  1. Good point gizmo, forgot to mention the extra tax £1600 over 5 years despite the lower emissions. Typical of this governments hidden taxes, anyway it is what it is, still good value at about the same price as a superb sel.
  2. Just an update to this thread as I have just replaced my 2011 Superb with an bmw 520i msport estate. I got a cracking deal on a preregistered 2019 £46k car for £27.5k. I thought about another superb but was slightly put off by the dsg box, although I had no problem with mine, and fancied something different. Still not sure I made the right decision, I looked at the e class, Volvo v70 and the Jag Xf. The BMW is not as practical as the Superb has less room in the cabin and the boot, but it does feel more premium to drive. I have had bmw before and remember having similar beefs with the specification, mine has the comfort pack, where you get stacks of technology that sounds good but does not really add up to a lot in everyday driving and also has some surprising omissions. For example the map display in the superb showed the current speed limit, which I found really useful, you don’t get this unless you spec the technology pack on the beemer. A couple of other things I discovered is I don’t like is a stop/start system that has to be overridden every time you start the car and blacked out privacy glass on the rear windows which makes it quite hard to see out on a dark winter day. I suspect these features are becoming standard on most modern cars. The other thing is how noisy the engine is outside the car with a weird farty exhaust note although you don’t hear either in the car. Sounds quite ungracious after being fortunate enough to go to a new motor but thought other Superb owners might be interested, I did 65k in mine In 8 years and think it was one of the best I have owned.
  3. Mine has been fine apart from the hill problem. Does that mean if I buy a 18 plate petrol it will still have the same dry 7 speed?
  4. Thanks all for your posts. My existing car has the hill hold which works fine, say at traffic lights on a hill. However If you are parking on a hill, either forward or reverse, if you ease off the gas the car can suddenly loose traction and run forward or backward. It’s done it from new and you get used to it by using the handbrake but my wife finds it quite unnerving. You tend to forget about it unless you regularly park on a hill. My car has the 2.0 litre 160bhp engine which I have always found adequate although 220bhp does sound tempting. I have been looking at nearly new Superbs, around 27k for elegance and 30k for L&K, whereas similar age 2018 demonstrator BMWs are around 36k for a 2.0 litre 228 bhp or 38k for a 2.0 litre 276bhp. Amazing how they produce such a wide range of power with the same capacity engine. I had a 6 pot 5 series before the Superb. There is no doubt the Skoda is a well specified great value motor and I never regretted buying it in 2011. Perhaps I just fancy a change!
  5. I am thinking of replacing my 2011 superb executive estate 2.0 Tsi. It’s done 54000 and has been good but I have a slight issue with the dsg box where it lets the car run back on hills if you take the foot of the gas whilst parking. Not sure if this problem has ever been resolved on the petrol engined cars, I think the 6 speed diesel is OK. I like top spec motors and have looked at the l&k and executive superb. I am tempted to move to 5 series tourer but wondered if any one could comment on the latest petrol engined dsg Superb.
  6. My climate control is not working correctly. Symptoms are fan speed modulates continuously and very little air comes out of the vents even when the fan speed is high. I use it on auto most of the time. Is this a sensor problem or indicative of fan failure?
  7. Always a problem, particularly if you buy new. Interesting point about diesels having better residuals, guess this could change soon with all the bad publicity regarding pollution levels and the market flooded with used diesels.
  8. Thanks for that. Westover phoned this morning to ask if I was satisfied with the service. Someone from the Service Dept will phone me Monday to discuss gearbox. I will try Meadens if I don,t get a result from Westover. I agree that Skoda should offer an extended warranty on DSG boxes particularly if they have been repaired under the 3 year warranty period. My car has done 29000 mls and the problem first appeared around 24/25000. Apart from the vibration, I have been pleased with the car which replaced a 5 series tourer.
  9. Just taken my Superb into Westover Bournemouth for its 3rd service. Not a bad experience, gave me a courtesy car, total cost was £151 for service, £39 for MOT and £63 to replace front and rear wipers. Wipers seemed a bit excessive. The Skoda badges were replaced for the second time as they were showing signs of peeling. My main concern with the car is a vibration from the DSG gearbox, particularly in second gear. Westover said they had not come across this before but that Skoda had asked that they changed the gearbox oil. On collecting the car they said that the oil had been changed and this had resolved the problem. However it is no different. My problem now is. 1. Do I follow the matter up with Westover/Skoda UK, the warranty runs out on 18 June. 2. Change the car. 3. Just ignore it, its not too much of an issue at the moment, but will it get worst? I have seen reports on the forum before regarding a clutch pack being required, it seems odd that Westover were not aware this. Is there anybody who has successfully resolved this with Skoda under warranty?
  10. I understand VW are recalling 7 speed dsg vehicles for a gearbox oil change and wonder if this will be extended to Skoda and Seat cars? Mine has been OK for 25k, apart from being a pain to reverse up a steep hill and a slight vibration in 2nd. Anyone experienced any problems?
  11. I have just received an email offering a free 3 year policy, best described as accident management cover, You ring them directly if you have an accident an they deal with the insurance companies, repair outlet and legal matters. Does anyone have experience of this, I assume it is a Skoda product? Any catches?
  12. My Superb is coming up for its second service at 20,500 miles. Apart from a few random electrical glitches it has been trouble free although I notice both front fogs are continuously misted. Should I expect the dealer to replace the lights under warranty or do they simply reseal them?
  13. Amazing really. When I researched for a new motor in late 2010, finally placing my order for the Superb in early 2011, the Superb was winning plaudits from everyone. Top Gear voted it their family car of the year, I think Autocar also voted it best estate and the Caravan Club best tow car. Since then it hardly gets a mention and when it does is frequently voted behind the Passat and even Mondeo. I can only assume that the motoring press need to move on and try and come with something fresh. In the end you obviously make up your own mind, the forum helped me a lot, and I have been very pleased with my choice.
  14. I have covered 18000 mls in my superb. Average MPG recorded is between 36 and 38, obviously higher in the summer. Last year I did 1500 mls in two weeks through France and averaged 41. For me when I purchased in 2011 it was a no brainer as I saved about 5.5k compared with the diesel and up the spec to include electric tailgate, PDC all round, wood trim etc. Car is very quite and smooth with adequate performance, I had a 525 BMW before, but I do have a preference for petrol engines and have never had a diesel. Petrol cars warm up quicker and I reckon are just as economical for the first 5 ml or so. If you are doing mainly short trips, interpersed with some long stuff, then they make sense.
