  1. Hi, My VRS TDI had to go into the garage last week due to the ESP light being on. The investigation led to the finding of a common VAG issue with the ABS pump. Apparently a ABS pressure sensor has packed up on the ABS pump and that is what's causing the light to common on. A few weeks back this would have meant the whole ABS system would have had to be changed, approximately £1500, but because this particular component has failed on so many cars, VAG are now producing a repair kit which is about £140 plus a couple of hours labour. Only problem is, because sooooo many of these have failed and people haven't had them replaced because of the cost, now there is a cheaper way to get it fixed VAG have run out and the part is now on back order with a lead time of approx. 3 weeks! In the mean time I have no ABS, traction control or ESP because of the fault. Careful driving required!
  2. I get the same out of mine. I've done several brim to brim calculations and I reckon the MPG gauge is on the pessimistic side, it says average 42MPG and I'm getting 44MPG, it seems to be a trait of that type of engine. Welcome to the club.
  3. Cool! Head lamp unit coming out at the weekend then. Thanks guys.
  4. Hi, I've been getting the "bulb out" warning light come on intermittently for a couple of weeks, usually when it's wet. Figured out it was one of the side lights so i went to change it..........OMG! I suspect only a contortionist can get at these things or more than likely, a dealer with the know how and a cash register to fill! Has anyone got any tips or tricks on how to replace the front side light and/or indicator bulb without taking the light cluster out? Thanks.
  5. Hi, I've been an owner of a Octavia VRS PD TDI now for 3 weeks and loving it, but this latest spell of cold weather has highlighted an issue and I wondered if anyone had any ideas. Basically from cold, I'm having to turn the car over twice to get it to fire. First time it sort of "half fires" but then nothing, but the second time it will fire and catch, but is really lumpy until it's turned over for a few seconds. Not being a VRS owner very long I wasn't sure if there was a well know issue with these engines in the cold. Any ideas?
  6. Hi All, Finally after years of wanting one, I purchased a 56plate VRS TDi at the weekend and I'm certainly not disappointed! I'm looking forward to reading the forums on here and gaining some invaluable knowledge from you all.
  7. Hi onmeheadson, Good to know that someone else is seeing the same. Surely some of the more seasoned owners will have some thoughts on this.
  8. Hi, Another new member. Picked up a 56 Plate 5 door VRS TDi at the weekend in race blue, the smile hasn't left my face yet, very impressed. I do have a couple of questions that I don't seem to be able to get answers for though so wondered if you guys had any thoughts on them. 1) My daily journey to work is 44 miles, 16 of those are on A roads with about 4 major roundabouts so a bit of stop start, the remaining 28 are motorway and are usually pretty good. I used to have a Mondeo CR 130 diesel which would average about 47mpg on that journey, but with the VRS I'm struggling to get above 41mpg even when I'm being good. Does that sound about right for these engines? 2) I read before I brought it that the driveability of the 2.0 PD TDI was rough at low speeds, would remapping it help with that or is it likely to make it worse? Thanks.
