  1. Had a look over some new Superb's yesterday and have to say, overall, they are really very impressive cars. SE Business spec does seem to be the sweet spot of the range for max bang per buck. Personally, I prefer the alcantara seats over the higher trim level leather ones, prefer to have 17" alloys instead of the 18's on higher trim levels (on a car like this) but I'd miss the xenon headlamps. SE Business spec + xenons and Canton would probably be my ideal spec tbh.
  2. You do realise that your dynamic links in all of these 'used search' posts don't display for anyone, right?
  3. Id go with this view - only exception would be if you ran fully loaded the majority of the time... personally, i'm not convinced the smaller capacity blocks and blowers produce more efficient results than the bigger capacity units under these circumstances.
  4. but the Scout already has the same drivetrain; engine, gearbox and haldex setup. This is for someone that wants the sporty look of the VRS and not the utility look of the scout.
  5. I've driven the 280 in DSG form three times now and thought it was, overall, a superb hot hatch. The last one I drove however was the manual version and it really did make me feel like I was even more involved with what was going on - it peels back another layer of the experience, simply making it that little bit more fun and exciting. You need to weight up whether the gadgets or the manual interactivity are more important to you.
  6. maybe but you'd notice the 2k of additional equipment and the very effective VAQ diff.
  7. Couldn't agree more but according to Skoda, there's no market demand for a TSi version of this car!!!
  8. Cayman S pads also sweep the entire depth of the disk area. 286mm x12 currently so very similar ratio to what I'm now changing it to (standard fronts were 288mm). The Yeti is the heaviest car in the vw group that gets that setup iirc and to feel the rears doing more (which is my aim) they need to be bigger/more powerful. It's the perfect match front to rear given the vehicle weight according to DaveB at Vagbremtech and there's not too much he doesn't know about brakes, especially when related to VW group vehicles.
  9. iirc I had the Porsche setup put on around 21 - 23,000 miles and im now on 50,000. The disks have a very slight lip but I generally change pads and disks together when using uprated pads anyway.
  10. Cant recall the name (in German) but it was mentioned on here - think the person posting bought then via their german ebay shop. A search should find it.
  11. yes, I understood what you were saying so just intrigued how they came about the remark of being 10-15% 'better' Even Bilstein told me the B4's were OE spec and no better and they did not recomend them for being combined with lowering springs in any application. Main reason being the additional stress placed on them and they had to work outside of their specification. I learnt years ago, buy once and buy it right. I always pick up my Bilstein and Eibach kit from Germany, think both my B12 kit and B6 dampers were 35-40% cheaper than the cheapest prices over here earlier this year.
  12. Be interested to know the source of the 10-15% better statement and how do they quantify 'better'? I did loads of research before I bought the B6 and B8 dampers, including many conversations with Bilstein UK technical. Dept (very knowledgeable indeed) If you ever see the B4 front unit and a B6/8 unit stripped down you'll see a night and day difference in constriction and engineering so I'd consider the additional cost, money well spent, especially if being used with lowering springs.
  13. What a great morning for a bit of brake refurbishment! In readiness for fitting next Saturday I thought I'd give the rear calipers some new seals and a quick rub down and re spray. Three light coats later (and yet to do the final lacquer coats) but the results are really good IMO. At least they won't look out of place alongside the Porsche Calipers on the front, which still look like new. So next Saturday's todo list: Fit new Brembo disks and DS2500 Cayman S pads to the front. Fit these Audi S3 rear calipers + Pagid 310mm disks and pads. Change the fluid for fresh ATE fluid
  14. I don't usually comment if it's not positive... But those decals really aren't doing it for me!!
  15. agreed, I've installed it on my other car this year and it's brilliant. It's also interesting to compare these two setups on that car and the yeti. Imo both B6 and B8 dampers work really well with the Eibach springs - the B6's just affording that little more comfort when the going gets tough - either way, after many many aftermarket setups on my cars (from basic lowering springs and shocks to Bilstein PSS9's) I think the Eibach/Bilstein combos we are discussing here offer the best bang per buck. Id certainly not run Konis again when the Bilsteins are so able at their price point.
  16. Eibach lowering springs with B8 or B6 dampers would be my choice. I've had Koni FSD's and Bilsteins - Bilsteins are a far better damper imo. (Swapped the Konis off the Yeti after less than 1000 miles and love the B6 + Eibach spring combo that's been in there for around 4,000 miles now).
  17. Absolutely no contest to me, especially as you start your post with "I'm in the market for a hot hatch" ie not a fast family car etc. Cupra 290 all day long (but its actually more as it runs the full fat 300ps Golf R file according to the technical guys on SeatCupra.net) The 230 may have the diff but i'm led to believe that its more effective/aggressive when in Cupra mode on the Seat (which ive driven a number of times now and am really impressed with). Also, Im guessing you aren't talking about a UK market car with euros being mentioned - bucket seats and the sub8 performance pack are two very nice options to have but over here they are just that - options! If your market includes them as standard its well worth the 3k euros difference imo! The adaptive suspension on the Cupra is very very good also, better than many others ive used - it turns it into a Jekyl and Hyde car - very comfy even on the 19's - when you want it to be. I personally don't see what the fuss is about the LED lights. They look great as daytime running lights but I think my bi Xenon lamps on the Yeti were actually better on some familiar roads. Ultimately the only way id be going for the VRS 230 would be if I really needed the space and therefore was willing to compromise on the driving experience. Although saying that id be ordering the Cupra ST sub8 so an estate version anyway. And just to clarify. I havent driven a 230 specifically but I have driven a number of manual and DSG 220 VRS's and owned a mk2 VRS tuned to stage 2+. As a hot hatch the Cupra does it so much better imo
  18. Currently the only ones that we know are definetly affected are the US cars - 2009 to 2015 TDI Volkswagen Golf, Jetta, Beetle and Audi A3s, and the 2014 to 2015 Passat. European ones have been confirmed to be affected but afaik there's no definitive list of which vehicles are effected here, yet. From what I understand on the U.S. cars, when the ecu swapped over to test mode (automatically done due to the sensors and ecu working out its not actually being driven on the road, under load but under test conditions where the unloaded smoothness of the power is almost impossible to mimic) it did a number of things to reduce the nitrogen oxide levels of pollution. The biggest single change in this 'test mode' was achieved by using this onboard urea system to inject during the full test cycle.... All of the U.S. cars that have been confirmed as affected, use this system, so my assumption is that that's exactly how the euro versions have 'cheated' the test routine also. Therefore I would only be 'concerned' if I had an ad blue system installed in a four cylinder vw car aged between 2009-2015.

  20. The 2015 Tiguan will be running haldex 4 - which is what I have and never noticed this (and I reverse off our drive every day as you describe). The Octavia will be running a fifth gen setup - fairly different mechanically since the Americans bought it from the Swedes. Both capabale enough systems and shouldnt give the issue you have noticed. Question: Have you actually tried another identical Tiguan yourself?
  21. But the previous Yeti's without Adblue dont have any issues with false emission readings.... so im afraid the question still makes no sense?!
  22. yeah, I do see that and they are a business at the end of the day so playing with the big seller - the TDi - makes a lot of sense. Their arguement is that the awd works more effectively with the tdi lump and it adds ability and stability to the vehicle.... Which is surely why they have a Scout available already with the same engine and drivetrain! A TSi with awd gives them a performance flagship for the enthusiast. I'd buy one, as an estate, simple as.
  23. Having a rather interesting conversation with Skoda on Facebook currently as to why this should be made available as a TSi also.... They don't see the business case of having a performance flagship octy with awd and a petrol lump. :(
