  1. on a recent trip to YATE shopping centre,i happened upon some bottles of shiny laquer in various colours(yes im talking nail varnish)(no im not in the habbit of looking at nail varnish)but my wife was looking at jewelry on the next shelf, anyway the bottle that caught my eye was green,,FOREST GREEN,by LA,COLORS,ART DECO range,i thought it looked prety close to the shade of my fabia, and so payed the money and took a chance,lo and behold,,absolutely perfect colour match, and the best bit is the shop "EVERYTHINGS A £1" result
  2. on a recent trip into town , i was slightly disturbed by a sudden loss of brake pedal!!! having only days before rotated my wheels i checked the condition of brake pads and fluid levels, all ok. after pumping the pedal returned, and so i drove home "very slowly" next day checked my brakes and discovered that front nearside outer disc pad was missing!! the shoe was still there but not the block??????? so my question is has anybody else experienced this(couldnt find any threads)and what caused it?is it cheap immitation parts? i have had the car for about 2 years and have not changed any brake parts,so cannot speak for theyre authenticity, there were no ident marks left visible(corrosion),the other 3 pads were all ok with a good 8mm thickness and fairly even wear ,i am puzzelled to say the least
  3. i think bashing the pin hard withn a hammer is very likely going to damage the thread, if you instead take 2 hammers and hit the bracket that the pin goes through, from both sides at the same time, difficult i know but if you get it just right the pin will drop like magic, honest, ive done several ball joints,it rarely fails,if you arent changing the track end,,its the safest way to keep the thread intact, hope this helps
  4. i was driven to despair by my rumble clunk, until today thought id check anti roll bushing so unload the bar jack up remove near side wheel undo top joint of drop link, drop link falls to floor oops, lucky had spare replaced road tested SORTED i am over the moon
  5. some while ago,i took my 2000 1.4 MPI fabia for a "FULL"service.to my surprise this amounted to the inspection and hunting for what other charges they could add; J KEANE & SONS (ROS) LTD Lanesboro street Roscommon full service =oil change/top up fluid levels informed boot doesnt open and requires attention(they meant when you pull the lever by drivers seat it doesnt work) requires rear shock buffers? rear wishbone bushings? as there is no wishbone on the rear i can only suppose they mean the front wishbone rear bushes but not sure
  6. thanks freind ,a realy useful guide, well laid out with good informative pics
  7. like it ,loathe it,in equal measure . why does it look so american styled ? a bit like the crossfire
  8. hi all just thought i would share,on a recent trip from county roscommon,to rosslaire,i managed to get 49.3MPG. a lot of this journey is downhill & the ambient air temp was avg 23 degrees C. the return journey result was 43.1 temp 12C. but nonethe less 49.3 MPG, from a 1.4 mpi year 2000 6Y fabia is i think you must agree quite a feat, admitedly i never went over 60 MPH and rarely exceeded 3000 revs.also if any members are in bristol or near to it check out"VOLKSMANIA"a scrap yard in hallen lane bristol ,dedicated "VAG"breakers, for example i just purchased a fabia towbar for £40 . they had a good selection of volks, jetta, polo, golf, etc audi A4,A6,etc & skoda's mainly fabia+octavia some fav+fel'smost parts are clean on the shelf well worth a look
  9. i changed my passenger door(cos it was easier than the window mech)now i have two different door locks try as i may the lock wont budge ,followed "HAYNES" to the letter,it works for the drivers door but not the passenger. any ideas? anybody? please help :'(
  10. had same problem front passenger ,sorry i just replaced the door, but only because i had a good 1 spare,i now have manual passenger and electric drivers window
  11. thanks for this (only poor english if you meant red circle i only see red arrow)
  12. i washed my rear covers this week after a spill of heating oil in the boot forced my hand, as it soaked into the foam of the seat cushion ,nasty smell, stuck it in the wash machine 60 degree pretty good result, also had to replace seat cushion lucky had a spare one piece from a wreck bought for parts,a little bit nervous cutting it to fit my split rear ,but needs must, lucky it was the small seat as the larger one needs to be modified slightly to accomadate the framework where the bracket sits. hope this is helpful to you
  13. so happy to have read your guide, looked to change cover some while back but was put off by the rings, sadly a recent spilliage of nasty substance prompted me to remove back seat covers,wash/mach-tumble dry like brand new, thanks to your guide i gave it a go
