  1. Hammer method works. You don’t have to hit hard so you can be accurate and powerful enough to get it off. Thanks for the advice and to BriSkoda once again. You People Rock.
  2. Thanks. I was working away on the car when I hd a quick look under the bonnet. I wiggled the Alternator leads then gave the headlight a thump and the full beam came back on again So it was both loose connections or one or the other. Still think the damp in the dash is a problem
  3. Hi. Thanks for looking. So the dash has been on and off over the last 6 months (damp dependent) but now the dipped headlights look like they're on minimal power so I actually have to do something about it. So... Do I do a complete dashboard change ?? Have you done one?? I am actually looking forward to it. Any tips would be great (steering wheel out?) Thanks, Billy
  4. Hi Everyone, Hope you had a good Christmas and have a great New Year. My Dashboard works intermittently. I've followed this thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/213692-speedo-instrument-cluster-problems-solved/ This looks like the solution however could before I launch into computronic electro car killing mode could anyone please advise on whether it could be the Main Fuses above the battery? On the two occasions that I've looked at the battery fuses there has been an effect on the dash or it worked again(ish) for a short period. Does anyone know which Main Fuse serves the instrument cluster? The instrument cluster fuses in the fuse board look ok (1 & 16 I think) but could they be duff irrespective of appearances? Thanks for any advice fellow Skoda lovers. Billy
  5. My handle broke and it was very difficult to get the bonnet open. Took the whole mechanism off and put it back on again negative handle (not working anyway) and tried pliers on the cable. This just didn't work for ages until finally the wife came home and sat on the bonnet! As soon as she released the tension with her fat bum the cable easily pulled through. Time for some grease under the bonnet! In the words of Freddie Mercury... "Fat bottomed girls you make the rocking world go round" Billy
  6. Yes the pin trick worked for me thanks for that. Now for the broken bonnet release catch! Thanks BriSkodians. Billy
  7. Hi Fellow Sufferers, I removed my rear drivers side window yesterday. Tip 1: Window Regulator Roll Pins: It looks like one part but is actually two. An inner and an outer. Remove the Inner Roll Pin by screwing in an M5 sized bolt then get hold of the bolt and extract Inner Pin with pliers. Easy. I was using pliers to remove the outer roll pin for a long time after screwing in an M8 sized screw. After I gave up and removed the screw the Outer Roll Pin came out with pliers anyway. It must have eased up when the M8 screw went in. If I did this again I would just put it in the screw/bolt and then take it out again and try plier extraction. Tip 2: To extract the glass remove the rubber seals x 2. Then position the rear edgeof the glass just behind the Rear Quarter Window frame and lift. As you lift you will be able to get your fingers behind the glass and pull it towards you and away from the frame. Tip 3: Remain patient. Good luck, I'm just about to take a hammer to the locking mechanism! Billy.
  8. Hi there, So the Door Carrier is out and I've got to that hmmm frustrating point where you realise your going to have to break off the lock.... I think. Not gonna do the Dremmel thing or I will lose fingers. Does anyone have any alternative methods... If I could just open the door I could remove everything cleanly. Thanks for any ideas you have. Will bring out the Hammer in the morning if I have to? Billy
  9. Yes its the one at Evans Halshaw. Theres silver paint which shows signs of a repair on the grill but then again Im no mechanic, I could be wrong. There was just no loving given to this car and although I would love to have spent money on her I just couldnt afford it as its at the top end of my price range. Managed to get a 53 plate Comfort Fabia 1.9 TDI with 45K on the clock for £2500 so my search is over....for now...I will find a VRS!!
  10. Gutted. No evidence of cambelt change. Faults and general signs of disrespect everywhere. Keep looking.
  11. Thanks RTZ if she's no good I don't mind travelling back up North. Im on my way to Newport now. It'll be good to call on you if I can. Thanks again.
  12. Thanks for yr tips will give it a look over tomorrow. I am in need of a car and their are more expensive ones. It also has a warranty that should cover it till I can get a cambelt on her. Hopefully the car will do 200k with regular services and cambelts every 30K.
  13. Thanks Ben90 I will look around the engine bay for stickers and call Skoda up.
