  1. Hi Nick, I'm in Buxton if you'd like another car to measure and add to you stats...... Cheers )
  2. Yeah, the skoda would be going backwards....... up the hill!!;o) (provided the driver knew what they were doing???!!)
  3. If it's part numbers you're after try Brakeworld. Importers and distributors of automotive brakes & filters. Their online catalogue it abundant with info on braking products. You can find out most of the dimesions of the discs and the caliper's piston diameter if you so wish!!! They also have 99% of part numbers on there. A bit of time spent looking and you can find out what other cars have the same brakes fitted too!!!! I believe they're quite reasonable on price.......
  4. Hey Skud, looks cool!!!! I get bored like that on occasion too, but never actually get as fer as welding stuff to my car!!!! I normally get to the thinking part and then give up and put the telly on.... Top marks for industriousness!! :D
  5. Hmmmmmmm, you say "supposed"......... Does this actually work?? or just fill your electrical connectors up with silicone grease????? Any chance this could have a negative effect?? (sorry just playing devils advocate here - purely for peace of mind though!!!)
  6. Yes, lovely scenery, except for the noisy aircraft overhead!!!! (thats a local thing to Curbridge though!) But being an aircraft engineer it kinda comes with the territory.......
  7. That's exactly the nail on the head........ otherwise we'd all be driving 1000bhp cars that you can drive down the shops (like Miss Daisy) but still quite happily take to the Nurbugring and thrash around all day doing sub 6min laps with no probs whatsoever....... (and as you know, no car exists..... yet!!!!!) So it's where the average driver draws the boundaries of their own compromise between practicality/performance/cost-to-buy/cost-to-run etc etc. ........ so, rear ARB, seat bushes and better tyres are where to start then??!!!!!
  8. A very good album!!!! A nice mix of recent stuff....... I have this and have it playing often on my commute to work
  9. I have no idea about the fabia specific one but motorcycle luggage nets (bungee style) can be had for less than a fiver from any good bike shop. Should stretch far enough to go accross the boot on the hooks, but if not, i'm sure you could secure everything to one side easily...... Worth a try??!!!!
  10. Go for the most expensive tyres you can afford!!! Cheap/budget tyres will have had corners cut to make them cheaper to produce..... A budget Sport tyre after 10k miles (approx 1year on the car)..... I've also had Kumho's do something very similar. The reinforcing braid inside the tread stops short of the shoulder inside the tyre. Due to the cyclic loading of any specific point of the tyre, during normal use the braiding wears away at the rubber from the inside out and then your tyre splits!!!!!!!! I had this happened on my old car, and a friend has had it happen recently on his E30 335i (not a typo, an engine conversion!!!) I now have Pzero Nero's on the front of mine and they're excellent! I will NEVER use budget tyres again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Or do it just before you're gonna hoover the car anyway.....
  12. Looks lovely mate ) Grey Gables..... Is that in Curbridge?? They used to be my local dealer, til my job moved to Norfolk..... I miss Oxfordshire (sigh).....
  13. I rarely, if ever, listen to the radio in my car!!!! Most stations irritate me in some way.... [rant] usually the tw*ts they've employed to massage their own egos for the "enjoyment" (more like endurement) of others!! [rant/] I have noticed the aerial on my vRS looking a bit "limp" of late. Might have to get one of those.... unless you wanna swap for a "limp" standard item......??
  14. Does anyone know why Seat Sugeons DON'T do different material centre panels?? How much more difficult is it to use a different fabric and stich it to leather? I'd have got a re-trim ages ago if they did. I just don't like the idea of burned or frozen legs and back - depending on the season of course!!!
  15. Mostly, Prodigy - Experience, Fat of the land, Music for the gilted generation, Always out numbered never out gunned. Faithless - Reverence, Sunday 8pm, Outrospective. Morcheeba - Big Calm (for relaxing) Also Sneaker pimps, Madonna, Coldplay, The Eels, some old skool stuff etc etc But most recently Pendulum - Hold Your Colour (i'm in the process of fitting a "Bass enhancement device" that i started making last year but never got round to installing. A bespoke thing designed to allow access to the spare wheel and the larger half ot the split/fold rear seat to operate unhindered!!) Pics to follow....... (in a couple of days......)
  16. Thanks ) I've tried again but still loads of totally unrelated threads, quite a few mentioning the grease but nothing explaining exactly what to do??!! Or i get annoyed and skim read far too quickly...... Anyway, thanks again )
  17. The only way i could explain a difference is that the temp of the fuel might have a slight effect on the level sensor. The expceted thing would be it showing less in the morning because the fuel has had time to cool down and contract. This would be exacerbated by the way the fuel system works aswell (circulating unused fuel from the engine bay back to the tank, hance a lot of threads about the fuel cooler mounted underneath the car). BUT, this flies in the face of your claims of the gauge showing MORE fuel in the morning rather than less....... You have a magic car that makes fuel as it drives!!! Can i buy it off you??!! Hehehe )
  18. I disagree!!!! I've spent the last half hour looking through the threads that "search" has thrown at me. I tried using quotation marks too, but i'm still none the wiser about this "cage mod". I've read quite a lot about roll cages now and plenty about various other mods that people have done but nothing about the item in question. So..... Can anyone shed some light and explain exactly what it does??
  19. Anyone know how the fuel tank sender unit works?? Does it have any mechanical parts? Like a float on a hinged lever?? Does it do clever things with capacitence units and very low current electricity?? Or does it use a completely different method?? I ask because temperature can effect things in very different ways with either method of measuring fluid levels inside a vessel. Aircraft commonly use the capacitence method and it is not unknown for the discrepancy between the delivery gauge and the aircraft gauge to be as much as 10%!!!!!! Also, taking a gauge reading right after refuelling and another the morning after, they can differ immensely (by the way Jet A1 is basically diesel - I know of people who run their cars on the stuff!!!!!!)
  20. Wtfffffff!!!!!!! Why would you purposely make your turbo stick out through the bonnet??!!! I kinda like the spoiler (but it is a WRC replica...... So of course i would ) And the rear window vents.....
  21. I would say a diamond cut edge too, but spokes would get in the way of the cutter. With that done the wheels would look huge AND bling!!! (but not too bling )
  22. Can't remember who, but someone on here has compared them to Nail Varnish. Look pretty but prevent you form doing anything practical (under the bonnet because it gets in the way).
