    It does sound like the brake light switch either needs replacing or adjusting, ive heard sometimes this can cause limp mode symptoms as the ecu thinks the brake is on.
    also might be worth giving the maf a quick clean, cold weather means air is more dense if the ecu cant pick that up the engine might be running a bit rich and laggy.

    Its a common thing as mentioned.
    To get rid of it for now you can clean the intercooler out, which is advisable if you still have your egr pipe. As the oil from the crankcase mixes with any carbon deposits that get put back through the engine and you can get a nice thick clay like substance in botton of it. (There is a guide on the fabia-vrs site, which i think is only accesible from a link on here now.)
    Long term cure is oil catch tank or i think its the elephant mod which is mentioned a few times on here.
