  1. Do any readers of this blog in France have any information on what might be happening to collectively get some form of compensation for the dieselgate scandal? I know that consumer rights in France have always been behind the curve, nevertheless something should be happening. Thanks
  2. So you want one for the look rather than for any practical reasons? Oh dear. Do you dye your hair as well? I mean, just for the look?
  3. Cut a potato in half and smear it over the windscreen. It's an old and effective method.
  4. And the moral of the story is don't take your Yeti to a Renault franchise! In France it appears that anyone with a few spanners and a ramp can hang a Renault sign outside their shed.
  5. Do any Yeti owners in France know if the Control Technique (MOT) will be failed if the upgrade is not carried out? I live about as far as it's possible to get from a Skoda main dealer and I don't really want the hassle.
  6. The UK police will generally allow a tolerance of actual speed +10% +3mph. This more than compensates for your cosine correction hangup.
  7. Which engine and how many miles, Bill?
  8. I can't see FM being terminated, there would be a huge nationwide uproar of protest, particularly as DAB is so flaky in some areas. It is unreasonable to expect an entire country to junk perfectly serviceable FM receivers (not just in cars) in favour of a questionable, power-hungry alternative.
  9. Thanks baldeagle. I have used their branch at Brive for a minor warranty issue (which they dealt with promptly). I bought my Yeti from the Bordeaux dealer who was ok, but the one in Perigueux was so rude and offhand I vowed never to go back. Unfortunately I live about as far away from a dealer as it's possible to be in France!
  10. All good to hear - can you name the French dealer and location please?
  11. My advice would be to send it back and, in the circumstances, get the dealer to pick up any admin charge. He knows that if you took it to court he wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Good luck with it - please post the outcome on here! If you can, check to see if there has been any accident damage that may have altered the steering geometry or damaged the suspension set-up.
  12. Billshut! Did you buy it new? Do you know the history?
  13. What about the radio security code, if there is one?
  14. You can buy a USB - SD adaptor for less than £10. That might solve your dilemma. https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_6_7?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=usb+sd+card+adapter&sprefix=Usb+SD+%2Caps%2C267
  15. Here in France I have had a couple of plss-in-pocket letters (to give a warm feeling) but no sign of any action. I suspect it's going to get worse before it gets better.
  16. I too have just replaced a set of 4 Goodyear Four Seasons 225/50/R17 with another set of 2nd generation. They wore well, were good in the wet and phenomenal on ice and snow (140 4x4). My only comment about them is that they got noisy towards the end of their life, sounding a bit like a diff. whine. I paid 150€ each for the new ones, fitted, and got a 50€ kickback direct from Goodyear in France. How does that compare with your Kwikfit price?
  17. And your point is........?
  18. I'm guessing that Brexit has caused the revised residual value. Since the dealer has reneged on the agreement, I would demand the return of the deposit and walk away. It should be possible to replicate the original deal elsewhere. If the dealer is any good he will put pressure on the finance company to honour the original figures.
  19. Have you got the service history? Has it been clocked? It's probably the DMF that failed rather than the clutch wearing out, nevertheless 14k miles (if genuine) is nothing.
  20. My seals are good, but when clearing the windows a little outward hand pressure while sending the glass down and up again works wonders.
  21. I had exactly the same which turned out to be ageing tyres. I changed all 4 and the noise disappeared. The offending tyres were 225 50 17 Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons which were excellent in all other respects.
  22. Turn the radio off (on the radio) before turning the engine off and unplug the satnav from the fag lighter. That should fix the bongs but it won't fix a tired battery.
  23. Or DPF regeneration taking place?
  24. Michael, You are wise to skip the Dordogne this year. Your usual spot at Beynac is a nightmare as the road through is being widened over the river. This has meant alternating one-way traffic through the village. There is a 2m width restriction and traffic lights at each end. There is chaos every day with people jumping the lights and streams of traffic from both ends meeting in the middle. Chaos! Enjoy Lake Como!
  25. Try rubbing some vinegar into it on a bit of kitchen roll.
