  1. Had an Ibiza 2 years ago, had the bodykit fitted which looked ok but interior wise it was basic - fitted the black stick on trims, silver handles, etc but it never really had any quality feel about it. Mine was the 1.4 and would struggle on the motorways to get to 70mph without dropping down into 4th :( Well dealer got back to me yesterday about the grey Polo - won't come down from £9995 for a 2010 23k car which is £500+ above what it's worth retail - gutted - still looking
  2. Still undecided as i'm leaning towards 3 doors which is why i enquired about a Polo again today - salesman was supposed to get back to me tonight but hasn't? I've been looking at some pics on the Polo forums - nice 17" 2 tone Audi reps suit the car, H+R springs, A3 tailpipe trim, GTi grille, splitter, etc,etc - so many mods available
  3. So what mileage/ age are cars having engines swapped? and what warranty is given on a replacement? - if the car is almost 3 years aold and a new engine is fitted after the car reaches 3 years old do they wash their hands and ask for owners to pay if the new engine develops the same problem?
  4. Sounds a decent enough engine I was looking at Polos and for a low mileage 2010my they go for around £10k, same mileage and money a Fabia is maybe a year newer - so is the Polo or Fabia the better buy? Polo - nicer interior with chrome bits, better dash, looks chunkier on the bodywork, more accessories available, 3 door available Fabia - newer car for same money, Monte looks sporty Any more pros or cons?
  5. Hoping for some reviews on the 1.2 TSI 105bhp engines as after being put off the VRS i'm thinking of either the Monte or Polo SEL which has same engine. What are these like ti live with as a daily? reliable, economical (figures say 51mpg combined - is this right)? What are they like on steep hills - do they pull up on the turbo or do you have to drop a gear or 2? Are they quiet engine/ interior wise? Wanting something VAG again after the new Swift Sport but don't want something slower Thanks
  6. I had a ST2 (2007my) a couple of years ago, common problems included oil filter housing diaphram, power steering hose, driveshafts, ABS module, wheels bearings, alternator - not bullet proof cars and the problems were expensive ones :( i'd have another as long as it came with a comprehensive warranty
  7. Yep the engine problem is the big worry - as i don't keep cars long (average 3-4 months) if i can get 1 with a years warranty left i can sell it on later with remaining warranty which would help, no warranty then no/ little chance of passing it on? I haven't driven the new VRS (had a 2004 years ago with lots of mods) and was unsure of the DSG but it seems it's a good thing when you get used to it according to a lot of VAG owners? Doesn't seem to be much choice these days for <£10k cars upto 2 years old with a bit of performance, even later shape (2008>) STs and VXRs are £9k - £10k and they have numerous issues :(
  8. I have 1 which i'm looking to trade but not 100% decided what for? was looking at a Polo 1.2tsi but decided against it? - no rattles, 47-48mpg around town on my 7 mile commute and quiet to drive I bought mine when i was looking at a Fabia VRS, the oil problems on the VRS put me off but i'm thinking if i can get 1 less than 3 years old so still in warranty i should be ok? Anyone got a VRS in green, pref black roof/wheels in mint condition? might be open to a swap? mine - 2012, 12 plate, 8000 miles
  9. If a car is over 3 years old so out of manuf warranty will they still offere a fix for excessive oil useage as it's a known problem or will they refuse?
  10. Well went for a look at the silver VRS - 3 kerbed alloys and a big gap between the bonnet and front wing (you could see the bolts on top of the wing through the gap) Looking around the web for other cars for sale i found what i'm picking up tommorow left a deposit after a 3 day haggling match (managed another £700 for my p/x) - 540 mile round trip which i'm not looking forward to but it's the only chance i've got to get there :( This is more expensive than the VRSs i looked at but is less than a year old and only has 7k on the clock - cheaper to run, manual (don't think i'd have enjoyed the dsg all the time), nippy (not as quick as the VRS) and blue Suzuki Swift Sport
  11. Not easy trying to find a mint car - i buy almost all my cars online so rely on the sellers description and 80% of the time they're acurate and the other 20% of the time they've failed to spot something/ lied/ misled about condition, history, etc. I only have the weekends (unless i have to work saturdays) to visit dealers and most cars are 100+ miles away which is a pain when i get there (like todays visit) to find the car not as described over the phone/ internet I was thinking of the Monte as it looks ok and should be nippy (i'm guessing) and for £10k i can get one a year old The VRS should be as quick as if not quicker than the Clio, more economical (i'm getting 26mpg around town taking it very steady), newer (ok for an extra £2k it should be), more comfy and better built (hate rattles) - i would prefer a Polo GTi but they're an extra £4k Might have a drive over to see the silver VRS tommorow - saw it in passing the other day but it was sat in a compound filthy so i didn't see it properly
  12. Yeah - last week it was in for it's service and today i was told warranty work as well? now wondering if it's in their bodyshop or waiting for a new engine or something? maybe it's been lent out to a customer who's thrashing the nuts out of it :(
  13. Update - did a 140 mile round trip to see/drive the Motordepot car which i left a deposit on, came home not a happy chappy :( o/s/r door has been repainted - looking down the side i noticed a lot of ripples and looking at the rubber underneath the window it was covered in paint Went to look at the other car at jct and it still wasn't there? salesguy said it was in with skoda having a service? it's been there for almost 2 weeks now so something is fishy???? There's a silver 1 i've been online (no piccies though) which has a few extras - not sure on silver as i wanted the green or blue - has anyone got pics of silvers VRSs so i can see how it looks before wasting my day again tommorow? Thinking maybe i should go for a monte instead?
  14. Thanks - i did find some nice velour ones on the superskoda website - just got to wait till the weekend when i test drive the car to make sure i'm getting it before i place the order for all the bits i've bookmarked on their website Are there any other websites for accessories for the Fabia apart from superskoda and ebay? would be nice to find some chrome/ alloy bits to bling the interior up a bit to bring it upto Audi standards
  15. Well i did enquire about 2 montes, dealers were supposed to ring me back today but didn't so i phoned back about the VRS to check the service history, when he said it had it i decided to go for that instead. Do Skoda not do VRS mats for the later models as they did with the MK1?
  16. Hope i will - black grille 1st mod on list, nice mats (do Skoda do velour ones?), eibach in future (for looks), remap, front spoiler, black headlights - damn, thought this was going to be a cheap car
  17. ok another update - Bought the Motordepot car with 11k as the salesmanager has confirmed tonight it has 2 stamps in the book so warranty intact Calling over next weekend
  18. Not sure on the front brakes but the VRS has discs on the rears where the Monte has drums (from pics i've seen)
  19. Well not much of an update The 11000 mile car at Motordepot has no options at all but also no stamps in the service book so that's off the list The 30000 mile car at jct has fsh, climate, black roof, chrome alloys (yuck) and i'm thinking with this mileage any problems should have been sorted? Anyone else have a VRS with high mileage?
  20. What's FL? The car i'm looking at is a 2010 model (01/10) with the chrome lights and grille - if i bought it i'd want to swap to black lights + grille
  21. Are the chrome headlights easy to swap to the black ones (easy to remove/ plug+play)? Can the armrest be fitted aftermarket? Any idea on prices and best place to buy? Thanks
  22. I've been offered £8k for the Clio - both dealers say book price is £7700 - £8k I paid £9k, spent quite a bit since - rear spoiler in paint/fit - £350, 4 new tyres - £380, black speedlines - £300, filters - £50 Problem selling private is it can take a while, too many timewasters and if sold it's difficult getting to view replacement cars - much easier to trade in JCT text me today knocking another £300 off their car - not enough when the motordepot 1 has 19k less miles Didn't leave a deposit today - think i'll drive over tommorow and see it in the flesh and see if i like how it drives before commiting
  23. Due to new regs in the MOT if the car had a DPF from factory it must be present to pass MOT The new way to get rid is to have the DPF removed from the car, the centre (honeycombe part) is then drilled/ smashed out which leaves the pipe "straight through" and refitted. When MOT is done the tester can see a DPF fitted (doesn't know it's empty) and it passes. Most tuners say the car then needs remapping when it's removed
  24. Been driving 24 years, average ownership over last 15 years is 2-3 months due to boredom Most cars have been "hot hatches" - Focus ST, Imprezas (x3), TT, Astra VXR, Corsa VXR (lasted 3 weeks), Golf GTi (edition30), Cupra, etc - also had a couple of Freelanders and 5 BMWs in the mix Currently own a Triumph Street Triple R which i've had for just over a year which i don't think i'll ever get to ride again due to the crappy weather :(
