  1. Got it in the garage again, I have my fingers and toes crossed its just the battery but could do with getting the alternator checked, however the AA guy was out again today and he was saying the (alternator level was 13.7 I think (Is that correct, I know nothing about cars)) so I am hoping the battery is just knackered and needs a new one.
  2. Hello everyone, looking for some help if at all possible. Popped into the shops for a few minutes earlier and came out and the car wouldnt start, phoned the AA and he came out and said that the alternator is not holding a charge, and sitting at 12 volts? (i might be wrong) I've looked online and on here and am going to buy one however need to know the part number, the only one I can find is the part number 030903023j, but unsure of purchasing it without some advice. Car is a SKODA OCTAVIA CLASIC TDI 5 DOOR HATCHBACK 1896cc (2005) DIESEL
  3. Hey folks, my rear window is heated by the instrument in the middle of my dashboard? I think? However there is 2 of them? Is one the rear demister and one the heater? Honestly I'm clueless!! Car is an 05 Octavia classic
  4. Update: We got the handbreak bit off and there was 2 cables, 1 shorter than the other, and they hadnt snapped, just came off the silver clip? Bit of fiddling about and they are back on, albeit a bit tighter than before? Strange
  5. Hello again my fellow Skoda fans, have a bit of a problem? Just this morning, when parking up, I realised my handbrake was...(what can you call it)...KNACKERED! I pushed in the button, liften the handbrake to the top and nothing happened, well, the handbrake itself rose to an incredible angle, one which ive never seen before, it was practically pointing at the ceiling. Anyway, when I lift it without the button pushed in (Just to see if it works that way), it still makes the 'clicking' noise, but its almost like it doesnt 'grip'. Now as you will all know from my previous posts, my car knowledge is awful, in fact its non-existant. So any help is greatly appreciated. Does it appear to be a new handbrake I'll need? Or is it needing tightened? Perhaps a cable snapped? Are the above 3 expensive repair jobs?
  6. What a total tit I am. It was the plastic bitty under the steering wheel. Catching on the clutch as it was depressed
  7. Hi folks, me again with my problems.... Any help I would be really grateful. Currently when de-pressing the clutch, about half way it 'clicks' It's not loud, but I can feel it through my feet, my car knowledge is poor, so is this an indication the clutch is on it's last legs?
  8. Hi Mountie, thankyou, thats exactly what I was looking for, any other things I might need?
  9. Hey guys was looking at getting a new cd player for the octavia? My link Like this? Will it fit?
  10. Just had a look a few minutes a go, looks like there is 2 'slits' about a butter knifes width? Do I just put something in them and pop the cd player out? Then if I was to get a cd player say from halfords? Cd player is it just pretty much plugging the new one in? Thanks again?
  11. Recently I put here that I was likely to buy an 05 plate Skoda Octavia, and thanks to your advice purchased it today. However, it comes with relatively boring tape/radio as standard, is it very easy to remove? And just put another cd player in from say Halfords? Not had a long chance to look at that so was just looking for some advice before I have a proper look tomorrow. Once again, if I am int he wrong section MODS, please move.
  12. Sorry again, really should have said, got the full service history, granted I havent seen it. To be honest, not really looking for something great to look at if im honest, if it gets me from a to b and the miles isnt a problem, just a bit worried about the miles. Thanks for the quick replies mate, appreciate it
  13. Thanks mate, as far as the miles are concerned, is this a problem?
  14. Hi, yeah its an 05 plate, however when I put in on an insurance quote it came up with them details, 100% its an 05 plate Skoda Octavia, asking for £1500
  15. Sorry folks, not sure if this is in the right section, if not could a moderator move it to the correct section? Anyway, hi, my name is Barry and have recently been offered a SKODA OCTAVIA 2003-2004 Diesel 1.9L Manual 5 doors CLASSIC TDI. Its an ex-taxi, a 55 plate, and has done slightly over 190,000 miles, and owned by my father in law. It has had 2 owners, he has owned it for 3 years with no MAJOR faults. Although I have driven a skoda before, my last car was a Renault Megane and got robbed, so treading very carefully. My worry is the miles, it certainly appears to be a lot of miles for a car relatively young, taxi or not, not sure if I should go for it or not? To be fair, it is in MINT condition, like I said, just worried about the miles
