  1. Same as BossFox, I'm at 43mpg over the last 3.5k according to my trip computer. I don't think I could get close to that average MPG even in sport mode. Remove any mods and have it checked out before you dump it would be my advice.
  2. Had mine put in for a second year service last week and it's a CAVE engine. Haven't had any oil consumption issues really, 1.25l per 12k miles and no recall was mentioned.
  3. Has it had any serious fun yet? We took ours to Snowdonia at around 1750 miles and really gave it the beans up and down mountains. It really seemed to just settle it in a little after that short holiday.
  4. Stick with it. Lowest I get on my 20 mile commute through Wigan and Warrington is 33mpg if I drive it hard, normal is 38-45mpg depending on traffic. I've done 17.6k, I think your engine is just too young.
  5. Thanks all, good to know it's usually 40k. I haven't had any issues George and my car is only 17k at the moment. I just thought 60k was a bit high on this car, think i'll get them changed next service just to be on the safe side. Rather have an issue in warranty than outside.
  6. My local dealer has advised my spark plugs are good for 60k miles. After the issues some people have had on here I just wondered if anyone had them changed on second or third service? I can't say I have had any problems with them yet (*crosses fingers*) just being paranoid about broken plugs in turbos!
  7. Yep, as mentioned the crucial thing is speed. If you're on 2k revs in 7th gear you are using the engine as efficiently as possible, which is the downside for the VRS as it means you're doing about 50-55mph on a motorway. :wonder: We got close to 57mpg on a 100m trip to Yorkshire by 'crawling along' behind lorries. It's been mentioned a lot of times before that it would have been nice to have a higher 7th gear and really a low one is a bit pointless as 5th is all you need for performance. But we still love it and 7th gear is nice and responsive for lazy driving!
  8. Just as an FYI ours used 1.25l first 9500 and 250ml at 3500m after servicing. This thread makes me so sad, VAG needs to get it's act together, surely their reputation means something to them?
  9. Just to update with my progress on Winter Wheels.. After faffing around for a while I'd decided on the 195 55 15 (prolly conti's with the mytyres offer of £80 a corner atm) with steel wheels. So I contacted my insurer to see what extra cost would be involved.. (hoping none..) My insurers got back to me finally today. This is Quotemehappy.com's (AVIVA) policy on Winter Wheels.. So I tried to apply the modification online and it told me they couldn't even contemplate insuring that modification.. and if I want to talk to a real person about it I have to pay £25 as an admin fee. Needless to say next year I'll consider my options on more than just price, but this year I'm knackered and will have to put up with the 'safer' OEM equipment... Not even considering having 40 profile 205's as winter tyres with the black alloy damage as a fellow briskodian has mentioned, minimal side wall protection and no added comfort of a more cushioned ride when not 'using the car'. I wonder if they know Skoda dealers are recommending 185's with 15" steel wheels as the Manufacturer recommended option?! So buyer beware, might be one to avoid if you are considering any mods in future (among about 500 options, roof rack and debadging are considered policy changing mods btw..).
  10. Not too keen on them, in this country with our amount of dull and rainy days they might be worth considering tho. I'm UK btw.
  11. Yep it's for the Vrs. Wondered about the 16's, might be a better option.. Hadn't thought of scrappies might shoot down our local and see what they have. Can at least see them in person then. Thanks all.
  12. I was looking through E-Bay yesterday and considering my options for winter wheels. I know there's about 1 gazillion threads of this like already, but my question is less facts and figures than the actual activity of buying them.. By this I mean I was going through all the E-Bay steel wheels for Golfs etc and thinking I don't have a bloody clue. I have read the posts telling me which are compatible and I'm looking at pictures of some of them, but how do I know if they are knock off Chinese things made of plastic bags and gum or have been owned by a nutcase who jumped potholes for a living? I saw some supposedly genuine 15" skoda new ones for around £171 quid for a set delivered but that seemed a bit steep? Has anyone been looking recently and found any good deals for a Fabia VRS MkII on winter steels or complete wheels? I'm looking for 195 55 15 solutions ideally due to the lower cost of the tyres and the higher side wall to give my back a rest. Be really greatful if someone had a couple of good deals they were willing to share? Can PM me if you'd rather.
  13. Just to update; Much swearing and sweating later and it's out! Was close to giving up but one last go got the blighter!
