  1. Some interesting thoughts many thanks all. I think they are well worn in now they have done 20 000 at least so maybe i should just go for new better pads I guess they could be the culprit to if that fails it looks like grooved disks!
  2. Hi sorry I perhaps did not make myself clear in my post I am not talking about aquaplaning also I could not agree more about safe wet driving and safe distances from car in front nothing annoys me more and I utterly condone drivers that do not heed this. The problem is rapid build up of water on brake disk surfaces i think so that when I brake there is nothing there due to water as soon as the water clears the brakes work again well. I know this happens to a degree on any brakes in the wet but this is very marked and despite trying to periodically clear water from them by gentle periodic application of the brakes. My concern is should I be presented with the need for an emergency stop in the wet the few seconds of no brakes due to water build up could be dangerous. thus I wonder if any other have encountered this problem and wonder if they have come across any solutions?
  3. The 312mm brake set up I find a vast improvement and am very pleased with it. Just recently I have noticed a problem. When driving down the motorway when it is wet and there is a lot of surface water. If I press the brakes nothing happens at first - like having no brakes. Clearly water on the disks. Periodic gentle break application does clear the water and the brakes then work well again. Though the problem can re-occur within a few seconds perhaps 30secs. It is odd as they never used to do this in the wet, other than wear of pads and disks (though loads of life left in them) nothing has changed. Standard wheels (new tryes but same as last set and it did it with those too) Any one else had this problem? Any possible cures - I never had the problem with standard brakes. I wondered if grooved disks might solve it?
  4. Hi my fabia vrs is nearly due for its 30,000 mile service and is 3 years old in october. I'm confused as to exactly what service it needs doing and also I wonder if anyone can recommend anyone good in the Nottingham/Derby area?
  5. I note when upgrading alloys basic ideas are make sure they are light and well made and not too large. Though does anyone know the weight of vrs 16" OEM wheels. Also if we take identical make and model tyres one 205/45/16 another 205/40/17 is one lighter? :-)
  6. Any chance of persuading you for more than a one line comparison? :-) Does the car drive better with one than the other? Does one reduce roll and dive more? Are to konis too soft? hence smoother ride? sorry for all the questions but I have been trying to decide between these two kits for ages so any opinions greatly welcomed! :-)
  7. Minding my own business stationary caught in a lot of traffic off the M1 as it was closed due to accident. To my right traffic lights change articulated lorry see's that as an opportunity to barge forward, repeated horn warning , leant on horn still continues no where to go cars in front of me and behind up my tail pipe - cruch bye bye off side of fabia. It was only when I got out my car to shout at his cab that he looked over and realised what he had done. At least no one was hurt but really upset me as I was on my way down south to see my Dad for his birthday particulary as he has been quite unwell lately. The driver of the truck was unbelieviable despite the fact that he has driven into a stationary car on a R bout he tells it is not my fault you were in a blind spot - my view is if he has a blind spot that he can't check and can't be sure the road ahead is clear then he should not drive forward like a challenger 2 tank. My I hate lorries the government taxes the car owner the the hilt and winges about congestion - what about all these 36tonne 14litre lorries that go up and down the country delivering cheap ready meals to supermarkets loaded with sugar and salt leading to early onset diabetes and heart disease costing the nhs millions - how do we pay tax the car owner more! In my opinion we need to invest billions in a proper rail network and get the majority of these trucks off the road. I could go on but i'm clearly ranting cos i'm angry and my poor furby is proken for the second time thanks to yet another careless driver.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
  8. Hello just a little update! I took the brace back to the seat garage where it came from and tried it on an ibiza which it was also miles out on. One of the mechanics had a go at putting on my car and came to the conclusion that this brace was so far out the amount of bending needed might cause the weld to crack. The garage has been very helpful and are going to order another one to see if it is any better. It is a good 1cm plus too short i'm not impressed you'd think they'd make them all to a jig and then check the completed product! I reckon there is some guy who makes them in his shed in the back garden!! Oh well such is life. Here's to hoping the next one fits! :-)
  9. Well parked the car on the flat and no difference still does not fit! It worries me the front bumper on my car has never been a perfect fit from the showroom could my car have been front ended intransit? Or am I being overly paranoid? Should I just get on with it and bend the bar?
  10. Sorry no digi camera at the moment :-( I wonder if there are any chassis and/or bar measurements I could make to see if it is my car or the bar? surely the chassis is not so floppy that trying to fit the bar on a mildly uneven drive on a gradual slope would cause a problem?
  11. Hi currently in a spot of bother! bought myself a seat strut brace for me fabia vrs just been and bought myself a set of sockets and a torque wrentch to do the job. Lifted the solenoide thing out the way taken the suspension bolts out offered up the bar and the dam thing does not fit seems to be about seems to be around a 0.5-1cm short and twisted. car is parked on a mildly downward sloping drive at the moment. Is it something I am doing wrong? Is the bar naff? Or more worring is it my car that is twisted? Any ideas, thoughts would be greatly appreciated? Thanks peeps.
  12. Was just a standard looking civic old type R. I bet it is a lot more aerodynamic than the fabia as well! Maybe a nos system is the answer? :-) anyone got one of those?!!
  13. Well was driving home last night in my fab vrs (custom code phase 1, jabba RARB, 312mm) and had a play off the lights and beyond (up to the legal speed limit) with a Honda type R. It left me for dead to say the least very quick car, I wouldn't have expected my car to be quicker but was surprised just how much faster the type r was. Anyone on here got a fabia vrs that has been modded to a degree that it can take on a civic typeR. I'm curious to know the level required to make a fabia a type R killer - if it is possible at all that is!
  14. Are those KW standard style springs and shocks as opposed to coilovers? It is a very good value kit, much cheaper than FSD's/eilbach what do you think of them any chance of a mini review?
  15. Whats the cheapest place people have found to buy from? (I don't what to buy litres of the stuff) seems to be 11.99 everywhere i've seen it?
