carriage ways after reading a review - however, its not exactly an aerodynamic beast so to be expected. Not intrusive and not a bad pay off for all the other huge plus points. Have another drive and give a 1.2 a go. I couldn't believe how much poke it has. Good luck!
  2. I'd be up for that Johann. Although if you could disguise your sunroof, that would be appreciated. Don't want to get envious!
  3. Nice pic Raz. Am liking the Cappucino colour more and more - looks silvery here. Those alloys look good too. How much snow do you expect in Finland?!
  4. Can you get 'I bought my Skoda from James at Allams' bumper stickers?
  5. Hey Johann, So, you've got it and just waiting for winters tyres now? Yeti is in one piece, right? Hope so! Decided I can't afford the winter tyre option but will get some snow socks for emergencies. Hope I don't regret it.
  6. Hi Paul, I'm a new 1.2 TSI driver and I absolutely love it. Only driven diesels before including a 2.0 litre Tiguan which has loads more power but that's not something I need as a city driver so went for petrol. Has a surprising amount of wallop for such a small engine but not yet done any motorway. Suspect if I lived rurally Diesel might have been my choice but can't justify for mileage and type of journeys I do and don't regret choice. Re brokers - no experience of this but assume you are aware of very long waiting times for delivery? Up to 6 months I believe. I bought ex demo for a fair price recently but with shortage of supply have heard these are currently going for new prices... Did look at prices on Drive The Deal which seems very popular and they were much lower than list price but assume you still have a long wait if you buy new. Good luck!
  7. I had to negotiate a puddle with a slight covering of ice in South London. Does that count? I've got a tame, urban Yeti but interested to see how the wild Yeti's cope with proper weather. Pretty good I imagine.
  8. Glad I'm not the only saddo out there! Just got home and resisting the urge to take it for a run for no particular reason. Maybe I'll do my bit for the planet and just gaze at it instead.

    Autosocks

Great thread Roguebrit. Helped make my mind up about being out and about in London if/when the snow and ice come. I will need to do a hosptial run in January and don't want my baby being delivered on the back seat of the Yeti! Glad I should be able to avoid the expense and hassle of buying 16inch wheels and fitting winter tyres!
  11. Actually Johann, just noticed yours has a sunroof. You win! Very jealous - think they look like a great addition. Hope you get it fixed soon. Out of interest, are you swapping the 'summer' tires for winter ones or keeping them and swapping back when it warms up again? I'm thinking about the winter tyre option as will need to get my pregnant girlfriend to hosptial in Jan and if its anything like last year... From other threads, the process seemed quite complicated. Be good to know your thoughts.
  12. Johann - its a beaut. Nearly as nice as mine. In fact identical except my seats smell leathery. So mine clearly wins. Have they thrown in any little extras - rubber matt for the boot or wax etc? Think you should blag something for having to bring the bugger back on its first day! Unlucky but sun is shining and I'm sure you'll be on the road soon. Where are you collecting it from? PS Love the reg plate!
  13. Ah, Johan. I didn't realise you didn't have it yet. I too took the train to a dealer - in Exeter. Being the genius I am, I had the wrong paperwork so had to wave bye bye to the Yeti and take the train back to London. Got it a week later though and not looked back since. You have a mountain villa? We should become friends! Seriously though, what part of SE are you? Will be on look out for another Yeti. Not seen one on the road yet. Enjoy!
  14. Get one - you won't regret it!
  15. A bit embarrassing to admit this but only had my Yeti for 2 days (Steel Grey, 1.2 TSI Elegance) and I catch myself looking out the window to admire it and finding any excuse to run down the road in it. As my other car is a bike and I used to hate the idea of driving anywhere for the sake of it, am finding this development a bit distubring. When I'm driving, I also feel incredibly calm whereas in a hire car or borrowing a mates car, I'd find myself losing the plot very quickly. In fact, can't wait to get home to give it a run and I live in London so that's saying something. Am pretty sure I woudn't feel this way about the Golf Plus I almost bought. This is a seriously addictive car. Anyone else suffering from the Yeti effect?
  16. Jealous. Picking mine up on Sat. Can't wait. From what I've heard the 1.2 does the job. Loved it on test drive. Was offered a 1.4 but went for slightly better economy and lower tax band. Hope I made right choice.
  17. Great video link. Have just ordered a Yeti with (no doubt) summer tires. Live in London but concerned that for past 2 years, roads have been shut down during winter in my area and want to make sure I can get my pregnant girlfriend to hospital in a few weeks time. Looks like changing to winter tires might be way forward although am sure I'll get a shock with the cost...
  18. Getting the train to Exeter from London on Saturday to pick up my first ever car, an ex demo Yeti 1.2 Elegance (steel grey, black leather if you're wondering) Shopped around for various options - Golf Plus, Tiguan, Mazda 6 etc and nothing seemed to come close to the Yeti. A little bit over excited for a 36 year old so called grown up... Quick starter question - any Yeti owners driven in snow without 4x4 or snow tires? Asking because might be driving pregnant girlfriend to hospital in icy conditions come January...
