  1. Hi, I have a MK1 Octavia 1.9 tdi, yesterday the power steering started making a horrible noise, I checked the fluid and it was low. I have looked under the car today and its leaking from the drivers side Can anyone recommend where I could buy a steering rack please? Are they easy to fit and has anyone got any tips on fitting one? Are they all the same on the MK1s or any other car? Can it be done with the wheels on? I have drive up ramps to do it at home Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks
  2. This is where i see so many of them been broken on facebook. Mine has rusty sills and because has a dent on rear quarter that has rusted. I cannot wait to get it all sorted and on the road. My main thing is the A/C has to work I love my A/C. It would have been the perfect time to do it all at the moment on the drive, but it is so far away 😞 Instead I have been fixing Fiestas.
  3. Thanks So the engines / gear boxes go and then they are broken for spares? Ah well i think mine is all ok fingers crossed on that front. I was making sure there is not a common place they rot out or something.
  4. Hi All, I had VRS years ago and the Ibiza FR. I have always wanted to get a standard one again, and found it difficult finding one. One come up for sale near me, lass owned it for last 12 years dad a mechanic had changed oil regular on it. It is a 2004 but the body work is crap… driving it had no knocks or bangs and runs perfect. It currently parked up 100 mile away ☹ As I did not have room for it before the lock down. Why are so many people breaking these cars? What kills them? Is there anything I should check on the car before ploughing lots of money into it.. I probably over paid for the car, but I did not buy it to make money on it. As soon as I can get my hands on it, I intend on getting body work sorted maybe full respray and then cambelt full kit, brakes strip down etc and good check over. Anything anyone would recommend doing? I do a lot of miles with work, and this is doing to be my main car 😊 I think these engines go on for ever, no complicated DPFS etc to worry about. I do not intend on having it mapped and want to keep it 100% standard. My last ones were mapped etc but I was 10 years younger and now I need it to cover a lot of miles. I may consider a MAP actually but Ill post about that when I am thinking it, as I need reliability and economy. Suppose I am just interested why I see lots of these been broken for spares, yet they look like they are in good condition.
  5. Thanks, Yea the fault code is over boost P code... The inlet and EGR have just been cleaned out and the EGR is blanked.
  6. Update The turbo is now the same as previous one... slight touch of pedal and major over boost. I have no idea what is causing this:(
  7. HI All My car is the ASV 110BHP TDI MK1 Octavia, it had turbo issues so I went out and purchased a recon Delphi turbo… thinking all will be well. Fitted it with a new oil feed cleaned inlet blanked egr etc. I have been driving the car about a week, and it is over boosting :( It only over boosts at lower rpm when climbing a hill, so I did not detect it straight away but suspect it has done this since turbo has been fitted. I have swapped the N75 valve and this had not made a difference. I am suspecting it is the actuator arm which may need adjusting, but I thought Delphi would have done this. I have also no experience in doing this but willing to learn… Anyone got any tips please? On anything else I can check ? I have had a enough of this car.. O yea I have full vagcom so can carry out any checks with that. Thanks, Jon
  8. Hi All, I have finally got around to installing DAB into the MK1.. I have ran a magnetic aerial up the A frame and out onto the roof via the back door seal looks all ok to be honest wire is well hidden. Problem I am having is I am getting a very weak DAB signal. Mmy stereo has the option to power the DAB aerial which is turned on.... but this does not make a difference I have tried everything. The question i have is... The blue wire on the back of the head unit which is remote ( Used for amps etc) I use to power the Analogue aerial on the Octavia, otherwise it gets a weak analogue signal. WIth this wire powering the Analogue will this stop the power going to the DAB? Personally I do not think it will, but I am stuck with this! My next option is to buy a different DAB Magnetic aerial, the one I have come from eBay. Anyone installed DAB in a MK1 got any tips please?? My stereo is a Sony MEX N600 Thanks,
  9. Thanks for the reply's Today I have got the door open... I forced the door card off and put power to the wires for the motor, this unlocked the door. Anyone else with this issue it is the Grey & Yellow wires, cut them and put 12v to them motor activated and unlocked the door. WIth the leak I am going to try and seal it with a sealant gun, disconnect the window & central locking in that door. It is not used very often anyway, the window is not used at all. I give up trying to stop it leaking, and at the moment I dont have the time :( I may give it another go in the summer. I bought the car weeks ago, so far I have: Mr Muscle turbo, replaced alternator + alternator wiring, replaced rear caliper, & these leaks/door sticking shut. Luckily I have a 2003 Elegance I am stripping for spares so been able to get the parts for nothing. Next problem is the switch in the drivers door :( assuming the leak is fixed ill start with that next.
  10. Hi All, Just got myself a Laurin Klement estate, and very disappointing to find actual puddles in the drivers front/rear foot wells. I have searched the forums, and i think located my leak. The rear door weather srtip is allowing lots water into the door, and the door has no membrane. Couple of questions though The weather strip is allowing lots of water into the door as i cannot get it to press against the window... I have bought a new 1 from Skoda, fitted it and still if you pour water on the window it goes straight into the door. All the other doors the weather strip is pressed hard against the window which stops majority of the water entering the door. This is a problem as all the rain water is going straight into the door, andsoaking all the mechanisms. The central locking at the moment is stuck locked on the door due to this. The other thing is what is the best way to replace the membrane? all tapes I have used just come off after days in cold weather. I am at the point where I am considering sealing the weather strip with silicone and disconnecting the window motor :( Any ideas will be appreciated This is my 8th MK1 and I am starting to fall out with it!! Thanks,
  11. Hi All, My Octavia mk1 TDI 52 plate, last week boiled the fluid and lost brakes! I was told ( Did not look myself) that it was both rear calipers. I have replaced the calipers to find the handbrake is sticking on at both sides. So I need to fit new handbrake cables tomorrow. Anyone got any tips when fitting/adjusting the new cables? Do they just thread through the metal tubing up past the exhaust and pop up in the car? hope that makes sense, i am very tired lol, worked all day come home to do discs pads, both rear calipers, changed the brake fluid and now it needs cables! Thanks and tips tricks will be appreciated. Jon
  12. Thanks for the replies. I am playing it safe the 110 is going to be driven up to tow the trailer back... Then I will try the trailer on the 90 for a short drive see how it is, if all ok it can do a big trip with it. My poor 110 does get used!! I lug my caravan around withit as well, but it takes it well. Oil change every 6k only thing I have done is fit a turbo to it, as that went with a big bang!.
  13. Hello all, I have 2 Octavias MK1 TDI's. An 90BHP Auto & a 110 Remapped to 137 ( Blacksmoke Map) Anyway I towed a trailer with my remapped 110, and it struggled! it would not go over 58MPH. It is not the weight o the trailer but the air resistance ( Big box trailer). Anyway I need to tow this trailer now if possible with my 90BHP auto for a 5 hour drive. Just wondered if anyone has towed with an auto? I am concerned as it has a lot less power than my 110 manual. Thanks, Jon
  14. I have owned 6 of these all had air in the clear pipe. My understanding was when it was running wont it bleed its self? air gets pushed down the return line. Also when changing the fuel filter fill your new one with diesel before fitting it!!. If it is running fine and bit air in clear line I would leave it alone, don't fix what is not broken :)
  15. To test i it is the door module could he disconnect it for now and see if the problem goes away? If it was that shorting out etc, surely the remove locking and door lock will still operate.
