  1. Correct for the radio bit that opens the doors, but the RFID tag which is used by the immobiliser system is passive and powered by an inductive loop. You do not have to press any buttons to read this. The paper that has been released shows it is relatively quick and easy to crack the encryption keys and bypass the system, but I would suggest your average thief is unlikely to have either the kit or the software necessary - at least for some time yet
  2. My winters went on yesterday. That should ensure the forecast cold weather doesn't arrive. It felt so wrong changing the wheels in 14 degrees and sunshine.
  3. You really need to check the length of your bikes. I have the Skoda internal bike carrier (remove front wheel, attach carrier to front fork), but the Yeti is short and you will have to put a bike in diagonally even with one seat removed, 2 bikes is even harder!
  4. Forget that its called a 1.2 and just remember it has 105 bhp and lots of torque for a small petrol engine - and get a test drive as mentioned above. You will be surprised how punchy it is. If you push it, the economy will suffer but from your description of use and mileage I wouldn't worry about that.
  5. I am with you on that. I had a Fabia and the aircon failed after a year, and now I have a Yeti and the aircon failed after 18 months. Apparently a leaking condenser which was replaced (under warranty so no complaints there), but it is now very noisy, so I am just awaiting the compressor disintegrating ! No problems with aircon in any other brands I have owned.
  6. Just recently had this mod done to mine. The car feels similar around town, but on the open road there seems to have a major performance drop. It feels less punchy - could be psychological but there is a long fast hill I regularly go up and had no problem climbing it in 6th before the mod. Now it is struggling to even maintain speed in 5th. More alarmingly my fuel economy has plummeted. Averaged just over 40mpg from new and typically on a longer run would get around 45mpg. Had a run yesterday, aircon off, light winds and driving gently and could not get it above 35mpg on the maxidot

    Wet Grip

Have to disagree with that. The speed limit has very little to do with the adhesion of the road or the conditions. It is very easy to lose control of a car well within most of the speed limits, and equally it is often possible to drive "safely" above the speed limits. I also think it is useful to sometimes explore the limits of your car where it is safe to do so. If you don't do this, you will never know where the limit of your car is or how it will behave when you reach it - you might actually be driving right on the border of those limits without realising it. Try getting a session on the local skid pan if you want to do this slowly and safely, it might make all the difference one day when you hit that patch of diesel on a wet road! For what its worth, I have the original Dunlops on and have no issues with them.
  8. None in my 2011 car when I got it, but I was left one when I got it serviced a couple of weeks ago.
  9. Yep, 1.2 Manual here and happy with it (and my last car was a 200+hp diesel) It isn't the fastest car in the world, but the 1.2 is more than adequate. First gear is very low which means that 1st to 2nd is a big step which takes a bit of getting used to, but the engine is very torquey and flexible. Typical motorway hills are no problem in 6th gear. Get a test drive.
  10. 8 to 12 inches is always going to be a struggle but this video is worth a look: The red and white ones are 2wd ones, the others are coping very well.
  11. My last BMW was £150 for 5 years/60000 miles worth of services (bought as a deal with the car)
  12. From your description I would say you have made the perfect choice. The 1.2 is not a racing machine by any stretch of the imagination, but with 105bhp and plenty of torque it is more than adequate. How many 1.6 and 1.8 engines were kicking out over 100bhp and the same torque a few years ago?
  13. Edit ignore - forum can't do foreign languages!
  14. Not normal, trip to the stealers required.
  15. That is reasonable though. Why should they remove them when they can see/access everything without doing so?
  16. Neither do airbags, side protection bars, seat-belts etc ..... until you need them. ESP shouldn't be doing anything at all unless the car is getting out of shape, but that is the very time you need it. I might not have it on my Yeti, but I am very much aware of the benefits. On a related note, I do wonder about all the people learning to drive with all of these wonderful aids. It is getting easier and easier to push a car towards its limit without getting any real feedback - of course once you exceed that limit, physics takes over ESP or not!
  17. VW Document here says no to Biodiesel in Yetis.
  18. None of those problems here (although I do have a badge with worms!)
  19. It is frightening how little some salespeople know about the cars they are selling. Regarding the ASR button, I have that and I have the 1.2TSi SE manual which doesn't have ESP.
  20. Are there any 3 year old Yetis in the country yet?
  21. Sorry Peter, I can predict with some certainty that there will be snow and ice in Liverpool over the next couple of weeks - I was going to leave mine on another couple of weeks but the car was squirming all over yesterday with 18 degrees, so I switched back to the Dunlops today - the car feels much better for it!
  22. There are 2 variants of the 1.4TSI engine - the twincharger which was top and the standard Turbo as fitted to the Yeti which was the 4th placed one in those awards.
  23. Average here is just over 40mpg and I am happy with that. What is noticeable with the 1.2 is that how you drive it makes a huge difference, it is easy to get under 30mpg over a journey with a heavy right foot, but equally in the right conditions its not difficult to get 50mpg. My minimum between full tanks has been 37.7 and maximum 43.5, all figures measured but the maxidot only marginally over-reads.
