  1. Oh I thought they all had it changed. Either way gearbox is faultless and works great. I assume I'll need to change it every few years or are they supposedly sealed for life? It does use a bit of oil but way within tolerance and a lot of journeys are sub 5 mile 15 minute commutes. I'll be keeping the Skoda warranty renewed every year for now just in case!
  2. Yep, we've got a 2010 red '60 plate' estate absolutely standard on 29k miles and only work carried out outside of servicing according to the service book was the dsg recall for fluid change. Was bought by us from Skoda in May. Chris
  3. Thanks for the reassurance. I bought it knowing they use a bit of oil and this amount seems fine to me. It's a small price to pay for such a cracking small estate!
  4. Hi Just a quick question. We bought a 2010 vrs estate with 28k on the clock just over 2 months ago. It has completed 1200 miles and have just added 500ml of oil to take it from just above the base of the hatchings to the top. It has covered 500m on long mway journeys and the rest nipping round town. From reading through the thread, this doesn't seem too bad and is well within tolerance quoted in the handbook. It is a cave engine with full service history and no paperwork to suggest any warranty work done. It's got a years Skoda warranty so want to make sure it's all right before it runs out as we intend to keep this as our second car for the next 5 years. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks Chris
  5. We've just picked up a vrs estate. It is a 2010 on a 60 plate as my wife's car and dog transporter. It was an eyes open purchase as I've read a lot about the oil issues with cave engines. I mitigated the risk as much as I could by buying a low mileage car (28000) with fssh and from a main dealer with a years warranty. We are about 600 miles in now and the oil is still in the top bit above the hatch markings, but has dropped a little bit. Probably less than 100ml. I expect to put a bit of oil in as it's a characteristic of the engine. Of it does go post shaped I have the warrant to fall back on. My advise would be but from a dealer or of bought elsewhere get the official Skoda warranty, it is about 300 or so. As for the car? Much bigger inside than expected, it gathers speed so quickly and the gearbox is brilliant especially on the paddles. Makes a nice noise as well. There is no comparable small estate for the price I paid with this level of performance and equipment. Chris
