  1. I'm afraid not, I was looking over the RAC guys shoulder, I didn't see the actual code, just "engine control unit blocked" next to the code. The RAC chap commented that it was taking an unusually long time to read anything at all. He turned the light off while my car was running, I went for a drive, the light stayed off, it came back on the next time I restarted the engine. It starts and drives perfectly. The ABS light is also on and thats never been on before either, the handbrake engaged indicator is also flashing now even though the handbrake is off.
  2. Hello everyone, I haven't visited here in a while, good to see there is still plenty of trusty MK1's about. Can anyone please give me a bit of advice regarding my first ever engine management light ? Due to my departure from the taxi industry and a move 300 miles south west to Newquay my Superb has stood idle on the drive for a couple of months, its always been very well maintained, serviced etc but needed a new battery which I had fitted on the drive yesterday by the RAC, all was well, car started fine, feels fine, pulls like a train, no symptoms at all other than the light on the dash, according to the RAC guys diagnostics kit it reports "engine control unit blocked". My car is decatted, egr removed, remapped by a well known guy recommended often on the forums, could anyone please suggest a course of action and tell me if I can still drive it like it is ? My regular mechanic is obviously now 300 miles away and most people here just have tractors or skateboards, really hoping I don't need to go to a VW dealer.... Many thanks all for reading and any advice.
  3. Oh ok, I don't think I've ever had those done. Maybe that's worth a look too. Thank you.
  4. I bought a Meyle HD kit at the same time as the shocks and springs, pretty sure the ARB links were part of the kit, not sure about track rod ends or rack arms. Rack arms isn't a term I've heard before, what are they ?
  5. Well it's just that I've changed everything else, shocks, springs, top mounts, arms etc and the left hand side of the car still feels a bit clunky compared to the right, it's a bit of an ambiguous clunk, not obviously coming from the front or rear wheels so I was thinking maybe subframe bushes ?
  6. Hi all, could some of you enlightened folk tell me about subframe bushes please ? How many of them are there ? What kind of product should I buy as a replacement, that kind of thing. Of course I've done a search on here but it's just lead to more confusion, are rear axle bushes the same thing ? How much is it likely to cost to replace them all and does anyone know of a kit that that can be purchased ? Many thanks.
  7. Can anyone help me diagnose this : when accelerating from standing start revs climb without much acceleration, once I'm moving and up to 3rd gear acceleration feels almost normal. It does almost feel like the clutch is partially engaged and it seems to be worse when it gets warm but wouldn't it be the same in every gear if it was the clutch ? The turbo is fairly new, clutch and flywheel were done 40,000 ago and has juddered ever since they were replaced, garage said they would replace it under warranty but could never manage to reproduce the judder when they had my car, some days it judders all day, some days it seems to work normally. Many thanks....
  8. Yes no problem mate, shout up whenever you fancy doing it. I reckon you'll run off and buy a kit straight after
  9. I'd be glad to help, you'll be pleasantly surprised I think, they really are comfortable, I've often had four passengers over speed bumps too, no problems. Unless you see it right next to a stock Superb it's not really glaringly obvious it's been lowered.
  10. OP I see you're in Brum, I'm only in Tamworth, if you want to know what a B12 kit feels like on an 06 Superb I'll take you for a drive if you find yourself over this way.
  11. £732 was the price I paid for the kit and Shark offered me a very good price fitted. I took the kit and had it fitted elsewhere though and ended up going back to Shark to sort the problem I mentioned in another thread. You live, you learn.
  12. I can tell you from personal experience the B12 kit (B8 shocks & Eibach springs) is a very good choice. Mine ended up 20mm lower, no problem with speed bumps and the ride is actually more comfortable than the Sachs shocks and factory springs I had previously. I purchased mine from Shark Peformance in Mansfield and can thoroughly reccomend them, I've been to many, many garages and these guys were the most helpful, professional service I have ever seen. They go for around £730 for the kit and are worth every penny.
  13. Hi all, can anyone please tell me which rear suspension parts could benefit from renewal on a high mileage Superb ? Recently changed all the obvious parts, wondering now about subframe bushes, rear axle bushes etc... My mechanic insists my subframe bushes don't need changing and he's never had to change any, a bit of reading suggests otherwise, can anyone advise on what to buy and anything to avoid ? Recently had all new shocks, springs, ctrl arms, car feels 98% good but rear on passenger side has a knock I just can't get rid of. Many thanks.
  14. Thanks for reply. They look like they are located correctly, we've had them back out once already to check, new spring pads went in at the same time. They still knock quite harshly, nearside seems worse. Some people are telling me even progressive springs can go in any way up, Eibach say they must go in so logos are the correct orientation. When I've looked at the rears on other cars fitted with these springs there always seems to be a group of coils at the bottom much closer together, mine don't look the same. Like I say I'm clutching at straws with the upside down theory. With enough weight in the rear of the car it starts to feel much better...
  15. Hi all, do any of you guys that have b12 pro kit springs by any chance have any pics of how the rear springs look from underneath with the weight of the car on them ? I've been trying to chase down a problem with the rears being a terribly harsh ride, my mechanic has had them out twice now to check for seating issues etc and all appears ok. They are of course installed with the logos right side up but I've heard of a couple of cases of them leaving the factory with the logos on upside down and I'm just clutching at straws looking for a visual comparison. Most of the people here that have mentioned owning a set seem very happy with them and I've driven a Pasatt with the same kit fitted and it's nowhere near as harsh a ride as mine, in fact it felt awsome and it was an older, higher mileage car than my Superb. Does anyone please have any helpful suggestions ? Many thanks....
  16. Ok, thanks. The supplier told me it was 20mm but yours looks lower than that at the back, maybe it's just that pic. Nice looking car though....
  17. It sits very low too compared to mine, saw your pics in the Superb projects section. Mine is a good two inches higher than yours at the rear. That is a B12 kit right ? Love those wheels with that finish on by the way, if you ever find yourself wanting to sell them consider them sold....
  18. Yes, measured in my garage which is about as level as I'm going to find. Thanks for replies anyway. After googling “car not sitting level on Eibachs” it seems to be a fairly common complaint, just wondered if it had happened to any of you guys here.
  19. Did any of you folks that have purchased Bilstein kits have any issues with the car not sitting level after installation ? Not long got mine back after having a B12 kit and Meyle HD kit fitted and it feels great, thing is the nearside rear seems to sitting 14mm higher than the offside rear and it seems to be making the nearside front look a tiny bit higher too. Obviously measurements were taken on absolutely level ground....
  20. Ok, thank you for the reply, I've removed all the moisture several times now but it always comes back overnight even with the caps securely fitted. It's kind of a light misting over the whole unit....
  21. Hi all, went into my local ATS for some new tyres and a couple of bulbs a few days ago and now I have one headlamp fogging up constantly. These are a new pair of headlamp units and I specifically asked them to be careful as they were purchased because the caps were missing or broken on the old ones and they were obviously always full of moisture. It turns out the smaller of the two caps on my nearside unit was not replaced at all but just left loose behind the headlamp. They advised me to dry it out with a hair dryer and replace the cap. Well I spent much of Friday afternoon with a hair dryer and cleaned out every drop of moisture, replaced the cap, checked it was a good fit and this morning... It's all fogged up again.. Could anyone advise me of the best way to clear up this problem, the garage in question seem to think they have no further responsibility now they've refitted the cap... Many thanks.....
  22. Ok, I think I'm convinced, thank you. I'm going to go for some B6's and one of those Meyle HD control arm kits. Have you got any advice about what other suspension bits I might replace at the same time seeing as I'll be saving a few quid on springs ? So far I've done top mounts, rear axle bushes and ARB bushes. Thanks again....
  23. So how do you evaluate the condition of the springs you have installed to see if just adding the B6 shocks is an option ? I suspect mine are ok, I had a full set from a forum member and they have many less miles on them than my car, they've had plenty of use since I've had them installed though. I feel that my car rolls around way to much in corners and over speed bumps but I still hear an awful bang bang going over small bumps like expansion joints in carriageways and pitted Tarmac makes the whole thing rattle like crazy. Having watched a few before and after videos of a big heavy BMW having some Bilsteins fitted I was kind of thinking the firmer shorter springs would solve the rolling about and the better quality damping would solve the rattling effect from the smaller bumps. It seems like I might have a fundamental misunderstanding of which bits do what though. Thanks again though guys for any advice, it is very much appreciated.
