  1. I find it depends on how you drive it, if you drive it hard your going to use more, mines just over 200000 and still uses prety much the same as your using.
  2. 350 mile covered tuesday night, cooler bypassed thermostate removed. Water clean as you could expect and no water loss. (I forgot to mention that on Friday last when it was loseing water and putting oil in the water I was told to use a leak stopper called K-Seal which seams to have done the trick. It permenantley repaires cracked blocks heads head gaskets core plugs rads etc.) Wednesday reconnected oil cooler drove around a few mile water still clean so flushed system again and used a 2 part cleaner with oil cool connected. 295 mile covered Wednesday night system still clean and not lost any water so to day it will be new thermostate and see how she goes.
  3. Thanks guys, i know about the bolt holes having oil in them. Not good:eek: Spent the day cleaning out the water system, (there is a very long story to do with the head gasket blowing the week before christmas and a dodgy garage that recond after the gasket was replaced it was possible that there was a crack in a bore and basically made out that they fitted a recon engine. Dunno how they done it though been as its still the old engine in the car and its never been out the car good job i'm not engine iliterate, still thats sorted but the car isn't.) So as far as i am aware the head was skimmed but for some reason was not pressure tested. Anyhow i have bypassed the oil cooler the water is clean, had the car running a good 45 mins to make sure no airlocks, the hose from the thermostate did not get warm but temp gauge read 90 and heater was hot so i have removed thermostate and will run it tonight and reconnect cooler tomorrow some time. Strangley after romoving themostate the engine dosn't seem to be breathing as heavy when you remove the oil filler and no oil splashes out at tickover wear as it would usually throw a bit out. maybe its me. Will post again when i no more. Cheers Keith.
  4. The car also drives as if there is nothing wrong with it. As a matter of intrest does the engine have to come out from the bottom with the gearbox as manual says, or can it come out from the top on its own. Cheers
  5. Hi all. Ocy 110 tdi losing water no visable leaks with some light whisps of oil on water surface. Head gasket was changed. New turbo was fitted due to leak from bearing housing but when removed there was alot of movment in compressor shaft, the car had covered 199000 miles. The car has now done approx 600 miles since head gasket was changed. (The car is a taxi and this mileage was covered over 2 nights). The car is still loseing water but not as much (half a litre over 400 miles instead of nearly 2 litres for roughly the same mileage. There is more oil in water now, bypassed oil cooler cleaned out water system run car still used some water maybe air lock due to draining but water seemed a bit cleaner. Reconnected oil cooler run it for about half hour and there seemed to be more oil in water. The oil on dipstick is as should be but creamy on filler cap (but could be condensation due to head been cleaned and washed?) Are coolers prone to leak, iv'e been quoted £110 inc vat for cooler but I don't want to spend out on cooler to find it could be something like a cracked head. Any ideas welcome. Thanks Keith. Any ideas welcome
  6. Thanks for the advice i will get it checked out and see how we go.
  7. Hi all, Ocy 110 tdi with bad oil leak which looks like its coming from the bearing housing on the turbo. Its done 190000 miles and just had a new head gasket fitted which is not right as the car is using water and there is a few whisps of oil in the water, when the gasket first blew it was pressurising the water system, the head had been skimmed and pressure tested, but thats down to the garage to put right. My main consern is the turbo. Is it repairable or could there be some other reason for the leak ? would it need a new unit. If a new unit is needed could I upgrade to a PD 130/150 unit, if so would it be worth the upgrade, the car has been remapped to about 135 ish and has a green panel filter. Main consern is oil leak though. Cheers Keith.
  8. Have not replaced waterpump but would it not overheat if the pump was faulty? also took it steady today (not above 2500 rpm on motorway & round town) and it has'nt lost any water and the black stuff has gone and the header tank is clean inside:confused:
  9. Oil is fine, could the black floaty stuff in the water be from the exhaust gas, like i said its not oil but i suppose it could be carbon deposits, if you run it to temp with cap off after a while when you rev it will rise and come out the tank, with the cap on it will come out the tank if you drive it hard. If it is the head gasket are they much of a pain to do.
  10. Hi all. Octavia 110 tdi, lost water a couple of times from the expansion tank:confused: not sure if the presure cap is falty or the head gaskets gone:Yikes:. The water in the tank has a black somthing on the top, but not oily more of a powdery type of thing. With the cap off if you rev it a bit the water will rise and a few bubbles come up:eek: not sure if its the gasket or trapped air. If you put the cap on the hoses don't pressurise like you would expect if it was the gasket (unless very slight leak). If you push it on the motorway after a while the temp will rise drop and lose water out of tank only. Any ideas anyone. Cheers
  11. The car lost power over the day, the driver said it was flat as if no turbo but there was a whirring noise coming from the belts, was concerned there may be a tensioner failer on the way so took to cam belt specalist. It was stripped down and you could see marks on the rollers and tensioner as if some slipping had occured, i was then informed by the driver that occasionally when starting from cold the engine would judder violently and not start then on the second attempt would be ok. The elongated bolt holes on the pump where against their stops to the right Everything was stripped down, the tensioner if you shook it rattled as if the bearing was falling to bits :Yikes: Complete new kit was fitted and re-timed. Still flat :thumbdwn: but at least safe. Diagnostic showed Injection Pump Timing Solenoid Valve which we think was damaged due to the belt slipping slightley, anyhow valve is on order from skoda and was wondering if they are easy to fit, will post the results. Thanks Keith.
  12. Changed cambelt and tensioners, think old one may have slipped slightly and caused the problem
  13. Diagnostic shows that the Fuel Pump Injection Timing Valve is at fault. Does anyone know if this is a bolt off and on repair
  14. Thanks Darren, it will occasionally boost up over 3000 rpm, but other than that it seems turbo less, its going on the machine tomorrow to see whats what, i'll post the out come when i know more. Cheers Keith.
  15. Hi everyone havn't been on for a while, anyhow. Octavia 1.9 tdi 90bhp, runs as if there's no turbo, lost power over the day, the car is a taxi base car, it's on a 53 plate and done 160000 miles, it had a new turbo fitted in July this year. I am wondering if it is the airflow meter, i've tryed one from another car that i know works (110 tdi) but it made no difference, is this because the ecu needs resetting to the new airflow meter and the fault clearing, there are no flshing codes displayed on the dash, it's as if it is running in limp mode. If you take off the intercooler pipe from the egr valve you can feel the turbo blow through at a fair rate, but there is no load when free reving this is why i thought maybe airflow. Any ideas would be most appreciated Keith:confused:
