  1. Need to replace the rear discs on my vrs, looking on the bay of E i see that there are Bora front discs of the right diameter much cheaper than the equivalent rear discs... Now call me stupid, but are the front discs totally different to the rear ones or could i buy a pair of bora front discs for my vrs rears?? Cheers in adavnce, Goose
  2. I bought a set of these discs and pads for the front of my VRS and am very pleased with them! Little dust, great stopping from cold, no better or worse than OE and at a fraction of the price. I, for one, am happy!! Goose
  3. Skoda sell their own marketed brand which i bought when i got the car, its more of a leather feed, but it leaves a lovely smell and softens the leather up a treat...not expensive either IIRC? Mines lasting ages! Goose
  4. The solution proved easier than i thought, so i'll post it in case anyone ever comes across the same problem. Using the old snapped connector i paired back the plastic coating to expose the wires and joined the 2 together entwining them, then encased it in insulating tape and tucked it out of the way. The light has gone out....tricked the bugger into thinking the wires are connected into the pads, logic said the light must come on when the connection gets broken..voila! HTH,Goose
  5. Coded out......now theres a thought! I presumed because it was mechanical it couldnt be coded. Now i guess ive gotta find someone who can help me out! Anyone local to me in or around Derby with the necessary knowledge and equipment?? Goose
  6. Having fitted a new set of Mintex discs and pads today on my 2001 VRS i noticed that there was a wire hanging loose on the n/s.....thinking nothing of it or that i'd snapped it i carried on fitting it all up then took the wire off at the connector and drove to the local dealers to run it all in and ask what the wire was! OK, now i know that it was the brake pad warning wire that had worn through off the old pads and the new set of pads ive been sent-and have fitted up and used ( ) are the wrong ones, as they didnt come with the wires attached.........:thumbdwn: Is there any way i can get the light off thats constantly on the dash? I have the old wire, just wondered if there was a way to trick the system rather than buy another set of pads?? Am sooooo annoyed, as the set up is spot on, didnt realise how bad my old ones were....or how worn they were till i took them off!! Am sat here black as a chimney sweep trying to fathom out how to remedy this.... Cheers, Goose
  7. Chip it............................... Goose
  8. it was when i was accelerating from 80 upwards in 5ht mainly, felt like the turbo was spinning but not delivering constant power, bit like being on a boat hitting waves, like a pulsing power.....does that meks sense? Why do you ask..you got it too? Goose
  9. Just for your info, took it to JBS today and after playing PS2 all day, finally got it sorted.....................N75 was faulty! At least thats where we are so far, got to give it some berries yet and find out if its cured, but the surging seems markedly improved on the way home down the M1...to much traffic to really try it out though. Can't fault the service from JBS, even to the point of excusing Jim for his tardiness!! He wants to spend some of the money he blows on motors on a watch!! Will post again if there's any interest! Goose
  10. OOPs! Yes i think you're right! Swap the N75 eh....not upgrade it, you think just try a different one? Thanks for that, will try find me a willing donor! Goose
  11. OK,here we are, I've tried all the obvious stuff...new MAF, code check, all to no avail. My octy vrs has an annoying habit of surging at 4-5k rpm, noticeable in 4th and majorly in 5th, feels like its on the sea, very weird! Mods are Forge 007, 4 bar boost, CAI kit and a stage 1 CC map. I've contacted JBS several times....to no avail, they have not returned my calls.....YET! Can't think what is causing it, use optimax all the time, all the usual stuff.Have trawled the threads, maybe someone on here has some ideas??? PLEASE!! Cheers,Goose
  12. Arrived, fitted...............no better!:thumbdwn: Now what?? It starts surging at 4k, worse in 4th and 5th, total pain in the proverbial...will scour the threads, but help if you can!! Goose
  13. I have upgraded everything bar the header unit in my octy vrs, but recently i have been driving along and the CD seems to stop, though it doesn't jump or skip, its like the speaker is momentarily unpugged, then it carries on as normal... Anyone had similar or know the solution? Gues its header out when i get chance, but was kind of hoping it might be a recognised problem?? Cheers,Goose
  14. Have ordered one off Stu's mate, will let you know how promptly it arrives and if it sorts my surging...fingers crossed! Thanks for all the replies guys, Goose
  15. After trying to clean it twice with limited results, i'm resigned to having to buy a new MAF for my vrs.Its got the AUQ lump and i have the part number for a new one, was just wondering if anyone could recommend a cheap online site to order one from before i give in and pay dealer prices..... Cheers,Goose
  16. I've just put p zeros on the front, bit slidey till they warm up, but then they offer better traction than the contis once theyre up to temperature, I'm well pleased so far.... Goose
  17. Right, i'm gonna put my thermals on and go sit in the car till it drops below 5 just to see!!!!.........what was the saying "i may be sometime..." Capt oakes, artic explorer!! Goose
  18. Neither my golf nor my octy have ever binged.....am i missing something?? Goose
  19. Took it apart, sprayed it thoroughly with Silkolene contact cleaner (what i had at hand, that or pledge!), put it back together, job's a good un.For now at least! Bring on that power, how i've missed you! Goose
  20. Having trawled through the MAF threads, i'm thinking mine might need to be cleaned or at worst replaced. Symptoms include intermittent acceleration, worse in the wet, kinda like its delaying itself....weird! Ticks over fine, no horrible noises or whatever, no missing like a wet lead etc, recent coil packs. Any other ideas? Been to my local Maplins, they don't have any IPA spray in, can anyone recommend me somewhere to buy some from online? Cheers,Goose
  21. Tell me more...I'm interested! Goose
  22. But the question is, how do you re-stick them back on?? Goose Or more to the point what can i cover the rear 2 holes with?
  23. Answers; 1. takes about 30 mins, if you go see John he should point you in the right direction, we fitted mine on his drive! You need to remove the airbox (durr!) and loosen the battery, removing the covers etc, then take the plastic bulb cover off the rear of the headlight . Fasten the filter to the pipe and attach the rubber centred bolt thingy through the unused hole in the plate with the earht cables attached to it next to the battery.Remove the black plastic covers off the tube to reveal the connecting parts. Pass the pipe down through the space so the filter sits in the space beneath the headlight/behind the bumper. Use the large bore blue pipe to connect it to the MAF, then push the small bore pipe onto the tube and using the alloy piece connect to the corrugated tube at the front of the engine. Use the jubilee clips, though there was one less than needed in my kit. Start the engine and listen to it purr!! 2;OOOOOOOOh yes!!! Scares old ladies (according to Beretta!!) HTH,Goose P.S John took some pics of it fitted to my car.
  24. But the guys only got 4 left......i tried to tell you all, but no-one was listening!! Mail him, his names John, 800bhp on ebay, tell him i sent you, you should get a good deal! I've got one of his short shift kits here too, he's lent it me to try....top geezer! Anyone got any hydraulic ramps i can borrow?? Goose
  25. Wasps....****, you know how it goes, I aint no paella eating seat owner for a reason!! :P Anyway, i'd never find it in a car park, far too common, my cars easy to find, head for the crowd of envious onlookers waiting to ask me for a go!! As for throttle body alignment, what does that involve? Is it something to tackle yourself or a dealer/mechanic type job? Just aboput to go change the plugs mind, see if that helps, bet the old ones are bo**xed after driving it round mis-firing! Goose P.S mine is sainsburys special super unleaded, not optimax...perhaps i'll try that, nearer payday though!!
